1 P ablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo, conforme a la fe de los escogidos de Dios y el conocimiento pleno de la verdad que es según la piedad,

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2 a base de la esperanza en la vida eterna, la cual Dios, que no miente, prometió desde antes de los tiempos eternos,

in hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3 y a su debido tiempo manifestó su palabra por la predicación que me fue encomendada conforme al mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador,

but hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4 a Tito, verdadero hijo según la fe común: Gracia, misericordia y paz, de parte de Dios Padre y del Señor Jesucristo nuestro Salvador. Requisitos de ancianos y obispos

to Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5 P or esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que acabases de poner en orden lo que faltaba, y constituyeses ancianos en cada ciudad, como yo te ordené;

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6 e l que sea irreprensible, marido de una sola mujer, y tenga hijos creyentes, que no estén acusados de disolución ni de rebeldía.

if any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7 P orque el obispo debe ser irreprensible, como administrador de Dios; no arrogante, no iracundo, no dado al vino, no pendenciero, no codicioso de ganancias deshonestas,

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8 s ino hospedador, amante de lo bueno, sensato, justo, santo, dueño de sí mismo,

but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9 r etenedor de la palabra fiel tal como ha sido enseñada, para que también pueda exhortar con sana doctrina y redargüir a los que contradicen.

holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10 P orque hay aún muchos rebeldes, habladores de vanidades y engañadores, especialmente los de la circuncisión,

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11 a los cuales es preciso tapar la boca; que trastornan casas enteras, enseñando por ganancia deshonesta lo que no deben.

whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

12 U no de ellos, su propio profeta, dijo: Los cretenses son siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, glotones, ociosos.

One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13 E ste testimonio es verdadero; por lo cual, repréndelos duramente, para que sean sanos en la fe,

This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14 n o atendiendo a fábulas judaicas, ni a mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.

not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15 T odas las cosas son puras para los puros, mas para los contaminados e incrédulos nada es puro; pues hasta su mente y su conciencia están contaminadas.

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16 P rofesan conocer a Dios, pero con los hechos lo niegan, siendo abominables y desobedientes, descalificados en cuanto a toda buena obra.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
