1 Y o, Pablo, siervo de Dios y apóstol de Jesucristo, según la fe de los escogidos de Dios y el conocimiento de la verdad que corresponde a la piedad,

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2 e n la esperanza de la vida eterna, la cual Dios, que no miente, prometió desde antes del principio de los siglos,

in hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3 y a su debido tiempo manifestó su palabra por medio de la predicación que me fue encomendada por mandato de Dios nuestro Salvador,

but hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

4 a Tito, verdadero hijo en nuestra fe común: Recibe gracia, misericordia y paz, de Dios el Padre y del Señor Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador. Requisitos de ancianos y obispos

to Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5 P or esto te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieras lo deficiente y establecieras ancianos en cada ciudad, tal y como yo te mandé:

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6 a ncianos irreprensibles, maridos de una sola mujer y con hijos creyentes, que no estén acusados de disolución ni de rebeldía.

if any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7 P orque es necesario que el obispo, como administrador de Dios, sea irreprensible, no soberbio ni iracundo, ni afecto al vino, ni pendenciero, ni codicioso de ganancias deshonestas,

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8 s ino hospitalario, amante de lo bueno, sobrio, justo, santo, dueño de sí mismo,

but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9 a pegado a la palabra fiel, tal y como ha sido enseñada, para que también pueda exhortar con sana enseñanza y convencer a los que contradicen.

holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

10 P orque aún hay muchos rebeldes, que hablan de vanidades y de engaños, especialmente los de la circuncisión,

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

11 a los cuales es preciso tapar la boca. Éstos trastornan casas enteras, y a cambio de ganancias deshonestas enseñan lo que no conviene.

whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

12 U no de ellos, que es su propio profeta, dijo: «Los cretenses son siempre mentirosos, malas bestias y glotones ociosos.»

One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

13 É ste es un testimonio verdadero; así que repréndelos duramente, para que sean sanos en la fe

This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

14 y no atiendan a fábulas judaicas, ni a mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.

not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

15 P ara los puros, todas las cosas son puras; pero para los corruptos e incrédulos nada es puro, pues hasta su mente y su conciencia están corrompidas;

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

16 d icen conocer a Dios, pero con los hechos lo niegan, pues son odiosos y rebeldes, reprobables en cuanto a toda buena obra.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
