1 C uando David ya era viejo y tenía muchos años, declaró a su hijo Salomón rey de Israel.

So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 A demás, juntó a todos los jefes de Israel y a los sacerdotes y levitas,

And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 c ontando a los levitas mayores de treinta años, y el número total de ellos, contados uno por uno, resultó ser de treinta y ocho mil.

Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.

4 D e éstos, veinticuatro mil debían dirigir la obra de la casa del Señor, y seis mil fungirían como gobernadores y jueces;

Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the Lord; and six thousand were officers and judges:

5 c uatro mil serían porteros, y los cuatro mil restantes se dedicarían a alabar al Señor con los instrumentos que David había hecho para tributar alabanzas.

moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

6 D avid los repartió en grupos, siguiendo el orden de los hijos de Leví, es decir, de Gersón, Coat y Merari.

And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 L os hijos de Gersón fueron Laadán y Simey.

Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.

8 L os hijos de Laadán fueron tres: Yejiel, el primero, seguido de Zetán y Joel.

The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 L os hijos de Simey fueron tres: Selomit, Jaziel y Harán. Éstos fueron los jefes de las familias de Laadán.

The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan.

10 Y los hijos de Simey fueron Yajat, Zina, Jeús y Beria. Estos cuatro fueron los hijos de Simey.

And the sons of Shimei were, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 Y ajat fue el primero, y Zina el segundo; pero Jeús y Beria no tuvieron muchos hijos, así que fueron contados como una sola familia.

And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house.

12 L os hijos de Coat fueron cuatro: Amirán, Isar, Hebrón y Uziel.

The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 L os hijos de Amirán fueron Aarón y Moisés. Aarón fue apartado, junto con sus hijos, para dedicarse siempre a las cosas más santas, para quemar incienso delante del Señor, y para servirle y bendecir en su nombre siempre.

The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.

14 L os hijos de Moisés, hombre de Dios, fueron contados en la tribu de Leví,

Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.

15 y fueron Gersón y Eliezer.

The sons of Moses were, Gershom, and Eliezer.

16 E l hijo de Gersón fue el jefe Sebuel.

Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief.

17 E l hijo de Eliezer fue el jefe Rejabías. Eliezer no tuvo otros hijos, pero Rejabías si tuvo muchos hijos.

And the sons of Eliezer were, Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 E l hijo de Isar fue el jefe Selomit.

Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.

19 L os hijos de Hebrón fueron el jefe Jerías, seguido de Amarías, Jahaziel y Jecamán.

Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 L os hijos de Uziel fueron el jefe Micaía, seguido de Isías.

Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah the first, and Jesiah the second.

21 L os hijos de Merari fueron Mali y Musi. Los hijos de Mali fueron Eleazar y Cis.

The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.

22 E leazar murió sin haber tenido hijos, pero tuvo hijas, y sus parientes, los hijos de Cis, las tomaron por mujeres.

And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.

23 L os hijos de Musi fueron tres: Mali, Edar y Jeremot.

The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 É stos fueron los descendientes de Leví por las familias de sus padres. Según el censo, eran jefes de familia, mayores de veinte años, cada uno contado por nombre, y todos ellos trabajaban en el ministerio de la casa del Señor.

These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of twenty years and upward.

25 Y es que David dijo: «El Señor, el Dios de Israel, ha dado paz a su pueblo, y habitará en Jerusalén para siempre.

For David said, The Lord God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:

26 L os levitas no tendrán que volver a cargar el tabernáculo y todos los utensilios para su ministerio.»

and also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

27 F ue así como, de acuerdo con las últimas palabras de David, se hizo la cuenta de los hijos de Leví mayores de veinte años.

For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above:

28 T odos ellos estaban bajo las órdenes de los hijos de Aarón para ministrar en la casa del Señor, en los atrios, en las cámaras, y en la purificación de todo objeto santificado, lo mismo que en la obra restante del ministerio de la casa de Dios,

because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

29 y para los panes de la proposición, para la flor de harina para el sacrificio, para las hojuelas sin levadura, para lo preparado en sartén, para lo tostado, para toda medida y cuenta,

both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;

30 y para asistir todos los días por la mañana y por la tarde para dar gracias y tributar alabanzas al Señor,

and to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord, and likewise at even;

31 y para ofrecer delante del Señor, continuamente, todos los holocaustos en los días de reposo, y en las lunas nuevas y fiestas solemnes, según su número y de acuerdo con su rito,

and to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the Lord in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the Lord:

32 y para que en el ministerio de la casa del Señor estuvieran a cargo del tabernáculo de reunión y del santuario, bajo las órdenes de sus hermanos, los hijos de Aarón.

and that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the Lord.
