O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.

2 T e llevaría a la casa de mi madre, y allí tú serías mi maestro. Yo te daría a beber de mi vino y del jugo de mis granadas.

I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

3 ¡ Cómo anhelo que mi cabeza repose sobre tu brazo izquierdo, y que tu brazo derecho me abrace!

His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

4 D oncellas de Jerusalén, yo les ruego, que no despierten a mi amada, ¡que no interrumpan su sueño, mientras ella se complazca en dormir! El poder del amor

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

5 ¿ Quién es ésta, que por el desierto viene recostada en el hombro de su amado? Bajo un manzano te desperté; Fue allí donde tu madre tuvo dolores y te dio a luz.

Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

6 P onme como un sello sobre tu corazón; ponme como una marca sobre tu brazo. Inquebrantable como la muerte es el amor; inflexibles como el sepulcro son los celos. ¡Candentes brasas son, candente fuego!

Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

7 L as muchas aguas no pueden apagar el amor, ni pueden tampoco sofocarlo los ríos. Si por el amor diera el hombre todos los bienes de su casa, ciertamente sería despreciado.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

8 N uestra hermanita no tiene pechos. ¿Qué podremos hacer por nuestra hermana cuando la pidan en matrimonio?

We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

9 S i se tratara de una muralla, levantaríamos sobre ella un palacio de plata; si se tratara de una puerta, la recubriríamos con tablones de cedro.

If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

10 ¡ Yo soy una muralla, y mis pechos son dos torres, desde el día en que a sus ojos fui como quien ha hallado la paz.

I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.

11 S alomón tenía en Baal Gamón, una viña al cuidado de aparceros. Cada uno de ellos debía entregarle mil monedas de plata por cosecha.

Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.

12 ¡ Pero yo tengo mi propia viña, y a mi viña la cuido yo! ¡Quédate, Salomón, con las mil monedas, y quédense los aparceros con doscientas!

My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

13 T ú, que habitas en los jardines, ¡hazme oír tu voz! ¡También mis amigos quieren escucharla!

Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

14 ¡ Date prisa, amado mío! ¡Corre como un corzo, como un cervato que va por los montes aromáticos!

Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
