1 E l anciano, a la señora elegida y a sus hijos, a quienes amo en la verdad; y no sólo yo, sino también todos los que han conocido la verdad,

The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

2 a causa de la verdad que permanece en nosotros, y que estará para siempre con nosotros:

for the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

3 Q ue la gracia, la misericordia y la paz de Dios Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, sean con ustedes en verdad y en amor. Permanezcan en la doctrina de Cristo

Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 G ran regocijo me ha causado el hallar a algunos de tus hijos andando en la verdad y conforme al mandamiento que recibimos del Padre.

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 A hora, señora, te ruego que nos amemos unos a otros. Pero no como si te escribiera un nuevo mandamiento, sino el que hemos tenido desde el principio.

And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 É ste es el amor: que andemos según sus mandamientos. Y éste es el mandamiento: que ustedes anden en amor, como desde el principio lo han oído.

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

7 P orque muchos engañadores han salido por el mundo, los cuales no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. Éstos son engañadores, son el anticristo.

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 T engan cuidado de no perder el fruto de su trabajo, a fin de que reciban el galardón completo.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9 C ualquiera que se extravía, y que no persevera en la enseñanza de Cristo, no tiene a Dios, pero el que persevera en la enseñanza de Cristo sí tiene al Padre y al Hijo.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 S i alguno se les acerca, y no trae esta doctrina, no lo reciban en su casa, y ni siquiera le deseen que tenga paz.

If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 P orque quien le desea la paz participa en sus malas obras. Espero ir a ustedes

for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

12 T engo muchas otras cosas que escribirles, pero no he querido hacerlo por medio de papel y tinta, pues espero ir a verlos y hablarles cara a cara, para que nuestro gozo sea completo.

Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13 L os hijos de tu hermana, la elegida, te saludan. Amén.

The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
