1 Y llegaron al otro lado del mar, a la región de los gadarenos.

And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 Y en cuanto desembarcó, en seguida le salió al encuentro, de entre los sepulcros, un hombre poseído de un espíritu inmundo,

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3 q ue tenía su morada entre los sepulcros, y ya nadie podía atarle ni con cadenas,

who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4 p orque le habían atado muchas veces con grilletes y cadenas, pero él había roto las cadenas y destrozado los grilletes, y nadie tenía fuerza para dominarle.

because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5 Y continuamente, de noche y de día, andaba entre los sepulcros y por los montes, dando gritos y cortándose con piedras.

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6 A l ver de lejos a Jesús, corrió y se postró ante él,

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7 y gritando con gran voz, le dice: ¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? Te conjuro por Dios que no me atormentes.

and cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 P orque le decía: Sal del hombre, espíritu inmundo.

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 Y le preguntaba: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él le dice: Mi nombre es legión, porque somos muchos.

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10 Y le suplicaba con insistencia que no los enviara fuera de la región.

And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 H abía allí en la ladera del monte una gran piara de cerdos paciendo;

Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12 y le rogaron los demonios diciendo: Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos.

And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 É l les dio permiso. Y los espíritus inmundos, saliendo, entraron en los cerdos; y la piara, unos dos mil, corrió a precipitarse por el acantilado al mar, y se ahogaron en el mar.

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

14 L os que los apacentaban huyeron a contarlo en la ciudad y por los campos; y vinieron a ver qué era lo que había sucedido.

And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15 L legan adonde estaba Jesús, y se quedan contemplando al endemoniado, sentado, vestido, y en su sano juicio, al mismo que había tenido la legión, y les entró miedo.

And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16 Y los que lo habían visto les refirieron cómo le había ocurrido aquello al endemoniado, y lo de los cerdos.

And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17 E ntonces comenzaron a rogarle que se alejara de los confines de ellos.

And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

18 A l entrar en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que le dejara quedarse con él.

And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

19 P ero no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo: Vete a tu casa, adonde los tuyos, y cuéntales todo cuanto el Señor ha hecho por ti, y cómo tuvo compasión de ti.

Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

20 É l se fue, y comenzó a proclamar en Decápolis cuanto había hecho Jesús por él; y todos se admiraban. La hija de Jairo, y la mujer que tocó el manto de Jesucristo

And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

21 J esús pasó de nuevo en la barca a la otra orilla, y se aglomeró junto a él una gran multitud; y él estaba junto al mar.

And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22 E n esto, llega uno de los dirigentes de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo, y al verle, cae ante sus pies,

And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 y le suplica con insistencia, diciendo: Mi hijita está a punto de morir; ven a poner las manos sobre ella para que se cure y viva.

and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24 Y se fue con él. Le seguía una gran multitud, y le apretujaban.

And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25 E n esto, una mujer que padecía de continuas hemorragias desde hacía doce años,

And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 q ue había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todos sus bienes sin provecho alguno, sino que, por el contrario, había empeorado,

and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 a l oír hablar de Jesús, se acercó entre el gentío por detrás, y tocó su manto.

when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 P orque decía: Si toco aunque sólo sea su manto, seré curada.

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 I nmediatamente cesó su hemorragia, y sintió en su cuerpo que había quedado curada de su aflicción.

And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 A l instante, Jesús, percatándose en su interior de que había salido de él un poder, se dio la vuelta entre el gentío, y decía: ¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos?

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 S us discípulos le decían: Estás viendo que la multitud te apretuja, y dices: ¿Quién me ha tocado?

And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 P ero él continuaba mirando en torno suyo para ver a la que lo había hecho.

And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 E ntonces, la mujer, temerosa y temblando, sabiendo lo que le había ocurrido, vino hacia él, y echándose a sus pies, le dijo toda la verdad.

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 Y él le dijo: Hija, tu fe te ha sanado; vete en paz, y queda sana de tu aflicción.

And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

35 T odavía estaba él hablando, cuando de casa del dirigente de la sinagoga llegan unos diciendo: Tu hija ha muerto; ¿por qué molestas aún al Maestro?

While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 P ero Jesús, no haciendo caso de lo que se hablaba, le dice al dirigente de la sinagoga: No temas, cree solamente.

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 Y no permitió que nadie le acompañase, excepto Pedro, Jacobo y Juan el hermano de Jacobo.

And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 L legan a la casa del dirigente de la sinagoga, y allí observa el alboroto, y a los que lloraban y daban grandes alaridos;

And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39 y entrando, les dice: ¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no está muerta, sino que duerme.

And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40 Y se reían de él. Pero él, después de echar fuera a todos, toma consigo al padre de la niña y a la madre, y a los que estaban con él, y entra adonde estaba la niña.

And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41 Y tomando la mano de la niña, le dice: Talitá cumi, que traducido significa: Muchacha, a ti te digo, levántate.

And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 Y en seguida se levantó la muchacha, y se puso a caminar, pues tenía doce años. Al instante, quedaron fuera de sí, llenos de asombro.

And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 É l les dio órdenes estrictas de que nadie se enterara de esto, y dijo que le dieran a la niña algo de comer.

And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
