1 V inieron al otro lado del mar, a la región de los gadarenos.

And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 C uando salió él de la barca, en seguida vino a su encuentro, de los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu impuro

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

3 q ue habitaba en los sepulcros y nadie podía atarlo, ni aun con cadenas.

who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

4 M uchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, pero las cadenas habían sido hechas pedazos por él, y desmenuzados los grillos. Nadie lo podía dominar.

because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

5 Y siempre, de día y de noche, andaba gritando en los montes y en los sepulcros, e hiriéndose con piedras.

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

6 C uando vio, pues, a Jesús de lejos, corrió y se arrodilló ante él.

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

7 Y clamando a gran voz, dijo: —¿Qué tienes conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Te conjuro por Dios que no me atormentes!

and cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 ( Porque le decía: «Sal de este hombre, espíritu impuro.»)

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 J esús le preguntó: —¿Cómo te llamas? Y respondió diciendo: —Legión me llamo, porque somos muchos.

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

10 Y le rogaba mucho que no los enviara fuera de aquella región.

And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 E staba allí cerca del monte un gran hato de cerdos paciendo.

Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

12 Y le rogaron todos los demonios, diciendo: —Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos.

And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 J esús, de inmediato, les dio permiso. Y saliendo aquellos espíritus impuros, entraron en los cerdos, los cuales eran como dos mil. El hato se precipitó al mar por un despeñadero, y en el mar se ahogaron.

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

14 L os que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron y dieron aviso en la ciudad y en los campos. Y la gente salió a ver qué era aquello que había sucedido.

And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

15 L legaron a Jesús y vieron al que había estado atormentado por el demonio, el que había tenido la legión, sentado, vestido y en su juicio cabal; y tuvieron miedo.

And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

16 Y los que lo habían visto les contaron lo que le había acontecido al que había tenido el demonio, y lo de los cerdos.

And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

17 E ntonces comenzaron a rogarle que se fuera de sus contornos.

And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

18 A l entrar él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que lo dejara quedarse con él.

And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

19 P ero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo: —Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas el Señor ha hecho contigo y cómo ha tenido misericordia de ti.

Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

20 É l se fue y comenzó a publicar en Decápolis cuán grandes cosas había hecho Jesús con él; y todos se maravillaban. La hija de Jairo, y la mujer con flujo de sangre

And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

21 A l pasar otra vez Jesús en una barca a la otra orilla, se reunió a su alrededor una gran multitud; y él estaba junto al mar.

And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

22 Y vino un alto dignatario de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo. Al verlo, se postró a sus pies,

And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 y le rogaba mucho, diciendo: —Mi hija está agonizando; ven y pon las manos sobre ella para que sea salva, y viva.

and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

24 F ue, pues, con él, y lo seguía una gran multitud, y lo apretaban.

And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

25 P ero una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía de flujo de sangre,

And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

26 y había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía y de nada le había servido, antes le iba peor,

and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

27 c uando oyó hablar de Jesús se acercó por detrás entre la multitud y tocó su manto,

when she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

28 p orque decía: «Si toco tan sólo su manto, seré salva.»

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

29 I nmediatamente la fuente de su sangre se secó, y sintió en el cuerpo que estaba sana de su azote.

And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 L uego Jesús, conociendo en sí mismo el poder que había salido de él, volviéndose a la multitud, preguntó: —¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos?

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 S us discípulos le dijeron: —Ves que la multitud te aprieta, y preguntas: “¿Quién me ha tocado?”

And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 P ero él miraba alrededor para ver quién lo había hecho.

And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 E ntonces la mujer, temiendo y temblando, sabiendo lo que en ella había sido hecho, vino y se postró delante de él y le dijo toda la verdad.

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 É l le dijo: —Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz y queda sana de tu enfermedad.

And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

35 M ientras él aún hablaba, vinieron de casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, diciendo: —Tu hija ha muerto, ¿para qué molestas más al Maestro?

While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 P ero Jesús, luego que oyó lo que se decía, dijo al alto dignatario de la sinagoga: —No temas, cree solamente.

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 Y no permitió que lo siguiera nadie sino Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, hermano de Jacobo.

And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 V ino a casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, y vio el alboroto y a los que lloraban y lamentaban mucho.

And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39 E ntró y les dijo: —¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.

And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

40 Y se burlaban de él. Pero él, echando fuera a todos, tomó al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con él, y entró donde estaba la niña.

And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

41 T omó la mano de la niña y le dijo: —¡Talita cumi! (que significa: “Niña, a ti te digo, levántate”).

And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 I nmediatamente la niña se levantó y andaba, pues tenía doce años. Y la gente se llenó de asombro.

And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 P ero él les insistió en que nadie lo supiera, y dijo que dieran de comer a la niña.

And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
