1 R espondió entonces Job y dijo:

Then Job answered and said,

2 « ¿Hasta cuándo angustiaréis mi alma y me moleréis con palabras?

How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

3 Y a me habéis insultado diez veces, ¿no os avergonzáis de injuriarme?

These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.

4 A un siendo verdad que yo haya errado, sobre mí recaería mi error.

And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

5 P ero si vosotros os jactáis contra mí, y contra mí alegáis mi oprobio,

If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

6 s abed ahora que Dios me ha derribado, y me ha atrapado en su red.

know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.

7 Y o grito: “¡Agravio!”, pero no se me oye; doy voces, pero no se me hace justicia.

Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

8 D ios ha cercado con valla mi camino y no puedo pasar; y sobre mis veredas ha tendido tinieblas.

He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

9 M e ha despojado de mi gloria y ha quitado la corona de mi cabeza.

He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

10 P or todos lados me ha arruinado, y perezco; ha hecho que pase mi esperanza como un árbol arrancado.

He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

11 H ace arder contra mí su furor y me tiene por uno de sus enemigos.

He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

12 A una vienen sus ejércitos, se atrincheran contra mí, y acampan en derredor de mi morada.

His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.

13 » Hace que de mí se alejen mis hermanos, y que mis conocidos, como extraños, se aparten de mí.

He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

14 M is parientes se detienen; mis conocidos me olvidan.

My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

15 L os moradores de mi casa y mis criadas me tienen por extraño; forastero soy yo ante sus ojos.

They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

16 L lamo a mi siervo y no responde, aun cuando con mi propia boca le suplico.

I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.

17 M i aliento ha venido a ser extraño a mi mujer, aunque por los hijos de mis entrañas le rogaba.

My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children’s sake of mine own body.

18 I ncluso los muchachos me desprecian, y al levantarme hablan contra mí.

Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.

19 T odos mis íntimos amigos me aborrecen; los que yo amo se vuelven contra mí.

All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.

20 M i piel y mi carne se han pegado a mis huesos, y he escapado con sólo la piel de mis dientes.

My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

21 ¡ Vosotros, mis amigos, tened compasión de mí! ¡Tened compasión de mí, porque la mano de Dios me ha tocado!

Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

22 ¿ Por qué vosotros me perseguís, lo mismo que Dios, y ni aun de mi carne os saciáis?

Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

23 » ¡Quién diera ahora que mis palabras fueran escritas! ¡Quién diera que se escribiesen en un libro,

Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

24 o que con cincel de hierro y con plomo fueran esculpidas en piedra para siempre!

That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

25 P ero yo sé que mi Redentor vive, y que al fin se levantará sobre el polvo,

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26 y que después de deshecha esta mi piel, en mi carne he de ver a Dios.

and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

27 L o veré por mí mismo; mis ojos lo verán, no los de otro. Pero ahora mi corazón se consume dentro de mí.

whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

28 » Deberíais decir: “¿Por qué lo perseguimos, si la raíz de su situación está en él mismo?”

But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

29 ¡ Temed vosotros delante de la espada, porque sobreviene el furor de la espada a causa de las injusticias! ¡Sabed, pues, que hay un juicio!»

Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
