1 D espués de esto aconteció que David consultó a Jehová diciendo: —¿Subiré a alguna de las ciudades de Judá? Jehová le respondió: —Sube. David volvió a preguntar: —¿A dónde subiré? —A Hebrón —le respondió él.

And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

2 D avid subió allá con sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam, la jezreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel.

So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal’s wife the Carmelite.

3 T ambién llevó David consigo a los hombres que lo acompañaban, cada uno con su familia, los cuales habitaron en las ciudades de Hebrón.

And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

4 L uego vinieron los hombres de Judá y ungieron allí a David como rey sobre la casa de Judá. Cuando avisaron a David que los de Jabes de Galaad habían sepultado a Saúl,

And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.

5 e nvió unos mensajeros a los de Jabes de Galaad, diciéndoles: «Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, por haber hecho esta obra de misericordia con vuestro señor, con Saúl, dándole sepultura.

And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.

6 A hora, pues, que Jehová os trate con misericordia y verdad. También yo os trataré bien por esto que habéis hecho.

And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.

7 E sfuércense, pues, ahora vuestras manos y sed valientes; pues murió Saúl, vuestro señor, y los de la casa de Judá me han ungido para que sea su rey.» Guerra entre David y la casa de Saúl

Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

8 P ero Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Saúl, tomó a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, lo llevó a Mahanaim

But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

9 y lo proclamó rey sobre Galaad, sobre Gesuri, sobre Jezreel, sobre Efraín, sobre Benjamín y sobre todo Israel.

and made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

10 D e cuarenta años era Is-boset hijo de Saúl cuando comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dos años. Solamente los de la casa de Judá siguieron a David.

Ish-bosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

11 E l número de días que David reinó en Hebrón sobre la casa de Judá fue de siete años y seis meses.

And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12 A bner hijo de Ner salió de Mahanaim a Gabaón con los siervos de Is-boset hijo de Saúl.

And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13 J oab, hijo de Sarvia y los siervos de David salieron también y los encontraron junto al estanque de Gabaón; se pararon, los unos a un lado del estanque y los otros al otro lado.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.

14 D ijo entonces Abner a Joab: —Levántense ahora los jóvenes y maniobren delante de nosotros. Joab respondió: —Que se levanten.

And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

15 E ntonces se levantaron y avanzaron en número igual, doce de Benjamín por Is-boset hijo de Saúl, y doce de los siervos de David.

Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

16 C ada uno echó mano de la cabeza de su adversario y metió la espada en el costado de su adversario, y cayeron todos a la vez; por eso aquel lugar, que está en Gabaón, fue llamado «Helcat-hazurim».

And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

17 A quel día se libró una batalla muy reñida, y Abner y los de Israel fueron vencidos por los siervos de David.

And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

18 E staban allí los tres hijos de Sarvia: Joab, Abisai y Asael. Asael, que era ligero de pies como una gacela del campo,

And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

19 s e lanzó detrás de Abner, sin apartarse ni a derecha ni a izquierda.

And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.

20 A bner volvió la vista y dijo: —¿No eres tú Asael? —Sí —respondió él.

Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.

21 E ntonces Abner le dijo: —Apártate a la derecha o a la izquierda, echa mano de alguno de los hombres y toma para ti sus despojos. Pero Asael no quiso dejar de perseguirlo.

And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.

22 A bner volvió a decir a Asael: —Deja de perseguirme; ¿por qué he de herirte hasta derribarte? ¿Cómo podría levantar entonces mi rostro delante de tu hermano Joab?

And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

23 C omo no quiso irse, Abner lo hirió con la empuñadura de la lanza por la quinta costilla. La lanza le salió por la espalda, y cayó muerto allí mismo. Y todos los que venían por aquel lugar donde Asael había caído muerto, se detenían.

Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

24 P ero Joab y Abisai persiguieron a Abner. Cuando el sol se puso, llegaron a la colina de Amma, que está delante de Gía, junto al camino del desierto de Gabaón.

Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

25 S e agruparon los hijos de Benjamín detrás de Abner, formando un solo ejército, e hicieron un alto en la cumbre de la colina.

And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.

26 E ntonces Abner gritó a Joab diciendo: —¿Nos devorará la espada perpetuamente? ¿No sabes tú que al cabo todo será amargura? ¿Hasta cuándo esperarás para decir al pueblo que deje de perseguir a sus hermanos?

Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

27 J oab respondió: —¡Vive Dios!, que de no haber hablado tú, el pueblo habría dejado de perseguir a sus hermanos sólo en la mañana.

And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.

28 E ntonces Joab tocó el cuerno: todo el pueblo se detuvo y no persiguió más a los de Israel, ni peleó más.

So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.

29 A bner y los suyos caminaron por el Arabá toda aquella noche, pasaron el Jordán, cruzaron por todo Bitrón y llegaron a Mahanaim.

And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.

30 J oab también dejó de perseguir a Abner y reunió a todo el pueblo. De los siervos de David faltaron Asael y diecinueve hombres.

And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.

31 P ero los siervos de David hirieron a trescientos sesenta de los hombres de Benjamín y de Abner, los cuales murieron.

But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner’s men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.

32 T omaron luego a Asael y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre en Belén. Después de caminar toda aquella noche, Joab y sus hombres llegaron a Hebrón al amanecer.

And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Beth-lehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.
