1 Y sucedió después de estas cosas que dijeron a José: He aquí tu padre está enfermo. Y él tomó consigo a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraím.

And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 Y se le hizo saber a Jacob, diciendo: He aquí tu hijo José viene a ti. Entonces se esforzó Israel, y se sentó sobre la cama,

And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.

3 y dijo a José: El Dios omnipotente me apareció en Luz en la tierra de Canaán, y me bendijo,

And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

4 y me dijo: He aquí yo te haré crecer, y te multiplicaré, y te pondré por estirpe de naciones; y daré esta tierra a tu descendencia después de ti por heredad perpetua.

and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.

5 Y ahora tus dos hijos Efraím y Manasés, que te nacieron en la tierra de Egipto, míos son; como Rubén y Simeón, serán míos.

And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

6 Y los que después de ellos has engendrado, serán tuyos; por el nombre de sus hermanos serán llamados en sus heredades.

And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

7 P orque cuando yo venía de Padán-aram, se me murió Raquel en la tierra de Canaán, en el camino, como media legua de tierra viniendo a Efrata; y la sepulté allí en el camino de Efrata, que es Belén.

And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Beth-lehem.

8 Y vio Israel los hijos de José, y dijo: ¿Quiénes son éstos?

And Israel beheld Joseph’s sons, and said, Who are these?

9 Y respondió José a su padre: Son mis hijos, que Dios me ha dado aquí. Y él dijo: Acércalos ahora a mí, y los bendeciré.

And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

10 Y los ojos de Israel estaban tan agravados por la vejez, que no podía ver. Les hizo, pues, acercarse a él, y él les besó y les abrazó.

Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.

11 Y dijo Israel a José: No pensaba yo ver tu rostro, y he aquí Dios me ha hecho ver también a tu descendencia.

And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.

12 E ntonces José los sacó de entre sus rodillas, y se inclinó a tierra.

And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

13 Y los tomó José a ambos, Efraím a su derecha, a la izquierda de Israel, y Manasés a su izquierda, a la derecha de Israel; y los acercó a él.

And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought them near unto him.

14 E ntonces Israel extendió su mano derecha, y la puso sobre la cabeza de Efraím, que era el menor, y su mano izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés, colocando así sus manos adrede, aunque Manasés era el primogénito.

And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.

15 Y bendijo a José, diciendo: El Dios en cuya presencia anduvieron mis padres Abraham e Isaac, el Dios que me mantiene desde que yo soy hasta este día,

And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,

16 e l Ángel que me liberta de todo mal, bendiga a estos jóvenes; y sea perpetuado en ellos mi nombre, y el nombre de mis padres Abraham e Isaac, y multiplíquense en gran manera en medio de la tierra.

the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

17 P ero viendo José que su padre ponía la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraím, le causó esto disgusto; y asió la mano de su padre, para cambiarla de la cabeza de Efraím a la cabeza de Manasés.

And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head.

18 Y dijo José a su padre: No así, padre mío, porque éste es el primogénito; pon tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza.

And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.

19 M as su padre no quiso, y dijo: Lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé; también él vendrá a ser un pueblo, y será también engrandecido; pero su hermano menor será más grande que él, y su descendencia formará multitud de naciones.

And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

20 Y los bendijo aquel día, diciendo: En ti bendecirá Israel, diciendo: Hágate Dios como a Efraím y como a Manasés. Y puso a Efraím antes de Manasés.

And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 Y dijo Israel a José: He aquí yo muero; pero Dios estará con vosotros, y os hará volver a la tierra de vuestros padres.

And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

22 Y yo te he dado a ti una parte más que a tus hermanos, la cual tomé yo de mano del amorreo con mi espada y con mi arco.

Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
