1 A conteció que en el año cuarto del rey Darío, vino palabra de Jehová a Zacarías, a los cuatro días del mes noveno, que es Quisléu,

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

2 c uando el pueblo de Betel había enviado a Sarezer, con Régem-mélec y sus hombres, a implorar el favor de Jehová,

when they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to pray before the Lord,

3 y a hablar a los sacerdotes que estaban en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, y a los profetas, diciendo: ¿Lloraremos en el mes quinto? ¿Haremos abstinencia como hemos hecho ya algunos años?

and to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

4 V ino, pues, a mí palabra de Jehová de los ejércitos, diciendo:

Then came the word of the Lord of hosts unto me, saying,

5 H abla a todo el pueblo del país, y a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Cuando ayunabais y llorabais en el quinto y en el séptimo mes estos setenta años, ¿es por mí por quien habéis ayunado?

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

6 Y cuando coméis y bebéis, ¿no coméis y bebéis para vosotros mismos?

And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

7 ¿ No son éstas las palabras que proclamó Jehová por medio de los profetas primeros, cuando Jerusalén estaba habitada y en paz, y sus ciudades en sus alrededores y el Négueb y la Sefelá estaban también habitados? La desobediencia, causa del cautiverio

Should ye not hear the words which the Lord hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

8 Y vino palabra de Jehová a Zacarías, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came unto Zechariah, saying,

9 A sí ha hablado Jehová de los ejércitos, diciendo: Juzgad conforme a verdad, y practicad la misericordia y la compasión cada cual con su hermano;

Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

10 n o oprimáis a la viuda, al huérfano, al extranjero ni al pobre; ni ninguno maquine el mal en su corazón contra su hermano.

and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

11 P ero no quisieron escuchar, antes volvieron la espalda, y taparon sus oídos para no oír;

But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

12 y pusieron su corazón como el diamante, para no oír la ley ni las palabras que Jehová de los ejércitos enviaba por su Espíritu, por medio de los profetas primeros; vino, por tanto, gran enojo de parte de Jehová de los ejércitos.

Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the Lord of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the Lord of hosts.

13 Y aconteció que así como él clamó, y no escucharon, también ellos clamarán, y yo no escucharé, dice Jehová de los ejércitos;

Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts:

14 s ino que los esparciré con torbellino por todas las naciones que ellos no conocen. Así fue desolada la tierra tras ellos, sin quedar quien fuese ni viniese; pues convirtieron en desierto la tierra deseable.

but I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.
