1 Y sucedió que cuando oyó esto el rey Ezequías, rasgó sus vestidos, se cubrió de cilicio y entró en la casa del Señor.

And it came to pass when king Hezekiah heard, that he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.

2 E nvió entonces a Eliaquim, mayordomo de la casa real, con el escriba Sebna y los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de cilicio, al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz.

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.

3 Y ellos le dijeron: Así dice Ezequías: “Este día es día de angustia, de reprensión y de desprecio, pues hijos están para nacer, pero no hay fuerzas para dar a luz.

And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of reviling; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

4 “ Tal vez el Señor tu Dios oirá las palabras del Rabsaces, a quien su señor, el rey de Asiria, ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y lo reprenderá por las palabras que el Señor tu Dios ha oído. Eleva, pues, una oración por el remanente que aún queda.”

It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

5 C uando llegaron los siervos del rey Ezequías ante Isaías,

And the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 é ste les dijo: Así diréis a vuestro señor: “Así dice el Señor: ‘No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las que los siervos del rey de Asiria me han blasfemado.

And Isaiah said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith Jehovah: Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 ‘ He aquí, pondré en él un espíritu, oirá un rumor y se volverá a su tierra; y en su tierra lo haré caer a espada.’”

Behold, I will put a spirit into him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 E ntonces el Rabsaces volvió y halló al rey de Asiria peleando contra Libna, pues había oído que el rey había partido de Laquis.

And Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

9 Y les oyó decir acerca de Tirhaca, rey de Etiopía: Ha salido a pelear contra ti. Y cuando lo oyó, envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:

And he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

10 A sí diréis a Ezequías, rey de Judá: “No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: ‘Jerusalén no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.’

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: Let not thy God, upon whom thou reliest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 “ He aquí, tú has oído lo que los reyes de Asiria han hecho a todas las naciones, destruyéndolas por completo, ¿y serás tú librado?

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all countries, destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

12 “ ¿Acaso los libraron los dioses de las naciones que mis padres destruyeron, es decir, Gozán, Harán, Resef y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?

Have the gods of the nations which my fathers have destroyed delivered them, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Thelassar?

13 “ ¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Iva?”

Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?

14 E ntonces Ezequías tomó la carta de mano de los mensajeros y la leyó, y subió a la casa del Señor y la extendió delante del Señor.

And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up into the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah.

15 Y Ezequías oró al Señor, diciendo:

And Hezekiah prayed to Jehovah, saying,

16 O h Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que estás sobre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.

Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, who sittest the cherubim, thou, the Same, thou alone art the God of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

17 I nclina, oh Señor, tu oído y escucha; abre, oh Señor, tus ojos y mira; escucha todas las palabras que Senaquerib ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo.

Incline thine ear, O Jehovah, and hear; open, Jehovah, thine eyes, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent to reproach the living God.

18 E n verdad, oh Señor, los reyes de Asiria han asolado todas las naciones y sus tierras,

Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the lands, and their countries,

19 y han echado sus dioses al fuego, porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombre, de madera y piedra; por eso los han destruido.

and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; and they have destroyed them.

20 Y ahora, Señor, Dios nuestro, líbranos de su mano para que todos los reinos de la tierra sepan que sólo tú, oh Señor, eres Dios.

And now, Jehovah our God, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art Jehovah, thou only.

21 E ntonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió a decir a Ezequías: Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Por cuanto me has rogado acerca de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria,

And Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,

22 e sta es la palabra que el Señor ha hablado contra él: ‘Te ha despreciado y se ha burlado de ti la virgen hija de Sion; ha movido la cabeza a tus espaldas la hija de Jerusalén.

this is the word which Jehovah hath spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.

23 ‘ ¿A quién has injuriado y blasfemado ? ¿Y contra quién has alzado la voz y levantado con altivez tus ojos ? ¡Contra el Santo de Israel!

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted the voice? Against the Holy One of Israel hast thou lifted up thine eyes on high.

24 ‘ Por mano de tus siervos has injuriado al Señor, y has dicho: “Con mis numerosos carros yo subí a las cumbres de los montes, a las partes más remotas del Líbano, y corté sus altos cedros y sus mejores cipreses; iré a su más alta cima, a su más frondoso bosque.

By thy servants thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the recesses of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, the choice of its cypresses; and I will enter into its furthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.

25 “ Yo cavé pozos y bebí aguas, y sequé con la planta de mis pies todos los ríos de Egipto.”

I have digged and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Matsor.

26 ‘ ¿No has oído ? Hace mucho tiempo que lo hice, desde la antigüedad lo había planeado. Ahora he hecho que suceda, para que conviertas las ciudades fortificadas en montones de ruinas.

Hast thou not heard that long ago I did it, and that from ancient days I formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest lay waste fortified cities ruinous heaps.

27 ‘ Sus habitantes, faltos de fuerzas, fueron desalentados y humillados; vinieron a ser como la vegetación del campo y como la hierba verde, como la hierba en los techos que se quema antes de que haya crecido.

And their inhabitants were powerless, they were dismayed and put to shame; they were the grass of the field and the green herb, the grass on the housetops, and grain blighted before it be grown up.

28 ‘ Pero conozco tu sentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.

But I know thine abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy raging against me.

29 ‘ A causa de tu furor contra mí, y porque tu arrogancia ha subido hasta mis oídos, pondré, pues, mi garfio en tu nariz y mi freno en tu boca, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.

Because thy raging against me and thine arrogance is come up into mine ears, I will put my ring in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will make thee go back by the way by which thou camest.

30 ‘ Esto te será por señal: Este año comeréis lo que crezca espontáneamente; el segundo año lo que nazca de por sí, y en el tercer año sembrad, segad, plantad viñas y comed su fruto.

And this the sign unto thee: there shall be eaten this year such as groweth of itself; and in the second year that which springeth of the same; but in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards and eat the fruit thereof.

31 ‘ Y el remanente de la casa de Judá que se salve, echará de nuevo raíces por debajo y dará fruto por arriba.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward;

32 ‘ Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y del monte Sion sobrevivientes. El celo del Señor de los ejércitos hará esto.’”

for out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of mount Zion they that escape: the zeal of Jehovah of hosts shall do this.

33 P or tanto, así dice el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: “El no entrará en esta ciudad ni lanzará allí flecha alguna; tampoco vendrá delante de ella con escudo ni levantará terraplén contra ella.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.

34 “ Por el camino que vino, por él se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad” —declara el Señor.

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith Jehovah.

35 “ Porque defenderé esta ciudad para salvarla por amor a mí mismo y por amor a mi siervo David.” Muerte de Senaquerib

And I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

36 Y salió el ángel del Señor e hirió a ciento ochenta y cinco mil en el campamento de los asirios; cuando los demás se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí, todos eran cadáveres.

And an angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead bodies.

37 E ntonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, partió y regresó a su tierra, y habitó en Nínive.

And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and abode at Nineveh.

38 Y sucedió que mientras él adoraba en la casa de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarezaer lo mataron a espada y huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. Y su hijo Esar-hadón reinó en su lugar.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
