1 S arah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

Viaţa Sarei a fost de o sută douăzeci şi şapte de ani: aceştia sînt anii vieţii Sarei.

2 S o Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

Sara a murit la Chiriat-Arba, adică Hebron, în ţara Canaan; şi Avraam a venit să jălească pe Sara şi s'o plîngă.

3 T hen Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

Avraam s'a sculat apoi dinaintea moartei sale, şi a vorbit astfel fiilor lui Het:

4 “ I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

Eu sînt străin şi venetic printre voi, daţi-mi un ogor, ca loc de îngropare la voi, ca să-mi îngrop moarta şi s'o ridic dinaintea mea.``

5 A nd the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

Fiii lui Het au răspuns astfel lui Avraam:

6 “ Hear us, my lord: You are a mighty prince among us; bury your dead in the choicest of our burial places. None of us will withhold from you his burial place, that you may bury your dead.”

Ascultă-ne, domnule! Tu eşti ca un domnitor al lui Dumnezeu în mijlocul nostru; îngroapă-ţi moarta în cel mai bun din mormintele noastre! Niciunul din noi nu te va opri să-ţi îngropi moarta în mormîntul lui.``

7 T hen Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land, the sons of Heth.

Avraam s'a sculat şi s'a aruncat cu faţa la pămînt înaintea norodului ţării, adică înaintea fiilor lui Het.

8 A nd he spoke with them, saying, “If it is your wish that I bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and meet with Ephron the son of Zohar for me,

Şi le -a vorbit astfel:,, Dacă găsiţi cu cale să-mi îngrop moarta şi s'o iau dinaintea ochilor mei, ascultaţi-mă, şi rugaţi pentru mine pe Efron, fiul lui Ţohar,

9 t hat he may give me the cave of Machpelah which he has, which is at the end of his field. Let him give it to me at the full price, as property for a burial place among you.”

să-mi dea peştera Macpela, care -i a lui, şi care este chiar la marginea ogorului lui; să mi -o dea în schimbul preţului ei, ca să-mi slujească drept loc pentru îngropare în mijlocul vostru.``

10 N ow Ephron dwelt among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of the sons of Heth, all who entered at the gate of his city, saying,

Efron era şi el acolo în mijlocul fiilor lui Het. Şi Efron, Hetitul, a răspuns lui Avraam, în auzul fiilor lui Het şi în auzul tuturor celor ce treceau pe poarta cetăţii:

11 “ No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field and the cave that is in it; I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. I give it to you. Bury your dead!”

Nu, domnul meu, ascultă-mă! Îţi dăruiesc ogorul şi-ţi dăruiesc şi peştera care este în el. Ţi le dăruiesc în faţa fiilor norodului meu: şi îngroapă-ţi moarta.``

12 T hen Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land;

Avraam s'a aruncat cu faţa la pămînt înaintea norodului ţării.

13 a nd he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, “If you will give it, please hear me. I will give you money for the field; take it from me and I will bury my dead there.”

Şi a vorbit astfel lui Efron, în auzul norodului ţării:,, Ascultă-mă, te rog! Îţi dau preţul ogorului: primeşte -l dela mine; şi-mi voi îngropa moarta în el.``

14 A nd Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

Şi Efron a răspuns astfel lui Avraam:

15 “ My lord, listen to me; the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me? So bury your dead.”

Domnul meu, ascultă-mă! O bucată de pămînt de patru sute de sicli de argint, ce este aceasta între mine şi tine? Îngroapă-ţi dar moarta!``

16 A nd Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed out the silver for Ephron which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, currency of the merchants.

Avraam a înţeles pe Efron. Şi Avraam a cîntărit lui Efron preţul cumpărării despre care vorbise, în faţa fiilor lui Het: patru sute de sicli de argint, cari mergeau la orice negustor.

17 S o the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, which were within all the surrounding borders, were deeded

Ogorul lui Efron din Macpela, care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre, ogorul şi peştera din el, şi toţi copacii cari se aflau în ogor şi în toate hotarele lui dejur împrejur,

18 t o Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

au fost întărite astfel ca moşie a lui Avraam, în faţa fiilor lui Het şi a tuturor celor ce treceau pe poarta cetăţii.

19 A nd after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

După aceea, Avraam a îngropat pe Sara, nevastă-sa, în peştera din ogorul Macpela, care este faţă în faţă cu Mamre, adică Hebron, în ţara Canaan.

20 S o the field and the cave that is in it were deeded to Abraham by the sons of Heth as property for a burial place.

Ogorul şi peştera din el au fost întărite astfel lui Avraam ca ogor pentru înmormîntare, de către fiii lui Het.
