1 T ruly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

Verdadeiramente bom é Deus para com Israel, para com os limpos de coração.

2 B ut as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

Quanto a mim, os meus pés quase resvalaram; pouco faltou para que os meus passos escorregassem.

3 F or I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Pois eu tinha inveja dos soberbos, ao ver a prosperidade dos ímpios.

4 F or there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

Porque eles não sofrem dores; são e robusto é o seu corpo.

5 T hey are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

Não se acham em tribulações como outra gente, nem são afligidos como os demais homens.

6 T herefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

Pelo que a soberba lhes cinge o pescoço como um colar; a violência os cobre como um vestido.

7 T heir eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

Os olhos deles estão inchados de gordura; trasbordam as fantasias do seu coração.

8 T hey are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

Motejam e falam maliciosamente; falam arrogantemente da opressão.

9 T hey set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Põem a sua boca contra os céus, e a sua língua percorre a terra.

10 T herefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

Pelo que o povo volta para eles e não acha neles falta alguma.

11 A nd they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

E dizem: Como o sabe Deus? e: Há conhecimento no Altíssimo?

12 B ehold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

Eis que estes são ímpios; sempre em segurança, aumentam as suas riquezas.

13 V erily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

Na verdade que em vão tenho purificado o meu coração e lavado as minhas mãos na inocência,

14 F or all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

pois todo o dia tenho sido afligido, e castigado cada manhã.

15 I f I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

Se eu tivesse dito: Também falarei assim; eis que me teria havido traiçoeiramente para com a geração de teus filhos.

16 W hen I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

Quando me esforçava para compreender isto, achei que era tarefa difícil para mim,

17 U ntil I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

até que entrei no santuário de Deus; então percebi o fim deles.

18 S urely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

Certamente tu os pões em lugares escorregadios, tu os lanças para a ruína.

19 H ow are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

Como caem na desolação num momento! ficam totalmente consumidos de terrores.

20 A s a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

Como faz com um sonho o que acorda, assim, ó Senhor, quando acordares, desprezarás as suas fantasias.

21 T hus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

Quando o meu espírito se amargurava, e sentia picadas no meu coração,

22 S o foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

estava embrutecido, e nada sabia; era como animal diante de ti.

23 N evertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

Todavia estou sempre contigo; tu me seguras a mão direita.

24 T hou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Tu me guias com o teu conselho, e depois me receberás em glória.

25 W hom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

A quem tenho eu no céu senão a ti? e na terra não há quem eu deseje além de ti.

26 M y flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

A minha carne e o meu coração desfalecem; do meu coração, porém, Deus é a fortaleza, e o meu quinhão para sempre.

27 F or, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

Pois os que estão longe de ti perecerão; tu exterminas todos aqueles que se desviam de ti.

28 B ut it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

Mas para mim, bom é aproximar-me de Deus; ponho a minha confiança no Senhor Deus, para anunciar todas as suas obras.
