1 C uando se acercaban a Jerusalén, junto a Betfagé y a Betania, frente al Monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos de sus discípulos,

Jesus and His followers were near Jerusalem at the Mount of Olives. They were in the towns of Bethphage and Bethany. Jesus sent two of His followers on ahead.

2 y les dijo: —Id a la aldea que está enfrente de vosotros, y al entrar en ella hallaréis un pollino atado, en el cual ningún hombre ha montado. Desatadlo y traedlo.

He said to them, “Go into the town over there. As soon as you get there, you will find a young donkey tied. No man has ever sat on it. Let the donkey loose and bring it here.

3 Y si alguien os pregunta: “¿Por qué hacéis eso?”, decid que el Señor lo necesita y que luego lo devolverá.

If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing that?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it. He will send it back again soon.’”

4 F ueron, y hallaron el pollino atado afuera a la puerta, en el recodo del camino, y lo desataron.

The two followers went on their way. They found the young donkey tied by the door where two streets crossed. They took the rope off its neck.

5 A lgunos de los que estaban allí les preguntaron: —¿Qué hacéis desatando el pollino?

Some men were standing there. They said to the two followers, “Why are you taking the rope off that young donkey?”

6 E llos entonces les dijeron como Jesús había dicho, y los dejaron ir.

The two followers told them what Jesus had said and the men let them take the donkey.

7 T rajeron el pollino a Jesús, echaron sobre él sus mantos, y se sentó sobre él.

They brought it to Jesus and put their coats over it. Jesus sat on the donkey.

8 T ambién muchos tendían sus mantos por el camino, y otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían por el camino.

Many people put their clothes down on the road. Others cut branches off the trees and put them down on the road.

9 L os que iban delante y los que venían detrás gritaban, diciendo: —¡Hosana! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!

Those who went in front and those who followed spoke with loud voices, “Greatest One! Great and honored is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!

10 ¡ Bendito el reino de nuestro padre David que viene! ¡Hosana en las alturas!

Great is the coming holy nation of our father David. It will come in the name of the Lord, Greatest One in the highest heaven.”

11 E ntró Jesús en Jerusalén y fue al Templo. Después de observarlo todo, como ya anochecía, se fue a Betania con los doce. Jesús maldice la higuera estéril

Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the house of God. He looked around at everything. Then He went with the twelve followers to the town of Bethany because it was late. The Fig Tree with No Fruit

12 A l día siguiente, cuando salieron de Betania, tuvo hambre.

They came from Bethany the next morning. Jesus was hungry.

13 V iendo a lo lejos una higuera que tenía hojas, fue a ver si tal vez hallaba en ella algo; pero cuando llegó a ella, nada halló sino hojas, pues no era tiempo de higos.

Along the road He saw a fig tree with leaves on it. He went over to see if it had any fruit. He saw nothing but leaves. It was not the right time for figs.

14 E ntonces Jesús dijo a la higuera: —¡Nunca jamás coma nadie fruto de ti! Y lo oyeron sus discípulos. Purificación del Templo

Jesus said to the tree, “Let no one ever again eat fruit from you.” His followers heard Him say it. Jesus Stops the Buying and the Selling in the House of God

15 V inieron, pues, a Jerusalén, y entrando Jesús en el Templo comenzó a echar fuera a los que vendían y compraban en el Templo. Volcó las mesas de los cambistas y las sillas de los que vendían palomas;

Then they came to Jerusalem. Jesus went into the house of God. He began to make the people leave who were selling and buying in the house of God. He turned over the tables of the men who changed money. He turned over the seats of those who sold doves.

16 y no consentía que nadie atravesara el Templo llevando utensilio alguno.

He would not allow anyone to carry a pot or pan through the house of God.

17 Y les enseñaba, diciendo: —¿No está escrito: “Mi casa será llamada casa de oración para todas las naciones”? Pero vosotros la habéis hecho cueva de ladrones.

He taught them saying, “Is it not written, ‘My house is to be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? You have made it a place of robbers.”

18 L o oyeron los escribas y los principales sacerdotes, y buscaban cómo matarlo, porque le tenían miedo, por cuanto todo el pueblo estaba admirado de su doctrina.

The teachers of the Law and the religious leaders of the Jews heard it. They tried to find some way to put Jesus to death. But they were afraid of Him because all the people were surprised and wondered about His teaching.

19 P ero al llegar la noche, Jesús salió de la ciudad. La higuera maldecida se seca

When evening came, Jesus and His followers went out of the city. The Fig Tree Dries Up

20 P or la mañana, al pasar junto a la higuera, vieron que se había secado desde las raíces.

In the morning they passed by the fig tree. They saw it was dried up from the roots.

21 E ntonces Pedro, acordándose, le dijo: —Maestro, mira, la higuera que maldijiste se ha secado.

Peter remembered what had happened the day before and said to Jesus, “Teacher, see! The fig tree which You spoke to has dried up!”

22 R espondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Tened fe en Dios.

Jesus said to them, “Have faith in God.

23 D e cierto os digo que cualquiera que diga a este monte: “Quítate y arrójate en el mar”, y no duda en su corazón, sino que cree que será hecho lo que dice, lo que diga le será hecho.

For sure, I tell you, a person may say to this mountain, ‘Move from here into the sea.’ And if he does not doubt, but believes that what he says will be done, it will happen.

24 P or tanto, os digo que todo lo que pidáis orando, creed que lo recibiréis, y os vendrá.

Because of this, I say to you, whatever you ask for when you pray, have faith that you will receive it. Then you will get it.

25 Y cuando estéis orando, perdonad, si tenéis algo contra alguien, para que también vuestro Padre que está en los cielos os perdone a vosotros vuestras ofensas,

When you stand to pray, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him. Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins also.

26 p orque si vosotros no perdonáis, tampoco vuestro Padre que está en los cielos os perdonará vuestras ofensas. La autoridad de Jesús

If you do not forgive them their sins, your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins.”

27 V olvieron entonces a Jerusalén y, andando él por el Templo, se le acercaron los principales sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos,

They came again to Jerusalem. Jesus was walking around in the house of God. The religious leaders and the teachers of the Law and other leaders came to Him.

28 y le preguntaron: —¿Con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿Quién te dio autoridad para hacer estas cosas?

They asked, “How do You have the right and the power to do these things? Who gave You the right and the power to do them?”

29 J esús, respondiendo, les dijo: —Os haré yo también una pregunta. Respondedme y os diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing also. If you tell Me, then I will tell you by what right and power I do these things.

30 E l bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres? Respondedme.

Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Tell Me.”

31 E ntonces ellos discutían entre sí, diciendo: —Si decimos “del cielo”, dirá: “¿Por qué, pues, no lo creísteis?”

They talked among themselves. They said, “If we say from heaven, He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

32 ¿ Y si decimos “de los hombres”?... Pero temían al pueblo, pues todos tenían a Juan como un verdadero profeta.

But how can we say, ‘From men’?” They were afraid of the people because everyone believed that John was one who spoke for God.

33 A sí que, respondiendo, dijeron a Jesús: —No sabemos. Entonces, respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Tampoco yo os digo con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.

So they said, “We do not know.” Then Jesus said, “Then I will not tell you by what right and power I do these things.”
