1 E staba cerca la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, que se llama la Pascua.
The time for the supper of bread without yeast was near. It was the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt.
2 L os principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo matarlo, porque temían al pueblo.
The religious leaders and the teachers of the Law looked for a way to kill Jesus. But they were afraid of the people.
3 E ntró Satanás en Judas, por sobrenombre Iscariote, el cual era uno de los doce;
Then Satan came into the heart of Judas who was called Iscariot. He was one of the twelve followers.
4 é ste fue y habló con los principales sacerdotes y con los jefes de la guardia, de cómo se lo entregaría.
Judas went away and talked with the religious leaders and the leaders of the people. He talked about how he might hand Jesus over to them.
5 E llos se alegraron y convinieron en darle dinero.
They were glad and promised to pay him money.
6 É l aceptó y buscaba una oportunidad para entregárselo a espaldas del pueblo. La Cena del Señor
Judas promised to do this and then looked for a way to hand Jesus over when there were no people around. Getting Ready for the Special Supper
7 L legó el día de los Panes sin levadura, en el cual era necesario sacrificar el cordero de la Pascua.
The day of bread without yeast came. It was the day when the lamb had to be killed and given on the altar in worship in the house of God. It was the special religious gathering to remember how the Jews left Egypt.
8 E ntonces Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciendo: —Id, preparadnos la Pascua para que la comamos.
Jesus sent Peter and John and said, “Go and get this special supper ready for us that we may eat.”
9 E llos le preguntaron: —¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos?
They said to Him, “Where do You want us to get it ready?”
10 É l les dijo: —Al entrar en la ciudad os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidlo hasta la casa donde entre
He answered, “See, when you go into the city, you will meet a man carrying a jar of water. Follow him into the house where he goes.
11 y decid al padre de familia de esa casa: “El Maestro te dice: ‘¿Dónde está el aposento donde he de comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?’”
Say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks you, “Where is the room you keep for friends where I may eat this special supper with My followers?”’
12 E ntonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto, ya dispuesto; preparadla allí.
He will take you to a large room on the second floor with everything in it. Make it ready for us.”
13 F ueron, pues, y hallaron como les había dicho; y prepararon la Pascua.
They went and found everything as Jesus had said. They got ready for the special supper. The First Lord’s Supper
14 C uando era la hora se sentó a la mesa, y con él los apóstoles.
When the time came, Jesus sat down with the twelve followers.
15 Y les dijo: —¡Cuánto he deseado comer con vosotros esta Pascua antes que padezca!,
He said to them, “I have wanted very much to eat this special supper with you to remember how the Jews left Egypt. I have wanted to eat this with you before I suffer.
16 p orque os digo que no la comeré más hasta que se cumpla en el reino de Dios.
I say to you, I will not eat this special supper again until its true meaning is completed in the holy nation of God.”
17 T omando la copa, dio gracias y dijo: —Tomad esto y repartidlo entre vosotros,
Then Jesus took the cup and gave thanks. He said, “Take this and pass it to each one.
18 p orque os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid hasta que el reino de Dios venga.
I say to you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the holy nation of God comes.”
19 T ambién tomó el pan y dio gracias, y lo partió y les dio, diciendo: —Esto es mi cuerpo, que por vosotros es dado; haced esto en memoria de mí.
Then Jesus took bread and gave thanks and broke it in pieces. He gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you. Do this to remember Me.”
20 D e igual manera, después de haber cenado, tomó la copa, diciendo: —Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre, que por vosotros se derrama.
In the same way, after they had finished the bread, He took the cup. He said, “This cup is My blood of the New Way of Worship which is given for you. Jesus Tells of the One Who Will Hand Him Over
21 P ero la mano del que me entrega está conmigo en la mesa.
“See, the hand of the one who will give Me over to the leaders of the country is on the table with Me.
22 A la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, según lo que está determinado; pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien es entregado!
The Son of Man will be taken this way because it has been in God’s plan. But it is bad for that man who hands Him over!”
23 E ntonces ellos comenzaron a discutir entre sí sobre quién de ellos sería el que habría de hacer esto. La grandeza en el servicio
They began to ask each other which of them would do this. Arguing about Who Is the Greatest
24 H ubo también entre ellos una discusión sobre quién de ellos sería el mayor.
They started to argue among themselves about who was thought to be the greatest.
25 P ero él les dijo: —Los reyes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que sobre ellas tienen autoridad son llamados bienhechores;
Jesus said to them, “The kings of the nations show their power to the people. Those who have power over the people are given names of honor.
26 p ero no así vosotros, sino que el mayor entre vosotros sea como el más joven, y el que dirige, como el que sirve,
But you will not be like that. Let the greatest among you be as the least. Let the leader be as the one who cares for others.
27 p ues, ¿cuál es mayor, el que se sienta a la mesa o el que sirve? ¿No es el que se sienta a la mesa? Pero yo estoy entre vosotros como el que sirve.
Who is greater, the one who is eating at the table, or the one who is caring for him? Is it not the one who is eating at the table? But I am here with you as One Who cares for you. The Followers Will Be Honored
28 » Y vosotros sois los que habéis permanecido conmigo en mis pruebas.
“You have stayed with Me through all the hard things that have come to Me.
29 Y o, pues, os asigno un Reino, como mi Padre me lo asignó a mí,
As My Father has given Me a holy nation, I will give you the right
30 p ara que comáis y bebáis a mi mesa en mi Reino y os sentéis en tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro
to eat and drink at My table in My holy nation. You will sit on thrones and judge the twelve family groups of the Jewish nation.” Jesus Tells How Peter Will Lie about Him
31 D ijo también el Señor: —Simón, Simón, Satanás os ha pedido para zarandearos como a trigo;
The Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has wanted to have you. He will divide you as wheat is divided from that which is no good.
32 p ero yo he rogado por ti, para que tu fe no falte; y tú, una vez vuelto, confirma a tus hermanos.
But I have prayed for you. I have prayed that your faith will be strong and that you will not give up. When you return, you must help to make your brothers strong.”
33 É l le dijo: —Señor, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo no sólo a la cárcel, sino también a la muerte.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go to prison and to die with You!”
34 Y él le dijo: —Pedro, te digo que el gallo no cantará hoy antes que tú niegues tres veces que me conoces. Bolsa, alforja y espada
Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, a rooster will not crow today before you will say three times that you do not know Me.” The Followers Are Told of Trouble to Come
35 L es dijo: —Cuando os envié sin bolsa, alforja ni calzado, ¿os faltó algo? Ellos dijeron: —Nada.
Jesus said to them, “I sent you without money or bag or shoes. Did you need anything?” They said, “Nothing.”
36 Y les dijo: —Pues ahora el que tiene bolsa, tómela, y también la alforja; y el que no tiene espada, venda su capa y compre una.
Then He said to them, “But now whoever has a money-bag and a bag for food should take it. Whoever does not have a sword should sell his coat and buy one.
37 O s digo que es necesario que se cumpla todavía en mí aquello que está escrito: “Y fue contado con los inicuos”, porque lo que está escrito de mí, tiene cumplimiento.
I tell you, that what has been written about Me must happen. It says, ‘They thought of Him as One Who broke the Law.’ What is told about Me must happen.”
38 E ntonces ellos dijeron: —Señor, aquí hay dos espadas. Y él les dijo: —Basta. Jesús ora en Getsemaní
They said, “Lord, look, we have two swords.” He answered, “That is enough.” Jesus Prays in the Garden
39 S alió y se fue, como solía, al Monte de los Olivos; y sus discípulos lo siguieron.
Jesus came out of the room. Then He went to the Mount of Olives as He had been doing. The followers went with Him.
40 C uando llegó a aquel lugar, les dijo: —Orad para que no entréis en tentación.
When He got there, He said to them, “Pray that you will not be tempted.”
41 S e apartó de ellos a distancia como de un tiro de piedra, y puesto de rodillas oró,
He walked away from them about as far as a stone can be thrown. There He got down with His face on the ground and prayed.
42 d iciendo: «Padre, si quieres, pasa de mí esta copa; pero no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya.»
He said, “Father, if it can be done, take away what must happen to Me. Even so, not what I want, but what You want.”
43 E ntonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo para fortalecerlo.
An angel from heaven came and gave Him strength.
44 L leno de angustia oraba más intensamente, y era su sudor como grandes gotas de sangre que caían hasta la tierra.
His heart was much troubled and He prayed all the more. Water ran from His face like blood and fell to the ground.
45 C uando se levantó de la oración y fue a sus discípulos, los halló durmiendo a causa de la tristeza;
When Jesus got up after praying, He went back to the followers. He found them sleeping because of so much sorrow.
46 y les dijo: —¿Por qué dormís? Levantaos y orad para que no entréis en tentación. Arresto de Jesús
He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you will not be tempted.” Jesus Is Handed Over to Sinners
47 M ientras él aún hablaba, se presentó una turba. El que se llamaba Judas, uno de los doce, que iba al frente de ellos, se acercó hasta Jesús para besarlo.
While Jesus was speaking, Judas came walking ahead of many people. He was one of the twelve followers. He came near to Jesus to kiss Him.
48 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: —Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del hombre?
But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you handing over the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 C uando los que estaban con él se dieron cuenta de lo que había de acontecer, le dijeron: —Señor, ¿heriremos a espada?
Those around Jesus saw what was going to happen and asked, “Lord, should we fight with our swords?”
50 E ntonces uno de ellos hirió a un siervo del Sumo sacerdote y le cortó la oreja derecha.
One of them hit a servant who was owned by the head religious leader and cut off his right ear.
51 E ntonces, respondiendo Jesús, dijo: —Basta ya; dejad. Y tocando su oreja, lo sanó.
Jesus said, “Stop! This is enough.” And He put His hand on his ear and healed him. Jesus Stands in Front of the Religious Leaders
52 E ntonces Jesús dijo a los principales sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del Templo y a los ancianos que habían venido contra él: —¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y palos?
Jesus said to the religious leaders and the leaders of the house of God and the other leaders who came to Him, “Have you come with swords and sticks to take Me, as if I were a robber?
53 H abiendo estado con vosotros cada día en el Templo, no extendisteis las manos contra mí; pero ésta es vuestra hora y la potestad de las tinieblas. Pedro niega a Jesús
While I was with you everyday in the house of God, you never took hold of Me. But now is the time you are to come and you have come in the dark.”
54 L o prendieron, lo llevaron y lo condujeron a casa del Sumo sacerdote. Y Pedro lo seguía de lejos.
Then they led Jesus away to the house of the head religious leader. Peter followed a long way behind Him. Peter Said He Did Not Know Jesus
55 E ncendieron fuego en medio del patio y se sentaron alrededor; también Pedro se sentó entre ellos.
They built a fire in the yard and sat down. Peter sat down with them.
56 P ero una criada, al verlo sentado al fuego, se fijó en él y dijo: —También éste estaba con él.
One of the servant-girls saw Peter as he sat by the fire and looked right at him. She said, “This man was with Jesus also.”
57 P ero él lo negó, diciendo: —Mujer, no lo conozco.
Peter lied and said, “Woman, I do not know Him.”
58 U n poco después, viéndolo otro, dijo: —Tú también eres de ellos. Y Pedro dijo: —Hombre, no lo soy.
After awhile another person saw him and said, “You are one of them also.” Peter said, “No, sir, I am not.”
59 C omo una hora después, otro afirmó, diciendo: —Verdaderamente también éste estaba con él, porque es galileo.
About an hour later another person said the same thing, “For sure, this man was with Jesus also because he is from Galilee.”
60 Y Pedro dijo: —Hombre, no sé lo que dices. Y en seguida, mientras él todavía hablaba, el gallo cantó.
But Peter said, “Sir, I do not know what you are saying.” And at once, while he was talking, a rooster crowed.
61 E ntonces, vuelto el Señor, miró a Pedro; y Pedro se acordó de la palabra del Señor, que le había dicho: «Antes que el gallo cante, me negarás tres veces.»
The Lord turned and looked at Peter. He remembered the Lord had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times that you do not know Me.”
62 Y Pedro, saliendo fuera, lloró amargamente. Jesús insultado y azotado
Peter went outside and cried with a troubled heart.
63 L os hombres que vigilaban a Jesús se burlaban de él y lo golpeaban.
Those who watched Jesus so He could not get away made fun of Him and beat Him.
64 V endándole los ojos, le golpeaban el rostro y le preguntaban, diciendo: —Profetiza, ¿quién es el que te golpeó?
They covered His eyes with a cloth and asked Him, “Tell us who hit You!”
65 Y lo insultaban diciéndole muchas otras cosas. Jesús ante el Concilio
They said many other bad things against Jesus.
66 C uando se hizo de día, se juntaron los ancianos del pueblo, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y lo llevaron al Concilio, diciendo:
When it was morning the leaders of the people and the religious leaders and the teachers of the Law got together. They took Jesus to the court of the religious leader. They said,
67 — ¿Eres tú el Cristo? Dínoslo. Les dijo: —Si os lo digo, no creeréis;
“Tell us if you are the Christ.” He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe Me.
68 y también, si os pregunto, ni me responderéis ni me soltaréis.
If I ask you something, you will not tell Me.
69 P ero desde ahora el Hijo del hombre se sentará a la diestra del poder de Dios.
From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the All-powerful God.”
70 D ijeron todos: —Luego, ¿eres tú el Hijo de Dios? Y él les dijo: —Vosotros decís que lo soy.
They all said, “Then are You the Son of God?” He said, “You say that I am.”
71 E ntonces ellos dijeron: —¿Qué más testimonio necesitamos?, porque nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de su boca.
Then they said, “What other word do we need against Him? We have heard Him say this with His own mouth.”
