1 D espués de la muerte de Acab, se rebeló Moab contra Israel.

Now Moab turned against Israel after the death of Ahab.

2 O cozías se cayó por la ventana de una sala de la casa que tenía en Samaria y quedó lastimado. Entonces envió unos mensajeros a los que dijo: «Id y consultad a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón, si he de sanar de estas mis heridas.»

Ahaziah fell through the window of his second-floor room in Samaria, and lay sick. So he sent men with news, saying to them, “Go and ask Baalzebub the god of Ekron if I will get well again from this sickness.”

3 P ero el ángel de Jehová le habló a Elías, el tisbita, diciendo: «Levántate y sube a encontrarte con los mensajeros del rey de Samaria y diles: “¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel para que vayáis a consultar a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón?”

But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Get up and go meet the men sent from the king of Samaria. Say to them, ‘Are you going to ask Baal-zebub the god of Ekron because there is no God in Israel?’

4 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: “Del lecho en que estás no te levantarás, sino que ciertamente morirás.”» Y Elías se fue.

This is what the Lord says. ‘You will not leave the bed on which you lie. You will die for sure.’” Then Elijah left.

5 C uando los mensajeros regresaron, el rey les dijo: —¿Por qué habéis regresado?

When the men returned to Ahaziah, he said to them, “Why have you returned?”

6 E llos le respondieron: —Encontramos a un hombre que nos dijo: “Id y regresad ante el rey que os envió, y decidle: ‘Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿Acaso no hay Dios en Israel, que tú envías a consultar a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón? Por tanto, del lecho en que estás no te levantarás; de cierto morirás.’”

They said, “A man came up to meet us. He said to us, ‘Go and return to the king who sent you. Tell him, “This is what the Lord says. ‘Are you asking Baal-zebub the god of Ekron because there is no God in Israel? So you will not leave the bed on which you lie. You will die for sure.’”’”

7 E ntonces el rey les preguntó: —¿Cómo era el hombre que encontrasteis y os dijo tales palabras?

Ahaziah said to them, “What kind of man was he who came to meet you and said this to you?”

8 — Uno que tenía un vestido de pelo y un cinturón de cuero ceñido a su cintura —respondieron ellos. —¡Es Elías, el tisbita! —exclamó el rey—,

They answered, “He was a man with much hair. He wore a piece of leather around his body.” Ahaziah said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”

9 y enseguida envió tras él a un capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres. Cuando él subió adonde estaba Elías, éste se encontraba sentado en la cumbre del monte. Y el capitán le dijo: —Hombre de Dios, el rey ha dicho que desciendas.

Then the king sent a captain with fifty of his men to take Elijah. The captain went up to him and saw Elijah sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’”

10 E lías respondió al capitán de cincuenta: —Si yo soy hombre de Dios, que descienda fuego del cielo y te consuma con tus cincuenta hombres. Y descendió fuego del cielo que lo consumió a él y a sus cincuenta hombres.

Elijah said to the captain of fifty men, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty men.” Then fire came down from heaven and destroyed him and his fifty men.

11 V olvió el rey a enviar tras él otro capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres, el cual le dijo: —Hombre de Dios, el rey ha dicho así: “Desciende pronto.”

So Ahaziah sent to him another captain with fifty men. The captain said to Elijah, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Be quick to come down.’”

12 E lías le respondió: —Si yo soy hombre de Dios, que descienda fuego del cielo y te consuma con tus cincuenta hombres. Y descendió fuego del cielo que lo consumió a él y a sus cincuenta hombres.

Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty men.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and destroyed him and his fifty men.

13 V olvió a enviar al tercer capitán de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres. Subió aquel tercer capitán de cincuenta, se puso de rodillas delante de Elías y le rogó: —Hombre de Dios, te ruego que mi vida y la vida de estos tus cincuenta siervos alcancen algún valor a tus ojos.

So Ahaziah sent to him a third captain with fifty men. When the third captain of fifty men went up, he came and put his face to the ground in front of Elijah. He begged him and said, “O man of God, I beg you. Let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be of great worth in your eyes.

14 Y a ha descendido fuego del cielo y ha consumido a los dos primeros capitanes de cincuenta con sus cincuenta hombres; ¡que ahora tenga algún valor mi vida a tus ojos!

Fire came down from heaven and destroyed the first two captains with their armies of fifty. But now let my life be of great worth in your eyes.”

15 E ntonces el ángel de Jehová dijo a Elías: «Desciende con él; no le tengas miedo.» Elías se levantó, descendió con él ante el rey,

The angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went with him to the king.

16 y le dijo: —Así ha dicho Jehová: “Por cuanto enviaste mensajeros a consultar a Baal-zebub, dios de Ecrón, como si no hubiera Dios en Israel cuya palabra consultar, no te levantarás del lecho en que estás, sino que de cierto morirás.”

Then Elijah said to Ahaziah, “This is what the Lord says. ‘You have sent men to ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron. Is it because there is no God in Israel to ask of His Word? So now you will not leave the bed on which you lie. You will die for sure.’”

17 Y murió conforme a la palabra de Jehová que había dicho Elías. Reinó en su lugar Joram, en el segundo año de Joram hijo de Josafat, rey de Judá, porque Ocozías no tenía hijos.

So Ahaziah died, just as the word of the Lord had said through Elijah. Because Ahaziah had no son, Jehoram his brother became king in his place, in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.

Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
