1 O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your sacred temple have they defiled; they have made Jerusalem heaps of ruins.
¶ O God, the Gentiles are come into thine inheritance; they have defiled the temple of thy holiness; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
2 T he dead bodies of Your servants they have given as food to the birds of the heavens, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.
The dead bodies of thy slaves they have given to be food unto the fowls of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
3 T heir blood they have poured out like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.
They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.
4 w e have become a taunt and reproach to our neighbors, a mocking and derision to those who are round about us.
We are reproached by our neighbours, scorned, and derided by those that are round about us.
5 H ow long, O Lord? Will You be angry forever? Shall Your jealousy burn like fire?
How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6 P our out Your wrath on the Gentile nations who do not acknowledge You, and upon the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.
¶ Pour out thy wrath upon the Gentiles that do not know thee and upon the kingdoms that do not call upon thy name.
7 F or they have devoured Jacob and laid waste his dwelling and his pasture.
For they have devoured Jacob and laid waste his dwelling place.
8 O do not remember against us the iniquities and guilt of our forefathers! Let Your compassion and tender mercy speedily come to meet us, for we are brought very low.
O remember not against us former iniquities; let thy tender mercies speedily meet us on the way, for we are very poor.
9 H elp us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name! Deliver us, forgive us, and purge away our sins for Your name’s sake.
Help us, O God, our saving health, for the honor of thy name and deliver us and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.
10 W hy should the Gentile nations say, Where is their God? Let vengeance for the blood of Your servants which is poured out be known among the nations in our sight.
Why should the Gentiles say, Where is their God? let him be known among the Gentiles in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy slaves which is shed.
11 L et the groaning and sighing of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power and Your arm spare those who are appointed to die!
Let the sighing of the prisoners come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve those that are appointed to die
12 A nd return into the bosom of our neighbors sevenfold the taunts with which they have taunted and scoffed at You, O Lord!
and render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached thee, O Lord.
13 T hen we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will show forth and publish Your praise from generation to generation.
So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: from generation to generation we will sing thy praises.
