1 T he Lord said to Moses,
¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
2 C ommand the Israelites that they put outside the camp every leper and everyone who has a discharge, and whoever is defiled by the dead.
Command the sons of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper and every one that has an issue and anyone who is defiled by the dead.
3 B oth male and female you shall put out; without the camp you shall put them, that they may not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell.
Both male and female shall ye put out; ye shall put them outside the camp; that they not defile the camp of those among whom I dwell.
4 T he Israelites did so, and put them outside the camp; as the Lord said to Moses, so the Israelites did.
And the sons of Israel did so and put them outside the camp; as the LORD spoke unto Moses, so did the sons of Israel.
5 A nd the Lord said to Moses,
And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
6 S ay to the Israelites, When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person is guilty,
Speak unto the sons of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that person is guilty,
7 T hen he shall confess the sin which he has committed, and he shall make restitution for his wrong in full, and add a fifth to it, and give it to him whom he has wronged.
then they shall confess their sin which they have done, and he shall recompense his guilt with the principal thereof and add unto it the fifth part thereof and give it unto him against whom he is guilty.
8 B ut if the man has no kinsman to whom the restitution may be made, let it be given to the Lord for the priest, besides the ram of atonement with which atonement shall be made for the offender.
But if that man has no redeemer to recompense the trespass unto, let the trespass be recompensed unto the LORD, even to the priest, beside the ram of the reconciliations, whereby reconciliation shall be made for him.
9 A nd every offering of all the holy things of the Israelites which they bring to the priest shall be his.
And every offering of all the holy things of the sons of Israel, which they bring unto the priest, shall be his.
10 A nd every man’s hallowed things shall be the priest’s; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.
And every man’s sanctified things shall be his; likewise whatever any man gives the priest, it shall be his.
11 A nd the Lord said to Moses,
¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
12 S ay to the Israelites, If any man’s wife goes astray and commits an offense of guilt against him,
Speak unto the sons of Israel and say unto them, If any man’s wife goes astray and betrays him,
13 A nd a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband and it is kept secret though she is defiled, and there is no witness against her nor was she taken in the act,
and a man lies with her carnally, and it is hid from the eyes of her husband because she contaminated herself in secret, and there is no witness against her, neither was she taken in the act;
14 A nd if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he is jealous and suspicious of his wife who has defiled herself—or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he is jealous and suspicious of his wife though she has not defiled herself—
if a spirit of jealousy should come upon him, and he becomes jealous of his wife, and she is defiled; or if a spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he becomes jealous of his wife, and she is not defiled,
15 T hen shall the man bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah of barley meal; but he shall pour no oil upon it nor put frankincense on it, for it is a cereal offering of jealousy and suspicion, a memorial offering bringing iniquity to remembrance.
then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is a present of jealousy, a present of remembrance, which brings iniquity to memory.
16 A nd the priest shall bring her near and set her before the Lord.
And the priest shall bring her near and set her before the LORD.
17 A nd the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it in the water.
Then the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take and put it into the water.
18 A nd the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and let the hair of the woman’s head hang loose, and put the meal offering of remembrance in her hands, which is the jealousy and suspicion offering. And the priest shall have in his hand the water of bitterness that brings the curse.
And the priest shall cause the woman to stand before the LORD and shall uncover the woman’s head and put the present of remembrance in her hands, which is the present of jealousy; and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that brings the curse.
19 T hen the priest shall make her take an oath, and say to the woman, If no man has lain with you and if you have not gone astray to uncleanness with another instead of your husband, then be free from any effect of this water of bitterness which brings the curse.
And the priest shall charge her by an oath and say unto the woman, If no man has lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone astray from thy husband to uncleanness, thou shalt be clean from this bitter water that brings the curse.
20 B ut if you have gone astray and you are defiled, some man having lain with you beside your husband,
But if thou hast gone astray from thy husband and hast defiled thyself and some man has placed seed in thee other than thine husband,
21 T hen the priest shall make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman, The Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people when the Lord makes your thigh fall away and your body swell.
(the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing) and the priest shall say unto the woman, Let the LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people when the LORD makes thy thigh to fail and thy belly to swell,
22 M ay this water that brings the curse go into your bowels and make your body swell and your thigh fall away. And the woman shall say, So let it be, so let it be.
and this water that causes the curse shall go into thy bowels and cause thy belly to swell and thy thigh to fail. And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.
23 T he priest shall then write these curses in a book and shall wash them off into the water of bitterness;
And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water;
24 A nd he shall cause the woman to drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her bitterly.
and he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her as bitter.
25 T hen the priest shall take the cereal offering of jealousy and suspicion out of the woman’s hand and shall wave the offering before the Lord and offer it upon the altar.
Then the priest shall take the present of jealousy out of the woman’s hand and shall wave the offering before the LORD and offer it before the altar.
26 A nd the priest shall take a handful of the cereal offering as the memorial portion of it and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
And the priest shall take a handful of the present, in memory of her, and incense it upon the altar and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.
27 A nd when he has made her drink the water, then if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against her husband, the curse water which she drank shall be bitterness and cause her body to swell and her thigh to fall away, and the woman shall be a curse among her people.
He shall give her, therefore, the water to drink, and it shall come to pass, that if she is defiled and has betrayed her husband, that the water that works the curse shall enter into her in bitterness, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall fail; and that woman shall be a curse among her people.
28 B ut if the woman is not defiled and is clean, then she shall be free and be able to have children.
But if the woman is not defiled, but is clean; then she shall be free and shall conceive seed.
29 T his is the law of jealousy and suspicion when a wife goes aside to another instead of her husband and is defiled,
This is the law of jealousies when a woman goes astray, being under the power of her husband, and is defiled;
30 O r when the spirit of jealousy and suspicion comes upon a man and he is jealous and suspicious of his wife; then shall he set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute on her all this law.
or of the husband upon whom a spirit of jealousy comes, and he is jealous over his wife; he shall then present the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute in her all this law.
31 T he shall be free from iniquity and guilt, and that woman shall bear her iniquity.
And that man shall be free from iniquity, and the woman shall bear her iniquity.
