1 L ooking up, saw the rich people putting their gifts into the treasury.
¶ And he looked up and saw the rich casting their gifts into the treasury.
2 A nd He saw also a poor widow putting in two mites (copper coins).
And he saw also a certain poor widow casting two mites in there.
3 A nd He said, Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them;
And he said, Of a truth I say unto you that this poor widow has cast in more than they all;
4 F or they all gave out of their abundance (their surplus); but she has contributed out of her lack and her want, putting in all that she had on which to live.
for all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God, but she out of her poverty has cast in all the living that she had.
5 A nd as some were saying of the temple that it was decorated with handsome (shapely and magnificent) stones and consecrated offerings '> laid up to be kept], He said,
¶ And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
6 A s for all this that you look at, the time will come when there shall not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.
As for these things which ye behold, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.
7 A nd they asked Him, Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when this is about to occur?
And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall begin to come to pass?
8 A nd He said, Be on your guard and be careful that you are not led astray; for many will come in My name '> appropriating to themselves the name Messiah which belongs to Me], saying, I am He! and, The time is at hand! Do not go out after them.
Then he said, Take heed that ye not be deceived, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am; and the time draws near; therefore, go ye not after them.
9 A nd when you hear of wars and insurrections (disturbances, disorder, and confusion), do not become alarmed and panic-stricken and terrified; for all this must take place first, but the end will not immediately.
But when ye shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pass, but the end is not yet.
10 T hen He told them, Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
Then he said unto them, Gentiles shall rise against Gentiles, and kingdom against kingdom;
11 T here will be mighty and violent earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences (plagues: malignant and contagious or infectious epidemic diseases which are deadly and devastating); and there will be sights of terror and great signs from heaven.
and there shall be great earthquakes in different places and famines and pestilences, and there shall be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.
12 B ut previous to all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, turning you over to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be led away before kings and governors for My name’s sake.
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, being brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.
13 T his will be a time (an opportunity) for you to bear testimony.
And it shall turn out to you for a testimony.
14 R esolve and settle it in your minds not to meditate and prepare beforehand how you are to make your defense and how you will answer.
Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate before what ye shall answer;
15 F or I will give you a mouth and such utterance and wisdom that all of your foes combined will be unable to stand against or refute.
for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
16 Y ou will be delivered up and betrayed even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and of you they will put to death.
And ye shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends, and some of you they shall cause to be put to death.
17 A nd you will be hated (despised) by everyone because My name and for its sake.
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.
18 B ut not a hair of your head shall perish.
But not a hair of your head shall perish.
19 B y your steadfastness and patient endurance you shall win the true life of your souls.
In your patience ye shall possess your souls.
20 B ut when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know and understand that its desolation has come near.
¶ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is near.
21 T hen let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside get out of it, and let not those who are out in the country come into it;
Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst of it depart out, and let not those that are in the country enter thereinto.
22 F or those are days of vengeance, that all things that are written may be fulfilled.
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 A las for those who are pregnant and for those who have babies which they are nursing in those days! For great misery and anguish and distress shall be upon the land and indignation and punishment and retribution upon this people.
But woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.
24 T hey will fall by the mouth and the edge of the sword and will be led away as captives to and among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled (completed).
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
25 A nd there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth distress (trouble and anguish) of nations in bewilderment and perplexity '> without resources, left wanting, embarrassed, in doubt, not knowing which way to turn] at the roaring ( the echo) of the tossing of the sea,
Then there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars, and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 M en swooning away or expiring with fear and dread and apprehension and expectation of the things that are coming on the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken and caused to totter.
men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 A nd then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great (transcendent and overwhelming) power and glory (majesty and splendor).
And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 N ow when these things begin to occur, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption (deliverance) is drawing near.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draws near.
29 A nd He told them a parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees;
¶ And he spoke unto them a parable: Behold the fig tree and all the trees;
30 W hen they put forth their buds and come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and perceive and know that summer is already near.
when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now near at hand.
31 E ven so, when you see these things taking place, understand and know that the kingdom of God is at hand.
So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is near at hand.
32 T ruly I tell you, this generation ( those living at that definite period of time) will not perish and pass away until all has taken place.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away until all is fulfilled.
33 T he sky and the earth ( the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
34 B ut take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to '> business of] this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose;
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 F or it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth.
For as a snare it shall come on all those that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 K eep awake then and watch at all times, praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.
Watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of man.
37 N ow in the daytime Jesus was teaching in '> the porches and courts of] the temple, but at night He would go out and stay on the mount called Olivet.
And in the daytime he was teaching in the temple, and at night he went out and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
38 A nd early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple '> porches or courts] to listen to Him.
And all the people came unto him early in the morning to hear him in the temple.
