1 P aul, Silvanus (Silas), and Timothy, to the church (assembly) of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One):
¶ Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, unto the congregation of the Thessalonians in God our Father and in our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 G race (unmerited favor) be to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Grace unto you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 W e ought and indeed are obligated to give thanks always to God for you, brethren, as is fitting, because your faith is growing exceedingly and the love of every one of you each toward the others is increasing and abounds.
We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,
4 A nd this is a cause of our mentioning you with pride among the churches (assemblies) of God for your steadfastness (your unflinching endurance and patience) and your firm faith in the midst of all the persecutions and crushing distresses and afflictions under which you are holding up.
so that we ourselves glory in you in the congregations of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure and
5 T his is positive proof of the just and right judgment of God to the end that you may be deemed deserving of His kingdom, for the sake of which you are also suffering.
¶ in testimony of the just judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer,
6 s ince it is a righteous thing with God to repay with distress and affliction those who distress and afflict you,
seeing it is a just thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you
7 A nd to '> recompense] you who are so distressed and afflicted relief and rest along with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in a flame of fire,
and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power,
8 T o deal out retribution (chastisement and vengeance) upon those who do not know or perceive or become acquainted with God, and who ignore and refuse to obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,
9 S uch people will pay the penalty and suffer the punishment of everlasting ruin (destruction and perdition) and eternal exclusion and banishment from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
who shall be punished with eternal destruction by the presence of the Lord and by the glory of his power,
10 W hen He comes to be glorified in His saints, and be marveled at and admired in all who have believed, because our witnessing among you was confidently accepted and believed.
when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
11 W ith this in view we constantly pray for you, that our God may deem and count you worthy of calling and every gracious purpose of goodness, and with power may complete in every particular work of faith (faith which is that leaning of the whole human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness).
¶ Therefore in this manner we pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of his calling and fill each will with goodness and the work of faith with power
12 T hus may the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified and become more glorious through and in you, and may you in Him according to the grace (favor and blessing) of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be clarified in you, and ye in him, by the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
