1 I n the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and the skirts of His train filled the temple.

¶ In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.

2 A bove Him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two covered his face, and with two covered his feet, and with two flew.

Above it stood the seraphims; each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

3 A nd one cried to another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!

And one cried out unto another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of the hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.

4 A nd the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 T hen said I, Woe is me! For I am undone and ruined, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!

¶ Then I said, Woe is me! for I am dead because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of the hosts.

6 T hen flew one of the seraphim to me, having a live coal in his hand which he had taken with tongs from off the altar;

Then one of the seraphim flew unto me, having a live coal in his hand which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:

7 A nd with it he touched my mouth and said, Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity and guilt are taken away, and your sin is completely atoned for and forgiven.

And he laid it upon my mouth and said, Behold, this has touched thy lips; and it shall take away thy guilt, and thy sin shall be cleansed.

8 A lso I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

After this, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I answered, Here am I; send me.

9 A nd He said, Go and tell this people, Hear and hear continually, but understand not; and see and see continually, but do not apprehend with your mind.

¶ Then he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand; and see indeed, but do not perceive.

10 M ake the heart of this people fat; and make their ears heavy and shut their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and turn again and be healed.

Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.

11 T hen said I, Lord, how long? And He answered, Until cities lie waste without inhabitant and houses without man, and the land is utterly desolate,

And I said, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities are wasted without inhabitant and not a man in the houses, and the land is turned into desert,

12 A nd the Lord removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.

until the LORD has removed men far away, and there is great solitude in the midst of the land.

13 A nd though a tenth remain in the land, it will be for their destruction like a terebinth tree or like an oak whose stump and substance remain when they are felled or have cast their leaves. The holy seed is the stump and substance.

But yet in it shall remain a tenth, and it shall return and shall be razed; as the teil tree and as the oak, of which the stump remains alive when they are cut down, likewise in these his stump shall remain holy seed.
