1 В осемнадесетата година от царуването на Еровоама, Авия се възцари над Юда,

In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

2 и царува три години в Ерусалим. Името на майка му бе Михаия, дъщеря на Уриила от Гавая. И имаше война между Авия и Еровоама.

He reigned three years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Michaiah, the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 И Авия се опълчи за бой с войска от силни войници, <на брой> четиристотин хиляди отборни мъже; а Еровоам се опълчи за бой против него с осемстотин хиляди отборни мъже, силни и храбри.

And Abijah began the war with an army of men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty men of valour.

4 Т огава Авия застана на хълма Семараим, който е в Ефремовата хълмиста земя, и каза: Слушайте ме, Еровоаме и целий Израилю.

And Abijah stood up on the top of mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, Jeroboam, and all Israel!

5 Н е трябва ли да знаете, че Господ Израилевият Бог, даде за винаги на Давида да царува над Израиля, той и потомците му, чрез завет със сол?

Ought ye not to know that Jehovah the God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, to him and to his sons a covenant of salt?

6 П ри все това, Еровоам, Наватовият син, слуга на Давидовия син Соломона, стана и се повдигна против господаря си;

But Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

7 и при него се събраха нищожни и лоши човеци, та се засилиха против Ровоама, Соломоновия син, когато Ровоам бе млад и с крехко сърце и не можеше да им противостои.

And vain men, sons of Belial, gathered to him and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was young and faint-hearted, and did not shew himself strong against them.

8 И сега вие замислювате да се противите на Господното царство, което е в ръцете на Давидовите потомци, защото сте голямо множество, и между вас са златните телета, които Еровоам ви е направил за богове.

And now ye think to shew yourselves strong against the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and ye have with you the golden calves that Jeroboam made you for gods.

9 Н е изпъдихте ли Господните свещеници, Аароновите потомци и левитите, и не направихте ли си жреци, както правят людете на <другите> земи, така щото всеки, който иде да се освети с теле и седем овена, той може да стане жрец на <ония, които> не са богове?

Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests as the peoples of the lands? whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, he becomes a priest of what is not God.

10 А колкото за нас, Иеова е нашият Бог, и ние не Го оставяме; и <ние имаме> за свещеници, които служат Господу, Ааронови потомци и левитите на службата им,

But as for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests that serve Jehovah are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites are at their work:

11 к оито всяка заран и всяка вечер горят пред Господа всеизгаряния и благоуханен темян, и <нареждат> присътствени хлябове върху чисто - <златната> трапеза, и златния светилник и светилата му, за да гори всяка вечер; защото ние пазим заръчаното от Господа нашия Бог; вие обаче Го оставихте.

and they burn to Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the loaves also are set in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but ye have forsaken him.

12 И , ето, с нас е Бог начело, и свещениците Му с гръмливи тръби, за да свирят тревога против вас. Чада на Израиля, не воювайте против Господа Бога на бащите си, защото няма да успеете.

And behold, we have God with us at our head, and his priests, and the loud-sounding trumpets to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

13 О баче, Еровоам накара една засада да обиколи и да иде зад тях, така щото те бяха пред Юдовите <мъже>, а засадата зад тях.

But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; and they were before Judah, and the ambush behind them.

14 И когато Юда назърна надире, ето, боят бе и отпреде им и отзаде; затова извикаха към Господа, и свещениците засвириха с тръбите.

And Judah looked back, and behold, they had the battle in front and behind; and they cried to Jehovah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 Т огава Юдовите мъже нададоха вик; и като извикаха Юдовите мъже, Бог порази Еровоама и целия Израил пред Авия и Юда.

And the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 И зраилтяните бягаха пред Юда; и Бог ги предаде в ръката им,

And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

17 т ака щото Авия и неговите люде им нанесоха голямо поражение, и от Израиля паднаха убити петстотин хиляди отборни мъже.

And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter; and there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

18 Т ака в онова време израилтяните се смириха; а юдейците превъзмогнаха, понеже уповаха на Господа Бога на бащите си.

And the children of Israel were humbled at that time, and the children of Judah were strengthened, because they relied upon Jehovah the God of their fathers.

19 И Авия преследва Еровоама и му отне градовете: Ветил и селата му, Есана и селата му, Ефрон и селата му.

And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its dependent villages, and Jeshanah with its dependent villages, and Ephron with its dependent villages.

20 И в дните на Авия, Еровоам не си възвърна вече силата; и Господ го порази, та умря.

And Jeroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

21 Н о Авия се засили и взе четиринадесет жени, и роди двадесет и два сина и шестнадесет дъщери.

But Abijah strengthened himself, and took fourteen wives, and begot twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

22 А останалите дела на Авия, и постъпките му, и изреченията му са написани в повестите на пророк Идо.

And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways and his sayings, are written in the treatise of the prophet Iddo.
