1 Thou shalt not see thy brother’s ox or his sheep go astray and hide thyself from them; thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.

«لا يَنبَغِي أنْ تَرَى ثَورَ صاحِبَكَ أوْ خَرُوفَهُ ضالّاً وَتَتَجاهَلهُ، بَلْ يَنْبَغِي أنْ تُعِيدَهُ إلَيهِ.

2 A nd even if thy brother is not kin unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seeks after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

وَإنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ صاحِبُهُ يَسكُنُ قَرِيباً مِنكَ وَأنتَ لا تَعرِفُهُ، فَأحْضِرْهُ إلَى بَيتِكَ وَاحتَفِظْ بِهِ حَتَّى يَأتِيَ صاحِبُهُ باحِثاً عَنهُ. حِينَئِذٍ تُعِيدُهُ إليهِ.

3 I n like manner shalt thou do with his ass, and so shalt thou do with his clothing; and with any lost thing of thy brother’s, which he has lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise; thou may not draw back from this.

وَهَكَذا تَفعَلُ إنْ وَجَدْتَ حِمارَ صاحِبِكَ أوْ ثِيابَهُ أوْ أيَّ شَيءٍ ضاعَ مِنهُ. فَلا تَتَجاهَلِ الأمرَ.

4 T hou shalt not see thy brother’s ass or his ox fallen down by the way and hide thyself from them; thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.

«إذا رَأيتَ حِمارَ صاحِبَكَ أوْ ثَورَهُ راقِداً فِي الطَّرِيقِ فَلا تَتَجاهَلهُ، بَلْ ساعِدْ صاحِبَهُ عَلَى رَفعِهِ.

5 The woman shall not wear that which pertains unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

«لا يَنبَغِي أنْ تَرتَدِيَ المَرأةُ ثِيابَ رَجُلٍ، وَلا الرَّجُلُ ثِيابَ امْرأةٍ. مَنْ يَفعَلُ هَذا يَمْقُتُهُ إلَهُكَ.

6 I f a bird’s nest is encountered before thee in the way in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting upon the young or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the mother with the young.

«إنْ وَجَدْتَ وَأنتَ تَمشِي عُشَّ طَيرٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ أوْ عَلَى الأرْضِ وَفِيهِ فِراخٌ أوْ بَيضٌ، وَالأُمُّ تَرقُدُ عَلَى صِغارِها أوْ عَلَى البَيضِ، فَلا تَأخُذِ الأُمَّ مَعَ الفِراخِ،

7 B ut thou shalt let the mother go and take the young for thyself, that it may be well with thee and that thou may prolong thy days.

بَلِ اسْمَحْ لِلأُمَّ بِالذَّهابِ، ثُمَّ خُذِ الفِراخَ، لِكَي يَكُونَ لَكَ خَيرٌ وَتَعِيشَ زَمَناً طَوِيلاً.

8 W hen thou shall build a new house, then thou shalt make a parapet for thy roof that thou not bring blood upon thine house if anyone should fall from there.

«إذا بَنَيتَ بَيتاً جَدِيداً، فابْنِ سُوراً حَولَ سَطحِهِ، فَلا تُحْسَبُ مُذنِباً إنْ سَقَطَ مِنْ عَلَى سَطحِ بَيتِكَ وَماتَ.

9 T hou shalt not sow thy vineyard with mixture lest the fullness of thy seed which thou hast sown and the fruit of thy vineyard be defiled.

«لا تَزرَعْ كَرْمَ العِنَبِ بِالحُبُوبِ، لِأنَّكَ تَخْسَرُ بَذَلِكَ غَلَّةَ العِنَبِ وَمَحْصُولَ الحُبُوبِ كِلَيهِما.

10 T hou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

«لا تَحرُثْ عَلَى ثَورٍ وَحِمارٍ مَعاً.

11 T hou shalt not wear a garment of mixture, as of woolen and linen together.

«لا تَرتَدِي ثِياباً مِنسُوجَةً مِنَ الصُّوفِ وَالكِتّانِ مَعاً.

12 T hou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy covering with which thou dost cover thyself.

«وَضَعْ أهداباً عَلَى الزَّوايا الأربَعَةِ لِثَوبِكَ الَّذِي تَتَغَطَّى بِهِ. شَرائِعُ لَلزَّواج

13 When any man takes a wife and after having gone in unto her, hates her

«إنْ تَزَوَّجَ رَجُلٌ امْرأةً وَعاشَرَها، ثُمَّ كَرِهَها،

14 a nd gives occasions of speech against her and brings up an evil name upon her and says, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a virgin,

وَاتَّهَمَها بِسُوءِ السُّلُوكِ، وَذَمَّها فَقالَ: ‹تَزَوَّجتُ هَذِهِ الفَتاةَ، وَلَكِنْ حِينَ عاشَرْتُها، وَجَدْتُ أنَّها لَيسَتْ عَذراءَ!›

15 t hen shall the father of the damsel and her mother take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel’s virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate.

فَإنَّ عَلَى أبِيها وَأُمِّها أنْ يُحضِرا دَلِيلاً عَلَى عُذْريَّتِها إلَى شُيُوخِ المَدِينَةِ عِندَ البَوّابَةِ.

16 A nd the damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hates her;

وَيَقُولُ أبُو الفَتاةِ لِلشُّيُوخِ: ‹أعطَيتُ ابْنَتِي لِهَذا الرَّجُلِ زَوجَةً لَهُ، لَكِنَّهُ كَرِهَها.

17 a nd, behold, he has given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a virgin; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

وَقَدِ اتَّهَمَها بِسُوءِ السُّلُوكِ فَقالَ: وَجَدتُ أنَّ ابْنَتَكَ لَيسَتْ عَذراءَ. وَلَكِنْ هَذا هُوَ دَلِيلُ عُذْريَّتِها.› ثُمَّ يَبسُطُ الثَّوبَ أمامَ شُيُوخِ المَدِينَةِ.

18 T hen the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;

حِينَئِذٍ، يَأخُذُ شُيُوخُ تِلكَ المَدِينَةِ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلَ وَيُؤَدِّبُوهُ.

19 a nd they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver and give them unto the father of the damsel because he has brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

وَيَفْرِضُونَ عَلَيهِ غَرامَةً مِقدارُها مِئَةُ مِثْقالٍ مِنَ الفِضَّةِ، يُعطُونَها لِأبِي الفَتاةِ، لِأنَّ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلَ شَوَّهَ سُمعَةَ عَذراءٍ فِي إسْرائِيلَ. وَسَتَبقَى زَوجَةً لَهُ، وَلَنْ يَستَطِيعَ أنْ يُطَلِّقَها مَدَى حَياتِهِ.

20 B ut if this thing is true and the tokens of virginity are not found for the damsel,

«وَلَكِنْ إنْ كانَتِ التُّهمَةُ صَحِيحَةً، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ دَلِيلٌ عَلَى عُذْرِيَّةِ الفَتاةِ،

21 t hen they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die because she has wrought folly in Israel, to fornicate in her father’s house; so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

فَليُؤتَ بِها إلَى بابِ بَيتِ أبِيها. حَيثُ يَرجُمُها رِجالُ المَدِينَةِ حَتَّى المَوتِ، لِأنَّها ارتَكَبَتْ عَمَلاً مُشِيناً فِي إسْرائِيلَ، إذْ أقامَتْ عَلاقَةً جِنسيَّةً قَبلَ الزَّواجِ، وَهِيَ فِي بَيتِ أبِيها. وَهَكَذا تُزِيلُونَ الشَّرَّ مِنْ وَسَطِ شَعبِكُمْ. عقوباتُ الزِّنَى وَالاغتِصاب

22 I f a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman and the woman; so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

«إنْ عاشَرَ رَجُلٌ زَوجَةَ رَجُلٍ آخَرَ، تَقتُلُونَهُما كِلَيهِما: الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي عاشَرَ المَرأةَ، وَالمَرأةَ نَفْسَها. هَكَذا تُزِيلُونَ الشَّرَّ مِنْ إسْرائِيلَ.

23 W hen a damsel that is a virgin is betrothed unto a husband and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,

«إنْ وَجَدَ رَجُلٌ امْرأةً مَخطُوبَةً فِي المَدِينَةِ وَعاشَرَها،

24 t hen ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones, and they shall die; the damsel because she did not cry out, being in the city, and the man because he has humbled his neighbour’s wife; so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

يَنبَغِي أنْ تُحضِرُوهُما مَعاً إلَى بَوّابَةِ المَدِينَةِ، وَأنْ تَرجُمُوهُما حَتَّى المَوتِ. تَرجُمُونَ الفَتاةَ لِأنَّها لَمْ تَصْرُخْ لِطَلَبِ المُساعَدَةِ مِنْ أهلِ المَدِينَةِ، وَتَرجُمُونَ الرَّجُلَ لِأنَّهُ أهانَ زَوجَةَ رَجُلٍ آخَرَ. وَهَكَذا تُزِيلُونَ الشَّرَّ مِنْ وَسَطِكُمْ.

25 B ut if the man found a betrothed damsel in the field and the man forced her and lay with her; then only the man that lay with her shall die;

«لَكِنْ إنْ وَجَدَ الرَّجُلُ الفَتاةَ المَخطُوبَةَ فِي الخَلاءِ، وَاغتَصَبَها، فَإنَّ الرَّجُلَ الَّذِي اضطَجَعَ مَعَها هُوَ وَحْدَهُ الَّذِي يَنبَغي أنْ يَمُوتَ.

26 b ut unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbour and murders him, even so is this matter.

فَلا تُعاقِبُوا الفَتاةَ لِأنَّها لَمْ تَرتَكِبْ خَطِيَّةً تَستَحِقُّ المَوتَ. فَهَذِهِ الحالَةُ تُشبِهُ حالَةَ رَجُلٍ يُمسِكُ بِآخَرَ وَيَقتُلُهُ،

27 F or he found her in the field and the betrothed damsel cried out, and there was no one to save her.

إذْ قَدْ وَجَدَها فِي الخَلاءِ. وَرُبَّما تَكُونُ قَدْ صَرَخَتْ طَلَباً لِلمُساعَدَةِ، وَلَكِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ أحَدٌ لِيُساعِدَها.

28 W hen a man finds a damsel that is a virgin who is not betrothed and lays hold on her and lies with her, and they are found,

«وَإنْ وَجَدَ رَجُلٌ فَتاةً عَذراءَ غَيرَ مَخطُوبَةٍ، وَأجبَرَها عَلَى مُعاشَرَتِهِ، ثُمَّ اكتُشِفا،

29 t hen the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver and she shall be his wife; because he has humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

فَإنَّ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي اغْتَصَبَها أنْ يُعطِيَ أبا الفَتاةِ خَمْسِينَ مِثْقالاً مِنَ الفِضَّةِ. وَأمّا هِيَ، فَتُصبِحُ زَوجَةً لَهُ. وَلِأنَّهُ أذَلَّها، لَنْ يَستَطِيعَ أنْ يُطَلِّقَها.

30 A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor uncover his father’s skirt.

«لا يَجُوزُ لِأحَدٍ أنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ زَوجَةَ أبِيهِ، لِأنَّ هَذا سَيُعِيبُ أباهُ.
