1 ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD showed unto me, and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter hay; and, behold that the latter hay grew after the king’s reapings.

هَذا ما أراهُ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ لِي: كانَ يَجبِلُ سِرباً مِنَ الجَرادِ حِينَ بَدَأ المَحصُولُ المُتَأخِّرُ يَظْهَرُ – بَعْدَ حَصادِ المَحصُولِ الأوَّلِ.

2 A nd it came to pass that when they had come to an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee; who shall lift up Jacob? for he is small.

وَحِينَ انتَهَى الجَرادُ مِنِ التِهامِ عُشبِ الأرْضِ، قُلْتُ: «أيُّها الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ ، أرجُوكَ اغْفِرْ! كَيفَ لِيَعقُوبَ أنْ يَحتَمِلَ هَذا، فَهُوَ صَغِيرٌ جِدّاً؟»

3 T he LORD repented of this; It shall not be, said the LORD.

حِينَئِذٍ، عَدَلَ اللهُ عَنْ هَذا الأمرِ، وَقالَ: «لَنْ تَتِمَّ هَذِهِ الرُّؤيا!» رُؤيا النّار

4 A fterward the Lord GOD showed me this: And, behold, the Lord GOD called to judge by fire, and it devoured the great deep and ate up the inheritance.

هَذا ما أراهُ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ لِي: كانَ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ يَدعُو ناراً تَنصَبُّ مِنَ السَّماءِ، فَالتَهَمتِ النّارُ البَحرَ العَظِيمَ، وَصارَتْ تَلتَهِمُ الأرْضَ.

5 T hen said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee; who shall raise up Jacob? for he is small.

حِينَئِذٍ، قُلْتُ: «أيُّها الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ ، أتَوَسَّلُ إلَيكَ، أوقِفْ هَذا! كَيفَ لِشَعبِكَ أنْ يَحتَمِلَ هَذا، وَهُوَ صَغِيرٌ جِدّاً؟»

6 T he LORD repented of this: This also shall not be, said the Lord GOD.

حِينَئِذٍ، عَدَلَ اللهُ عَنْ هَذا الأمرِ، وَقالَ: «لَنْ تَتِمَّ هَذِهِ الرُّؤيا!» رُؤيا المِيزان

7 T hus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

هَذا ما أراهُ الرَّبُّ لِي: كانَ الرَّبُّ يَقِفُ بِجِوارِ سُورٍ مَبنِيٍّ عَلَى المِيزانِ، وَكانَ فِي يَدِهِ مِيزانٌ.

8 A nd the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass over them any more:

حِينَئِذٍ، قالَ اللهُ لِي: «يا عامُوسُ، ماذا تَرَى؟» فَقُلْتُ: «مِيزاناً.» فَقالَ لِي: «سَأضَعُ مِيزاناً وَسَطَ شَعبِي إسْرائِيلَ، وَلَنْ أعُودَ أغُضَّ النَّظَرَ عَنْ خَطاياهُمْ.

9 A nd the altars of Isaac shall be destroyed, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise upon the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

سَتُدَمَّرُ مُرتَفَعاتُ إسْحاقَ، وَمُقَدَّساتُ إسْرائِيلَ سَتُخَرَبُ، وَسَأُهاجِمُ عائِلَةَ يَرُبْعامَ بِالسَّيفِ وَالحَرْبِ.» عامُوسُ وَأمَصْيا

10 ¶ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words.

وَأرسَلَ أمَصْيا، وَهُوَ كاهِنٌ مِنْ كَهَنَةِ بَيتِ إيلَ، هَذِهِ الرِّسالَةَ إلَى المَلِكِ يَرُبْعامَ مَلِكِ إسْرائِيلَ: «عامُوسُ يتَآمَرُ عَلَيكَ فِي وَسَطِ إسْرائِيلَ. وَالبَلَدُ لا يَحتَمِل كَلامَهُ.

11 F or thus hath Amos said, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

فَهَذا هُوَ ما يَقُولُهُ عامُوسُ: ‹سَيَمُوتُ يَرُبْعامُ بِالسَّيفِ، وَسَيُسبَى إسْرائِيلُ بَعِيداً عَنْ أرْضِهِ.›»

12 A nd Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and eat thy bread there, and prophesy there:

وَقالَ أمَصْيا لِعامُوسَ: «يا رائِي، اذْهَبِ اهرُبْ إلَى أرْضِ يَهُوذا. كُلْ طَعامَكَ وَتَنَبَّأ هُناكَ.

13 b ut do not prophesy any more in Bethel: for it is the king’s sanctuary, and the head of the kingdom.

لَكِن لا تَتَنَبَّأ ثانِيَةً فِي بَيتِ إيلَ لِأنَّ بَيتَ إيلَ هِيَ مَكانٌ مُخَصَّصٌ لِلمَلِكِ، وَمَقَرُّ لِلهَيكَلِ المَلَكِيِّ.»

14 T hen Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, neither am I a prophet’s son, but I am a herdsman and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:

فَأجابَ عامُوسُ أمَصْيا: «لَمْ أكُنْ نَبِيّاً، وَلا عُضواً فِي مَجمُوعَةِ أنبِياءٍ. فَقَدْ كُنتُ راعِياً وَقاطِفَ جُمَّيْزٍ.

15 a nd the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ أخَذَنِي مِنْ وَراءِ القَطِيعِ وَقالَ لِي: ‹اذْهَبْ وَتَنَبَّأ ضِدَّ شَعبِي إسْرائِيلَ.›

16 N ow therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Do not prophesy against Israel and do not drop thy word against the house of Isaac.

وَالآنَ استَمِعْ إلَى رِسالَةِ اللهِ. أنتَ تَقُولُ: ‹لا تَتَنَبَّأ ضِدَّ إسْرائِيلَ، وَلا تَتَكَلَّمْ عَلَى بَيتِ إسْحاقَ.›

17 T herefore thus hath the LORD said; Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by lots; and thou shalt die in a polluted land; and Israel shall surely go into captivity from his land.

«لِذَلِكَ هَذا هُوَ ما يَقُولُهُ اللهُ: «‹سَتَصِيرُ زَوجَتُكَ عاهِرَةً فِي المَدِينَةِ. وَسَيُقتَلُ أبناؤُكَ بِالسَّيفِ. وَسَيَقِيسُ الآخَرُونَ أرْضَكَ وَيُقَتَسِمُونَها. وَأنتَ سَتَمُوتُ فِي أرْضٍ نَجِسَةٍ، وَسَيُسبَى بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ بَعِيداً عَنْ أرْضِهِمْ.›»
