1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But a grievous word stirreth up anger.

回 答 柔 和 ， 使 怒 消 退 ； 言 語 暴 戾 ， 觸 動 怒 氣 。

2 T he tongue of the wise uttereth knowledge aright; But the mouth of fools poureth out folly.

智 慧 人 的 舌 善 發 知 識 ； 愚 昧 人 的 口 吐 出 愚 昧 。

3 T he eyes of Jehovah are in every place, Keeping watch upon the evil and the good.

耶 和 華 的 眼 目 無 處 不 在 ； 惡 人 善 人 ， 他 都 鑒 察 。

4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit.

溫 良 的 舌 是 生 命 樹 ； 乖 謬 的 嘴 使 人 心 碎 。

5 A fool despiseth his father's correction; But he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.

愚 妄 人 藐 視 父 親 的 管 教 ； 領 受 責 備 的 ， 得 著 見 識 。

6 I n the house of the righteous is much treasure; But in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

義 人 家 中 多 有 財 寶 ； 惡 人 得 利 反 受 擾 害 。

7 T he lips of the wise disperse knowledge; But the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

智 慧 人 的 嘴 播 揚 知 識 ； 愚 昧 人 的 心 並 不 如 此 。

8 T he sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But the prayer of the upright is his delight.

惡 人 獻 祭 ， 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 ； 正 直 人 祈 禱 ， 為 他 所 喜 悅 。

9 T he way of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

惡 人 的 道 路 ， 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 ； 追 求 公 義 的 ， 為 他 所 喜 愛 。

10 T here is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way; And he that hateth reproof shall die.

捨 棄 正 路 的 ， 必 受 嚴 刑 ； 恨 惡 責 備 的 ， 必 致 死 亡 。

11 S heol and Abaddon are before Jehovah: How much more then the hearts of the children of men!

陰 間 和 滅 亡 尚 在 耶 和 華 眼 前 ， 何 況 世 人 的 心 呢 ？

12 A scoffer loveth not to be reproved; He will not go unto the wise.

褻 慢 人 不 愛 受 責 備 ； 他 也 不 就 近 智 慧 人 。

13 A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

心 中 喜 樂 ， 面 帶 笑 容 ； 心 裡 憂 愁 ， 靈 被 損 傷 。

14 T he heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.

聰 明 人 心 求 知 識 ； 愚 昧 人 口 吃 愚 昧 。

15 A ll the days of the afflicted are evil; But he that is of a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.

困 苦 人 的 日 子 都 是 愁 苦 ； 心 中 歡 暢 的 ， 常 享 豐 筵 。

16 B etter is little, with the fear of Jehovah, Than great treasure and trouble therewith.

少 有 財 寶 ， 敬 畏 耶 和 華 ， 強 如 多 有 財 寶 ， 煩 亂 不 安 。

17 B etter is a dinner of herbs, where love is, Than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

吃 素 菜 ， 彼 此 相 愛 ， 強 如 吃 肥 牛 ， 彼 此 相 恨 。

18 A wrathful man stirreth up contention; But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

暴 怒 的 人 挑 啟 爭 端 ； 忍 怒 的 人 止 息 紛 爭 。

19 T he way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; But the path of the upright is made a highway.

懶 惰 人 的 道 像 荊 棘 的 籬 笆 ； 正 直 人 的 路 是 平 坦 的 大 道 。

20 A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.

智 慧 子 使 父 親 喜 樂 ； 愚 昧 人 藐 視 母 親 。

21 F olly is joy to him that is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding maketh straight his going.

無 知 的 人 以 愚 妄 為 樂 ； 聰 明 的 人 按 正 直 而 行 。

22 W here there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed; But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

不 先 商 議 ， 所 謀 無 效 ； 謀 士 眾 多 ， 所 謀 乃 成 。

23 A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good is it!

口 善 應 對 ， 自 覺 喜 樂 ； 話 合 其 時 ， 何 等 美 好 。

24 T o the wise the way of life goeth upward, That he may depart from Sheol beneath.

智 慧 人 從 生 命 的 道 上 升 ， 使 他 遠 離 在 下 的 陰 間 。

25 J ehovah will root up the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.

耶 和 華 必 拆 毀 驕 傲 人 的 家 ， 卻 要 立 定 寡 婦 的 地 界 。

26 E vil devices are an abomination to Jehovah; But pleasant words are pure.

惡 謀 為 耶 和 華 所 憎 惡 ； 良 言 乃 為 純 淨 。

27 H e that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he that hateth bribes shall live.

貪 戀 財 利 的 ， 擾 害 己 家 ； 恨 惡 賄 賂 的 ， 必 得 存 活 。

28 T he heart of the righteous studieth to answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

義 人 的 心 ， 思 量 如 何 回 答 ； 惡 人 的 口 吐 出 惡 言 。

29 J ehovah is far from the wicked; But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

耶 和 華 遠 離 惡 人 ， 卻 聽 義 人 的 禱 告 。

30 T he light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart; And good tidings make the bones fat.

眼 有 光 ， 使 心 喜 樂 ； 好 信 息 ， 使 骨 滋 潤 。

31 T he ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall abide among the wise.

聽 從 生 命 責 備 的 ， 必 常 在 智 慧 人 中 。

32 H e that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul; But he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.

棄 絕 管 教 的 ， 輕 看 自 己 的 生 命 ； 聽 從 責 備 的 ， 卻 得 智 慧 。

33 T he fear of Jehovah is the instruction of wisdom; And before honor goeth humility.

敬 畏 耶 和 華 是 智 慧 的 訓 誨 ； 尊 榮 以 前 ， 必 有 謙 卑 。
