Job 32 ~ Job 32

1 A nd these three men cease from answering Job, for he righteous in his own eyes,

Then these three men stopped answering Job, because he was right and good in his own eyes.

2 a nd burn doth the anger of Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram; against Job hath his anger burned, because of his justifying himself more than God;

But Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry. He was angry at Job because he said he was right with God.

3 a nd against his three friends hath his anger burned, because that they have not found an answer, and condemn Job.

And he was angry at his three friends because they had found no answer, yet they had said that Job was wrong.

4 A nd Elihu hath waited earnestly beside Job with words, for they are older than he in days.

Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.

5 A nd Elihu seeth that there is no answer in the mouth of the three men, and his anger burneth.

And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men, he was very angry.

6 A nd Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite answereth and saith: -- Young I in days, and ye age Therefore I have feared, And am afraid of shewing you my opinion.

So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite said, “I am young, and you are old. So I did not feel that I should speak. I was afraid to tell you what I think.

7 I said: Days do speak, And multitude of years teach wisdom.

I thought the older men should speak, and that the many years should teach wisdom.

8 S urely a spirit is in man, And the breath of the Mighty One Doth cause them to understand.

But it is the spirit in a man and the breath of the All-powerful that gives him understanding.

9 T he multitude are not wise, Nor do the aged understand judgment.

The old may not be wise. They may not understand what is right and fair.

10 T herefore I have said: Hearken to me, I do shew my opinion -- even I.

So I say, ‘Listen to me. I also will tell you what I think.’

11 L o, I have waited for your words, I give ear unto your reasons, Till ye search out sayings.

“See, I waited for your words. I listened to what you said and waited to hear more from you.

12 A nd unto you I attend, And lo, there is no reasoner for Job, answerer of his sayings among you.

I was careful to listen to you. There was no one who could prove that Job was wrong. None of you could answer his words.

13 L est ye say, We have found wisdom, God doth thrust him away, not man.

Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom. God will show he is wrong, not man.’

14 A nd he hath not set in array words for me, And with your sayings I do not answer him.

Now Job has not spoken his words against me. And I will not answer him with your words.

15 ( They have broken down, They have not answered again, They removed from themselves words.

“They are troubled and have no more to say. Words do not come.

16 A nd I have waited, but they do not speak, For they have stood still, They have not answered any more.)

Should I wait because they do not speak, because they stand there and do not answer?

17 I answer, even I -- my share, I shew my opinion -- even I.

I also will give my answer. I will tell what I think.

18 F or I have been full of words, Distressed me hath the spirit of my breast,

For I am full of words. The spirit within me makes me speak.

19 L o, my breast as wine not opened, Like new bottles it is broken up.

See, my stomach is like wine that cannot get out. It is ready to break like new wine bottles made of skin.

20 I speak, and there is refreshment to me, I open my lips and answer.

Let me speak, that I may find comfort. Let me open my lips and answer.

21 L et me not, I pray you, accept the face of any, Nor unto man give flattering titles,

I will not show favor to anyone, or praise any man in a false way.

22 F or I have not known to give flattering titles, In a little doth my Maker take me away.

For I do not know how to say sweet-sounding words that are not true, for then my Maker would soon take me away.
