1 A nd Miriam speaketh -- Aaron also -- against Moses concerning the circumstance of the Cushite woman whom he had taken: for a Cushite woman he had taken;

Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite woman.

2 a nd they say, `Only by Moses hath Jehovah spoken? also by us hath he not spoken?' and Jehovah heareth.

They said, “Is it true that the Lord has spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.

3 A nd the man Moses very humble, more than any of the men who on the face of the ground.

Now Moses was a man with no pride, more so than any man on the earth.

4 A nd Jehovah saith suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, `Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting;' and they three come out.

At once the Lord said to Moses and Aaron and Miriam, “You three come out to the meeting tent.” So the three of them came out.

5 A nd Jehovah cometh down in the pillar of the cloud, and standeth at the opening of the tent, and calleth Aaron and Miriam, and they come out both of them.

Then the Lord came down in a cloud and stood at the door of the meeting tent, and called Aaron and Miriam. When both of them had come near,

6 A nd He saith, `Hear, I pray you, My words: If your prophet is of Jehovah -- in an appearance unto him I make Myself known; in a dream I speak with him;

the Lord said, “Now listen to Me. If there is a man who speaks for God among you, I the Lord will make Myself known to him in a special dream. I will speak with him in a dream.

7 n ot so My servant Moses; in all My house he stedfast;

Not so, with My servant Moses. He is faithful in all My house.

8 m outh unto mouth I speak with him, and an appearance, and not in riddles; and the form of Jehovah he beholdeth attentively; and wherefore have ye not been afraid to speak against My servant -- against Moses?'

With him I speak face to face in ways he understands, and not in ways he does not understand. And he sees what the Lord is like. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?”

9 A nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against them, and He goeth on,

The Lord was angry with them, and He left.

10 a nd the cloud hath turned aside from off the tent, and lo, Miriam leprous as snow; and Aaron turneth unto Miriam, and lo, leprous!

When the cloud lifted from over the meeting tent, Miriam had a very bad skin disease. She was as white as snow. Aaron turned toward Miriam and saw that she had a bad skin disease.

11 A nd Aaron saith unto Moses, `O, my lord, I pray thee, lay not upon us sin which we have been foolish, and which we have sinned;

Then Aaron said to Moses, “O, my lord, I beg you. Do not punish us because we have been foolish and have sinned.

12 l et her not, I pray thee, be as dead, when in his coming out from the womb of his mother -- the half of his flesh is consumed.'

Let her not be like one who is dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he is born!”‘

13 A nd Moses crieth unto Jehovah, saying, `O God, I pray Thee, give, I pray Thee, healing to her.'

And Moses cried to the Lord, saying, “O God, heal her, I pray!”

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `And her father had but spat in her face -- is she not ashamed seven days? she is shut out seven days at the outside of the camp, and afterwards she is gathered.'

But the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had only spit in her face, would she not carry her shame for seven days? Let her be shut up for seven days away from the tents. After that, she may be brought in again.”

15 A nd Miriam is shut out at the outside of the camp seven days, and the people hath not journeyed till Miriam is gathered;

So Miriam was shut up away from the tents for seven days. And the people did not travel on until Miriam was brought in again.

16 a nd afterwards have the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and they encamp in the wilderness of Paran.

The people moved from Hazeroth after that. And they set up their tents in the desert of Paran.
