1 A nd Israel journeyeth, and all that he hath, and cometh in to Beer-Sheba, and sacrificeth sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac;
So Israel traveled with all he had to Beersheba. There he gave gifts to the God of his father Isaac.
2 a nd God speaketh to Israel in visions of the night, and saith, `Jacob, Jacob;' and he saith, `Here I.'
God spoke to Israel in special dreams in the night, saying, “Jacob, Jacob.” And Jacob answered, “Here I am.”
3 A nd He saith, `I God, God of thy father, be not afraid of going down to Egypt, for for a great nation I set thee there;
He said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go to Egypt. For I will make you a great nation there.
4 I -- I go down with thee to Egypt, and I -- I also certainly bring thee up, and Joseph doth put his hand on thine eyes.'
I will go with you to Egypt. I will bring you out again. And Joseph’s hand will close your eyes.”
5 A nd Jacob riseth from Beer-Sheba, and the sons of Israel bear away Jacob their father, And their infants, and their wives, in the waggons which Pharaoh hath sent to bear him,
Then Jacob left Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.
6 a nd they take their cattle, and their goods which they have acquired in the land of Canaan, and come into Egypt -- Jacob, and all his seed with him,
They took their animals and all the things they owned from the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his children with him,
7 h is sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, yea, all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.
his sons and grandsons, his daughters and granddaughters. He brought all his children with him to Egypt.
8 A nd these the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt: Jacob and his sons, Jacob's first-born, Reuben.
These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn,
9 A nd sons of Reuben: Hanoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.
and Reuben’s sons Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
10 A nd sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul son of the Canaanitess.
The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman.
11 A nd sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
12 A nd sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Pharez, and Zarah, (and Er and Onan die in the land of Canaan.) And sons of Pharez are Hezron and Hamul.
The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
13 A nd sons of Issachar: Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.
The sons of Issachar were Tola, Puvvah, Iob, and Shimron.
14 A nd sons of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.
The sons of Zebulun were Sered, Elon and Jahleel.
15 T hese sons of Leah whom she bare to Jacob in Padan-Aram, and Dinah his daughter; all the persons of his sons and his daughters thirty and three.
These are the sons who were born to Leah and Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah. He had thirty-three sons and daughters.
16 A nd sons of Gad: Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.
The sons of Gad were Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.
17 A nd sons of Asher: Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and Serah their sister. And sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
The sons of Asher were Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and their sister Serah. The sons of Beriah were Heber and Malchiel.
18 T hese sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she beareth these to Jacob -- sixteen persons.
These are the sons of Jacob and Zilpah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah. She gave birth to sixteen of Jacob’s children.
19 S ons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin.
The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin.
20 A nd born to Joseph in the land of Egypt (whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, hath borne to him) Manasseh and Ephraim.
The sons of Joseph in the land of Egypt were Manasseh and Ephraim. Their mother was Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the religious leader of On.
21 A nd sons of Benjamin: Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.
The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.
22 T hese sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; all the persons fourteen.
These are the sons of Jacob and Rachel, fourteen sons in all.
23 A nd sons of Dan: Hushim.
Dan’s son was Hushim.
24 A nd sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
The sons of Naphtali were Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.
25 T hese sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter; and she beareth these to Jacob -- all the persons seven.
These are the sons of Jacob and Bilhah, the woman whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel. There were seven sons in all.
26 A ll the persons who are coming to Jacob to Egypt, coming out of his thigh, apart from the wives of Jacob's sons, all the persons sixty and six.
All the people who came to Egypt with Jacob, the children of his own body, were sixty-six people in all. Added to this were the wives of Jacob’s sons.
27 A nd the sons of Joseph who have been born to him in Egypt two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who are coming into Egypt seventy.
Two sons were born to Joseph in Egypt. So all the people of Jacob’s family when he came to Egypt were seventy. Jacob Lives in Goshen
28 A nd Judah he hath sent before him unto Joseph, to direct before him to Goshen, and they come into the land of Goshen;
Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to learn the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen.
29 a nd Joseph harnesseth his chariot, and goeth up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and appeareth unto him, and falleth on his neck, and weepeth on his neck again;
Then Joseph made his wagon ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. When he came to him, they put their arms around each other and cried for a long time.
30 a nd Israel saith unto Joseph, `Let me die this time, after my seeing thy face, for thou yet alive.'
Then Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.”
31 A nd Joseph saith unto his brethren, and unto the house of his father, `I go up, and declare to Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and the house of my father who in the land of Canaan have come in unto me;
Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s family, “I will go and tell Pharaoh, ‘My brothers and my father’s family have come to me from the land of Canaan.
32 a nd the men feeders of a flock, for they have been men of cattle; and their flock, and their herd, and all that they have, they have brought.'
And the men are shepherds, for they have taken care of animals. They have brought their flocks and cattle and all they have.’
33 ` And it hath come to pass when Pharaoh calleth for you, and hath said, What your works?
When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your work?’
34 t hat ye have said, Thy servants have been men of cattle from our youth, even until now, both we and our fathers, -- in order that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen, for the abomination of the Egyptians is every one feeding a flock.'
you answer, ‘Your servants have taken care of cattle since we were young, both we and our fathers.’ Then he will let you live in the land of Goshen. For the Egyptians look down upon every shepherd.”
