1 T hus said Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of his burning the bones of the king of Edom to lime,
The Lord says, “For three sins of Moab and for four, I will not hold back punishment. He burned the bones of the king of Edom to ashes.
2 A nd I have sent a fire against Moab, And it hath consumed the palaces of Kerioth, And dying with noise is Moab, With shouting, with voice of a trumpet.
So I will send fire upon Moab, and it will destroy the strong-places of Kerioth. Moab will die among much noise, with cries of war and the sound of a horn.
3 A nd I have cut off a judge from her midst, And all its heads I slay with him, said Jehovah.
I will kill the ruler of Moab and all his sons with him,” says the Lord. Judah
4 T hus said Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, And for four, I do not reserve it, Because of their loathing the law of Jehovah, And His statutes they have not kept, And their lies do cause them to err, After which their fathers did walk,
The Lord says, “For three sins of Judah and for four, I will not hold back punishment. They turned away from the Law of the Lord. They have not obeyed His Laws. They have gone the wrong way, following the lies of their fathers.
5 A nd I have sent a fire against Judah, And it hath consumed palaces of Jerusalem.
So I will send fire upon Judah, and it will destroy the strong-places of Jerusalem.” God Judges Israel
6 T hus said Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of their selling for silver the righteous, And the needy for a pair of sandals.
The Lord says, “For three sins of Israel and for four, I will not hold back punishment. They sell those who are right and good for money. To get shoes, they sell people who are in need.
7 W ho are panting for the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, And the way of the humble they turn aside, And a man and his father go unto the damsel, So as to pollute My holy name.
They crush those who are poor in the dust of the earth with their feet. They push the poor out of the way. A man and his father go to the same girl and sin against My holy name.
8 A nd on pledged garments they stretch themselves near every altar, And the wine of fined ones they drink the house of their gods.
They lie down beside every altar on clothing taken as trust for promises. And in the house of their God they drink the wine which was paid by those who have done wrong.
9 A nd I -- I have destroyed the Amorite from before them, Whose height as the height of cedars, And strong he as the oaks, And I destroy his fruit from above, And his roots from beneath.
“I destroyed the Amorite before them, who was as tall as the cedar trees and as strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his root below.
10 A nd I -- I have brought you up from the land of Egypt, And cause you to go in a wilderness forty years, To possess the land of the Amorite.
I brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you in the desert for forty years to give you the land of the Amorite.
11 A nd I raise of your sons for prophets, And of your choice ones for Nazarites, Is not this true, O sons of Israel? An affirmation of Jehovah.
Then I raised up some of your sons to speak for Me, and some of your young men to be Nazirites. Is this not true, you sons of Israel?” says the Lord.
12 A nd ye cause the Nazarites to drink wine, And on the prophets ye have laid a charge, Saying, `Do not prophecy!'
“But you made the Nazirites drink wine. And you told the men who speak for Me not to speak.
13 L o, I am pressing you under, As the full cart doth press for itself a sheaf.
Now I will crush you down like a wagon is crushed under a heavy load of grain.
14 A nd perished hath refuge from the swift, And the strong strengtheneth not his power, And the mighty delivereth not his soul.
Even the fast man will not get away. The strong man will not keep his strength. And the powerful man will not save his life.
15 A nd the handler of the bow standeth not, And the swift with his feet delivereth not, And the rider of the horse delivereth not his soul.
He who uses the bow will not stand. The fast runner will not get away. The horseman will not save his life.
16 A nd the courageous of heart among the mighty, Naked doth flee in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah!
Even the strongest of heart among the men of war will run away without clothes on that day,” says the Lord.
