1 B less, O my soul, Jehovah! Jehovah, my God, Thou hast been very great, Honour and majesty Thou hast put on.
Praise the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great. You are dressed with great honor and wonderful power.
2 C overing himself light as a garment, Stretching out the heavens as a curtain,
He covers Himself with light as with a coat. He spreads out the heavens like a tent.
3 W ho is laying the beam of His upper chambers in the waters, Who is making thick clouds His chariot, Who is walking on wings of wind,
He makes His home on the waters. He makes the clouds His wagon. He rides on the wings of the wind.
4 M aking His messengers -- the winds, His ministers -- the flaming fire.
He makes the winds carry His news. He makes His helpers a burning fire.
5 H e hath founded earth on its bases, It is not moved to the age and for ever.
He set the earth in its place so that it will stay that way forever.
6 T he abyss! as with clothing Thou hast covered it, Above hills do waters stand.
You covered it with the sea as with a coat. The waters stood above the mountains.
7 F rom Thy rebuke they flee, From the voice of Thy thunder haste away.
The waters left at Your strong words. They went away in a hurry at the sound of Your thunder.
8 T hey go up hills -- they go down valleys, Unto a place Thou hast founded for them.
The mountains went up and the valleys went down to the place that You made for them.
9 A border Thou hast set, they pass not over, They turn not back to cover the earth.
You set a place that they may not pass over. The waters will never cover the earth again.
10 W ho is sending forth fountains in valleys, Between hills they go on.
He sends rivers into the valleys. They flow between the mountains.
11 T hey water every beast of the field, Wild asses break their thirst.
They give water to all the animals of the field. The wild donkeys drink until they are no longer thirsty.
12 B y them the fowl of the heavens doth dwell, From between the branches They give forth the voice.
The birds of the sky nest beside them. They sing among the branches.
13 W atering hills from His upper chambers, From the fruit of Thy works is the earth satisfied.
He waters the mountains from His home above. The earth is filled with the fruit of His works.
14 C ausing grass to spring up for cattle, And herb for the service of man, To bring forth bread from the earth,
He makes the grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to use. So He may bring food from the earth,
15 A nd wine -- it rejoiceth the heart of man, To cause the face to shine from oil, And bread -- the heart of man it supporteth.
wine that makes man’s heart glad, oil to make his face shine, and food to make his heart strong.
16 S atisfied the trees of Jehovah, Cedars of Lebanon that He hath planted,
The tall cedar trees that the Lord planted in Lebanon drink their fill.
17 W here birds do make nests, The stork -- the firs her house.
The birds make their nests there. The stork has its nest in the green trees.
18 T he high hills for wild goats, Rocks a refuge for conies,
The high mountains are for the wild goats. The rocks are a safe place for the badgers.
19 H e made the moon for seasons, The sun hath known his place of entrance.
He made the moon to mark the time of year. And the sun knows when to go down.
20 T hou settest darkness, and it is night, In it doth every beast of the forest creep.
You make darkness and it becomes night. Then all the wild animals among the trees come out.
21 T he young lions are roaring for prey, And to seek from God their food.
The young lions make a loud noise as they go after meat. And they get their food from God.
22 T he sun riseth, they are gathered, And in their dens they crouch.
They go to their homes and lie down when the sun rises.
23 M an goeth forth to his work, And to his service -- till evening.
Then man goes out to his work and works until evening.
24 H ow many have been Thy works, O Jehovah, All of them in wisdom Thou hast made, Full is the earth of thy possessions.
O Lord, how many are Your works! You made them all in wisdom. The earth is full of what You have made.
25 T his, the sea, great and broad of sides, There moving things -- innumerable, Living creatures -- small with great.
There is the wide sea full of both large and small animals. There are too many for us to number.
26 T here do ships go: leviathan, That Thou hast formed to play in it.
The ships sail there. And the very large sea animal You have made plays in it.
27 A ll of them unto Thee do look, To give their food in its season.
They all wait for You to give them their food at the right time.
28 T hou dost give to them -- they gather, Thou dost open Thy hand -- they satisfied good.
You give it to them and they gather it up. You open Your hand and they are filled with good things.
29 T hou hidest Thy face -- they are troubled, Thou gatherest their spirit -- they expire, And unto their dust they turn back.
They are troubled and afraid when You hide Your face. And when You take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30 T hou sendest out Thy Spirit, they are created, And Thou renewest the face of the ground.
They are made when You send Your Spirit. And You make the land of the earth new again.
31 T he honour of Jehovah is to the age, Jehovah rejoiceth in His works,
May the shining-greatness of the Lord last forever. May the Lord be glad in His works.
32 W ho is looking to earth, and it trembleth, He cometh against hills, and they smoke.
He looks at the earth and it shakes with fear. He touches the mountains and they smoke.
33 I sing to Jehovah during my life, I sing praise to my God while I exist.
I will sing to the Lord all my life. I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 S weet is my meditation on Him, I -- I do rejoice in Jehovah.
May the words of my heart be pleasing to Him. As for me, I will be glad in the Lord.
35 C onsumed are sinners from the earth, And the wicked are no more. Bless, O my soul, Jehovah. Praise ye Jehovah!
Let sinners be destroyed from the earth. And let the sinful be no more. Honor the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!
