1 T o the Overseer with Stringed Instruments. -- A Psalm of David. In my calling answer Thou me, O God of my righteousness. In adversity Thou gavest enlargement to me; Favour me, and hear my prayer.

Answer me when I call, O my God Who is right and good! You have made a way for me when I needed help. Be kind to me, and hear my prayer.

2 S ons of men! till when my glory for shame? Ye love a vain thing, ye seek a lie. Selah.

O sons of men, how long will you turn my honor into shame? How long will you love what is of no use, and run after lies?

3 A nd know ye that Jehovah Hath separated a saintly one to Himself. Jehovah heareth in my calling to Him.

Know that the Lord has set apart him who is God-like for Himself. The Lord hears when I call to Him.

4 ` Tremble ye, and do not sin;' Say ye in your heart on your bed, And be ye silent. Selah.

Shake with anger and do not sin. When you are on your bed, look into your hearts and be quiet.

5 S acrifice ye sacrifices of righteousness, And trust ye unto Jehovah.

Give the gifts that are right and good, and trust in the Lord.

6 M any are saying, `Who doth show us good?' Lift on us the light of Thy face, O Jehovah,

Many are asking, “Who will show us any good?” Let the light of Your face shine on us, O Lord.

7 T hou hast given joy in my heart, From the time their corn and their wine Have been multiplied.

You have filled my heart with more happiness than they have when there is much grain and wine.

8 I n peace together I lie down and sleep, For Thou, O Jehovah, alone, In confidence dost cause me to dwell!

I will lie down and sleep in peace. O Lord, You alone keep me safe.
