1 A nd they bring in the ark of God, and set it up in the midst of the tent that David hath stretched out for it, and they bring near burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before God;

They brought the special box of God, and put it inside the tent David had set up for it. Then they gave burnt gifts and peace gifts to God.

2 a nd David ceaseth from offering the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings, and blesseth the people in the name of Jehovah,

When David finished giving the burnt gifts and peace gifts, he prayed in the name of the Lord that good would come to the people.

3 a nd giveth a portion to every man of Israel, both man and woman: to each a cake of bread, and a measure of wine, and a grape-cake.

He gave to every man and woman in Israel a loaf of bread, a share of meat, and a loaf of dried grapes.

4 A nd he putteth before the ark of Jehovah, of the Levites, ministers, even to make mention of, and to thank, and to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel,

David chose some of the Levites to do the work in front of the special box of the Lord. They were to be glad and thank and praise the Lord God of Israel.

5 A saph the head, and his second Zechariah; Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with instruments of psalteries, and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals is sounding;

Asaph was the leader, then Zechariah, Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel. They were to play harps. And Asaph played loud-sounding timbrels.

6 a nd Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

The religious leaders Benaiah and Jahaziel sounded the horns all the time in front of the special box with the Law of God. A Song of Praise

7 O n that day then hath David given at the beginning to give thanks to Jehovah by the hand of Asaph and his brethren: --

Then on that day David first called upon Asaph and his brothers to give thanks to the Lord.

8 G ive thanks to Jehovah, call in His name, Make known among the peoples His doings.

“O give thanks to the Lord. Call upon His name. Let the people know what He has done.

9 S ing ye to Him, sing psalms to Him, Meditate on all His wonders.

Sing to Him. Sing praises to Him. Tell of all His great works.

10 B oast yourselves in His holy name, Rejoice doth the heart of those seeking Jehovah.

Have joy in His holy name. Let the heart of those who look to the Lord be glad.

11 S eek ye Jehovah and His strength, Seek His face continually.

Look to the Lord and ask for His strength. Look to Him all the time.

12 R emember His wonders that He did, His signs, and the judgments of His mouth,

Remember His great works which He has done. Remember the special things He has done and how He has judged,

13 O seed of Israel, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!

O children of Israel His servant, sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 H e Jehovah our God, In all the earth His judgments.

He is the Lord our God. He is judge of all the earth.

15 R emember ye to the age His covenant, The word He commanded -- To a thousand generations,

Remember His agreement forever, the Word which He gave to families and a thousand of their family groups to come.

16 W hich He hath made with Abraham, And His oath -- to Isaac,

Remember the agreement He made with Abraham, and His promise to Isaac.

17 A nd He establisheth it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel -- a covenant age-during.

To Jacob He made it a Law to be kept, as an agreement forever to Israel.

18 S aying: To thee I give the land of Canaan, The portion of your inheritance,

He said, ‘I will give the land of Canaan to you as the share of your birth-right,’

19 W hen ye are few of number, As a little thing, and sojourners in it.

when they were few in number. They were very few, and strangers in the land.

20 A nd they go up and down, From nation unto nation, And from a kingdom unto another people.

They traveled from nation to nation, from the people of one king to the people of another.

21 H e hath not suffered any to oppress them, And reproveth on their account kings:

He let no man make it hard for them. He spoke strong words to kings because of them, saying,

22 C ome not against Mine anointed ones, And against My prophets do not evil.

‘Do not touch My chosen ones. Do not hurt those who speak for Me.’

23 S ing to Jehovah, all the earth, Proclaim from day unto day His salvation.

Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Tell the good news of His saving power from day to day.

24 R ehearse among nations His glory, Among all the peoples His wonders.

Tell of His greatness among the nations. Tell of His great works among all the people.

25 F or great Jehovah, and praised greatly, And fearful He above all gods.

For great is the Lord. He is to be given much praise. And He is to be honored with fear more than all gods.

26 F or all gods of the peoples nought, And Jehovah the heavens hath made.

For all the gods of the people are false gods. But the Lord made the heavens.

27 H onour and majesty before Him, Strength and joy in His place.

Honor and great power are with Him. Strength and joy are in His place.

28 A scribe to Jehovah, ye families of peoples, Ascribe to Jehovah honour and strength.

Praise the Lord, O families of the people. Praise the Lord for His greatness and strength.

29 A scribe to Jehovah the honour of His name, Lift up a present, and come before Him. Bow yourselves to Jehovah, In the beauty of holiness.

Praise the Lord for the greatness of His name. Bring a gift and come to Him. Worship the Lord clothed in His holiness.

30 B e pained before Him, all the earth:

Shake with fear before Him, all the earth. Yes, the world is made to last. It will not be moved.

31 A lso, established is the world, It is not moved! The heavens rejoice, and the earth is glad, And they say among nations: Jehovah hath reigned.

Let the heavens be glad. Let the earth be filled with joy. And let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord rules!’

32 R oar doth the sea, and its fulness, Exult doth the field, and all that in it,

Let the sea thunder, and all that is in it. Let the field be happy, and all that is in it.

33 T hen sing do trees of the forest, From the presence of Jehovah, For He hath come to judge the earth!

Then the trees of the woods will sing for joy before the Lord. For He is coming to judge the earth.

34 G ive thanks to Jehovah, for good, For to the age, His kindness,

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His loving-kindness lasts forever.

35 A nd say, Save us, O God of our salvation, And gather us, and deliver us from the nations, To give thanks to Thy holy name, To triumph in Thy praise.

Then say, ‘Set us free, O God Who saves us. Gather and save us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, and have joy in Your praise.

36 B lessed Jehovah, God of Israel, From the age and unto the age;' And all the people say, `Amen,' and have given praise to Jehovah.

Honor be to the Lord, the God of Israel forever and ever.’” Then all the people said, “Let it be so!” and they praised the Lord. Worship at Jerusalem

37 A nd he leaveth there before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, for Asaph and for his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, according to the matter of a day in its day,

So David left Asaph and his brothers there in front of the special box with the Law of the Lord. He left them there to do the work in front of the special box always. They were to do whatever work needed to be done each day.

38 b oth Obed-Edom and their brethren, sixty and eight, and Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun, and Hosah for gatekeepers,

He left Obed-edom there with his sixty-eight brothers. Obed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah were to watch the gate.

39 a nd Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of Jehovah, in a high place that in Gibeon,

David left Zadok and his brothers who were the religious leaders in front of the meeting tent of the Lord in the high place at Gibeon.

40 t o cause to ascend burnt-offerings to Jehovah, on the altar of burnt-offering continually, morning and evening, and for all that is written in the law of Jehovah, that He charged on Israel.

They were to give burnt gifts to the Lord on the altar of burnt gifts all the time, morning and evening. They were to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord which He told Israel.

41 A nd with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen, who were defined by name, to give thanks to Jehovah, for to the age His kindness,

With them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen by name. They were to give thanks to the Lord, because His loving-kindness lasts forever.

42 a nd with them -- Heman and Jeduthun -- trumpets and cymbals for those sounding, and instruments of the song of God, and the sons of Jeduthun at the gate.

Heman and Jeduthun had horns and timbrels for making sounds of joy as the songs of God were sung. The sons of Jeduthun were to watch the gate.

43 A nd all the people go, each to his house, and David turneth round to bless his house.

Then all the people left. Each one went home. And David returned to bring good to those of his house.
