picture

1 M arkaad u fadhiisatid inaad taliye wax la cuntid, Aad uga fiirso waxa hortaada yaal,

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well who is before thee;

2 O o mindi cunaha iska saar Haddaad tahay nin hunguri weyn.

and put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3 C untadiisa macaan ha damcin, Waayo, waa cunto khiyaaneed.

Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.

4 H a isku daalin si aad taajir ku noqotid. Oo xigmaddaadana ka joogso.

Weary not thyself to become rich; cease from thine own intelligence:

5 M a waxaad indhaha ku dayaysaa wax aan jirin? Waayo, hubaal maalku wuxuu yeeshaa baalal, Sida gorgor samada u duula oo kale.

wilt thou set thine eyes upon it, it is gone; for indeed it maketh itself wings and it flieth away as an eagle towards the heavens.

6 K an isha sharka leh kibistiisa ha cunin, Cuntadiisa macaanna ha damcin,

Eat thou not the food of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties.

7 W aayo, isagu waxaa weeye siduu qalbiga kaga fikiro; Wuxuu kugu leeyahay, Cun oo cab, Laakiinse qalbigiisu kulama jiro.

For as he thinketh in his soul, so is he. Eat and drink! will he say unto thee; but his heart is not with thee.

8 W ixii aad cuntay waad soo mantagi doontaa, Oo erayadaadii macaanaana way kaa lumi doonaan.

Thy morsel which thou hast eaten must thou vomit up, and thou wilt have wasted thy sweet words.

9 N acas waxba ha kula hadlin, Waayo, isagu xigmadda hadalkaaga wuu quudhsan doonaa.

Speak not in the ears of a foolish, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10 S oohdintii hore ha durkin, Beeraha agoommadana ha dhex gelin,

Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

11 W aayo, bixiyahoodu waa xoog badan yahay; Oo isaga ayaa dacwadooda kugu qaadi doona.

for their redeemer is mighty; he will plead their cause against thee.

12 Q albigaaga edbinta u jeedi, Oo dhegahana erayada aqoonta.

Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13 I lmaha edbin ha u diidin, Waayo, haddaad isaga ul ku garaacdid, ma dhiman doono.

Withhold not correction from the child; for thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die:

14 U l baad isaga ku garaaci doontaa, Oo naftiisaad She'ool ka samatabbixin doontaa.

thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

15 W iilkaygiiyow, haddii qalbigaagu caqli leeyahay, Qalbigayguna wuu farxi doonaa.

My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine;

16 H aah, oo xataa uurkaygu wuu rayrayn doonaa, Markay bushimahaagu wax qumman ku hadlaan.

and my reins shall exult, when thy lips speak right things.

17 Q albigaagu yaanu dembilayaal ka hinaasin, Laakiinse maalinta oo dhan Rabbiga ka cabso.

Let not thy heart envy sinners, but in the fear of Jehovah all the day;

18 W aayo, hubaal waxaa jira abaalgud, Oo rajadaaduna kaama go'i doonto.

for surely there is a result, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

19 W iilkaygiiyow, i maqal, oo caqli yeelo, Oo qalbigaagana jidka ku toosi.

Thou, my son, hear and be wise, and direct thy heart in the way.

20 H a dhex joogin khamriyacabyada Iyo kuwa hunguriweynaanta hilibka u cuna,

Be not among winebibbers, among riotous eaters of flesh.

21 W aayo, kii sakhraan ah iyo kii hunguri weynuba way caydhoobi doonaan, Oo lulona nin calal bay u xidhi doontaa.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness clotheth with rags.

22 D hegayso aabbahaagii ku dhalay, Oo hooyadaana ha quudhsan markay gabowdo.

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23 R unta soo iibso, oo ha sii iibin, Oo weliba waxaad ku sii darsataa xigmadda iyo edbinta iyo waxgarashada.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; wisdom, and instruction, and intelligence.

24 K ii xaq ah aabbihiis aad buu u farxi doonaa, Oo kii ilmo caqli leh dhalaana farxad buu ka heli doonaa.

The father of a righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that begetteth a wise shall have joy of him:

25 A abbahaa iyo hooyadaaba ha farxeen, Oo tii ku dhashayna ha rayrayso.

let thy father and thy mother have joy, and let her that bore thee rejoice.

26 W iilkaygiiyow, qalbigaaga i sii, Oo indhahaaguna jidadkayga ha dhawreen.

My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27 W aayo, dhillo waa booraan dheer, Oo naag qalaadna waa god cidhiidhi ah.

For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

28 S ida tuug oo kale ayay u gabbataa, Oo waxay dadka ku dhex badisaa khaayinnada.

She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the treacherous among men.

29 B al yaa hoog leh? Oo yaa caloolxumo leh? Oo yaa murammo leh? Oo yaa calaacal badan leh? Oo yaa u dhaawacan sababla'aan? Oo yaa indho casaan ah leh?

Who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who contentions? Who complaining? Who wounds without cause? Who redness of eyes?

30 W aa kuwa wakhti dheer ku raaga khamriga, Waana kuwa u taga inay doondoontaan khamri laysku daray.

—They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.

31 H a fiirin khamrigu markuu casaado, Markuu koobka ka dhex dhalaalo, Iyo markuu si wanaagsan u shubmayoba.

Look not upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkleth in the cup, and goeth down smoothly:

32 U gu dambaysta wuxuu wax u qaniinaa sida abeesada, Oo sida jilbiskana wax buu u qaniinaa.

at the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

33 I ndhahaagu waxay arki doonaan naago qalaad, Oo qalbigaaguna wuxuu ku hadli doonaa waxyaalo qalloocan.

Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall speak froward things;

34 O o waxaad ahaan doontaa sida kan badda dhexdeeda jiifsada, Ama sida ka dakhalka dhaladiisa sare seexda.

and thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, and as he that lieth down upon the top of a mast:

35 W axaad odhan doontaa, Wax bay igu dhufteen, laakiin waxba ima yeelin. Way i garaaceen, iskamana aanan garan; Bal goormaan toosi doonaa? Weli mar kalaan doonan doonaa.

—''They have smitten me, I am not sore; they have beaten me, I knew it not. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.''
