1 ¶ Then calling his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of weakness.

5 ¶ These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans,

9 P rovide neither gold nor silver nor money in your girdles,
Don’t take any gold, silver, or brass in your money belts.
10 n or bag for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes nor a staff, for the workman is worthy of his food.

11 A nd into whatever city or town ye shall enter, search out with diligence who in it is worthy; and there abide until ye go from there.
Into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on.
12 A nd entering into the house, salute it.
As you enter into the household, greet it.
13 A nd if the house is worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it is not worthy, your peace shall return to you.
If the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it isn’t worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 A nd whosoever shall not receive you nor hear your words, depart out of that house or city and shake off the dust of your feet.
Whoever doesn’t receive you, nor hear your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet.
15 V erily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of those of Sodom and those of Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
Most certainly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
16 ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore prudent as serpents and innocent as doves.
“Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 B ut keep yourselves from men, for they will deliver you up in councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.
18 a nd ye shall even be brought before princes and kings for my sake, for testimony unto them and to the Gentiles.
Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.
19 B ut when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak, for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
But when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.
20 F or it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21 A nd brother shall deliver up brother unto death, and the father the child, and children shall rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death.
“Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22 A nd ye shall be hated of all men for my name, but he that endures to the end shall be saved.
You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.
23 B ut when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another, for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel until the Son of man be come.
But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man has come.
24 T he disciple is not above his master, nor the slave above his lord.
“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord.
25 I t is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the slave as his lord. If they have called the husband of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household?
It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!
26 F ear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, nor hid that shall not be known.
Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.
27 W hat I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light, and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye from the housetops.
What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.
28 A nd fear not those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
29 A re not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
“Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will,
30 B ut the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 F ear ye not, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
32 W hosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in the heavens.
Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33 B ut whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in the heavens.
But whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
34 T hink not that I have come to introduce peace into the land; I came not to introduce peace, but a sword.
“Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword.
35 F or I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 A nd a man’s foes shall be those of his own household.
A man’s foes will be those of his own household.
37 H e that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.
38 A nd he that does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me, isn’t worthy of me.
39 H e that finds his life shall lose it, and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.
He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 H e that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.
He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
41 H e that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.
42 A nd whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward.”
