1 N o te mea tenei te Ariki, a Ihowa o nga mano, te tango atu nei i Hiruharama, i a Hura, i te titoko me te tokotoko, i te titoko taro katoa, i te titoko wai katoa;
¶ For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of the hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread and the whole stay of water,
2 I te marohirohi, i te tangata whawhai; i te kaiwhakawa, i te poropiti, i te tohunga, i te tautahito;
the mighty man and the man of war, the judge and the prophet, the fortune-teller and the ancient,
the captain of fifty and the honourable man and the counsellor and the cunning artificer and the eloquent wise man.
4 K a hoatu ano e ahau he tamariki hei rangatira mo ratou, he kohungahunga hoki hei kingi mo ratou.
And I will give children to be their princes, and young fools shall rule over them.
And the people shall do violence, one against another, and each one against his neighbour; the child shall rise up against the ancient and the base against the honourable.
6 E mau hoki te tangata ki tona tuakana, i te whare o tona papa, a ka mea, He kakahu tou, hei rangatira koe mo matou, a hei raro i tou ringa tenei whakatakanga:
When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand;
7 A taua ra ka karanga nui ia, ka mea, E kore ahau e pai hei kaiwhakaora; kahore hoki he taro i toku whare, kahore he kakahu: kaua ahau e meinga e koutou hei rangatira mo te iwi.
in that day he shall swear, saying, I will not be a healer for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: do not make me a ruler of the people.
8 K ua taka hoki a Hiurharama, kua hinga a Hura; kua whawhai nei hoki to ratou arero, me a ratou mahi, ki a Ihowa, whakapataritari ai i nga kanohi o tona kororia.
For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen because their tongue and their doings have been against the LORD, to irritate the eyes of his majesty.
9 K o te titiro hoki a o ratou kanohi hei kaiwhakaatu mo to ratou he; e pera ana me Horoma e whakapuaki ana i o ratou hara, kahore e huna.
¶ The appearance of their countenance witnesses against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom; they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! For they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
Say unto the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings.
11 A ue te mate mo te tangata kino! ko te he mona: ka riro hoki i a ia te utu o ta ona ringa.
Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.
12 T ena ko taku iwi, he tamariki o ratou kaitukino, he wahine hoki e kingi ana mo ratou. E taku iwi, ko ou kaiarahi kei te whakapohehe i a koe, kei te whakakahore hoki i te tikanga o ou huarahi.
The oppressors of my people are many, and women rule over him. O my people, those who lead thee cause thee to err and twist the way of thy paths.
13 E whakatika ake ana a Ihowa ki te tohe, e tu ana ia ki te whakawa i nga iwi.
The LORD stands up to litigate and is present to judge the peoples.
14 K a timata ta Ihowa whakawa i nga kaumatua o tana iwi, i ona rangatira ano hoki: Ko koutou nana i pau ai te mara waina; ko nga taonga a nga rawakore i pahuatia kei roto i o koutou whare:
The LORD will come with judgment against the elders of his people and against these his princes, for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15 H e aha ta koutou tikanga i kuru ai koutou i taku iwi, i orohina ai e koutou nga mata o nga rawakore? e ai ta te Ariki, ta Ihowa o nga mano.
What do you mean that ye beat my people to pieces and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord GOD of the hosts.
16 N a i mea ano a Ihowa, Na i te mea e whakapehapeha ana nga tamahine o Hiona, e haere ana me te uatoko o nga kaki, me te takataka o nga karu, ka whakameamea, me te tatangi ano nga waewae:
¶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and swaggering as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet:
17 M o reira ka whakangaua e te Ariki ki te patito te tumuaki o nga tamahine o Hiona, ka takoto kau ano hoki i a Ihowa o ratou wahi ngaro.
Therefore the Lord will make bare the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will uncover that which they are ashamed of.
18 I taua ra ka kore i te Ariki te ataahua o nga mea tatangi o nga waewae, o nga whakapaipai ripekapeka, o nga heitiki;
In that day the Lord will take away the adornment of their shoes and their hair nets and their crystals,
19 N ga mekameka, nga poroporo me nga arai kanohi,
the chains and the jewels and the bracelets,
20 N ga potae, nga whakapaipai o nga waewae, nga pakawe, nga pouaka hongihongi me nga whakakai,
the bonnets and the ornaments of the legs and the headbands and the powders and the earrings,
21 N ga mowhiti, nga whakapaipai o te ihu,
the rings, and nose jewels,
22 N ga kakahu whakapaipai, nga koroka, nga hooro me nga pukoro,
the changeable suits of apparel and the mantles and the veils and the crisping pins,
23 N ga whakaata me te rinena pai, nga potae me nga arai whakapaipai.
the looking glasses and the fine linen and the hoods and the hairdos.
24 N a he kakara pai i mua, tera e puta ake he piro; he whitiki, tuku iho he tawhetawhe; he koukou huatau, tau iho he pakira kau; he tatua whakapaipai, kopakina iho ki te kakahu taratara: he ataahua, hunuhunua ake.
And it shall come to pass that instead of sweet perfumes, there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent and instead of well-set hair baldness and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth and burning instead of beauty.
25 K a hinga ou tangata i te hoari, ou marohirohi i te whawhaitanga.
Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mighty in the war.
26 K a tangi, ka aue ona kuwaha; a ka mokemoke ia, ka tau ki te whenua.
Thy gates shall lament and mourn, and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground.
