1 C ar le royaume des cieux est semblable à un maître de maison qui sortit dès le matin, afin de louer des ouvriers pour sa vigne.

For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard.

2 I l convint avec eux d'un denier par jour, et il les envoya à sa vigne.

And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 I l sortit vers la troisième heure, et il en vit d'autres qui étaient sur la place sans rien faire.

And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle;

4 I l leur dit: Allez aussi à ma vigne, et je vous donnerai ce qui sera raisonnable.

and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.

5 E t ils y allèrent. Il sortit de nouveau vers la sixième heure et vers la neuvième, et il fit de même.

Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.

6 É tant sorti vers la onzième heure, il en trouva d'autres qui étaient sur la place, et il leur dit: Pourquoi vous tenez-vous ici toute la journée sans rien faire?

And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

7 I ls lui répondirent: C'est que personne ne nous a loués. Allez aussi à ma vigne, leur dit-il.

They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard.

8 Q uand le soir fut venu, le maître de la vigne dit à son intendant: Appelle les ouvriers, et paie-leur le salaire, en allant des derniers aux premiers.

And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

9 C eux de la onzième heure vinrent, et reçurent chacun un denier.

And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling.

10 L es premiers vinrent ensuite, croyant recevoir davantage; mais ils reçurent aussi chacun un denier.

And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a shilling.

11 E n le recevant, ils murmurèrent contre le maître de la maison,

And when they received it, they murmured against the householder,

12 e t dirent: Ces derniers n'ont travaillé qu'une heure, et tu les traites à l'égal de nous, qui avons supporté la fatigue du jour et la chaleur.

saying, These last have spent but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.

13 I l répondit à l'un d'eux: Mon ami, je ne te fais pas tort; n'es-tu pas convenu avec moi d'un denier?

But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling?

14 P rends ce qui te revient, et va-t'en. Je veux donner à ce dernier autant qu'à toi.

Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee.

15 N e m'est-il pas permis de faire de mon bien ce que je veux? Ou vois-tu de mauvais oeil que je sois bon? -

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good?

16 A insi les derniers seront les premiers, et les premiers seront les derniers.

So the last shall be first, and the first last.

17 P endant que Jésus montait à Jérusalem, il prit à part les douze disciples, et il leur dit en chemin:

And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart, and on the way he said unto them,

18 V oici, nous montons à Jérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux principaux sacrificateurs et aux scribes. Ils le condamneront à mort,

Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death,

19 e t ils le livreront aux païens, pour qu'ils se moquent de lui, le battent de verges, et le crucifient; et le troisième jour il ressuscitera.

and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.

20 A lors la mère des fils de Zébédée s'approcha de Jésus avec ses fils, et se prosterna, pour lui faire une demande.

Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshipping him, and asking a certain thing of him.

21 I l lui dit: Que veux-tu? Ordonne, lui dit-elle, que mes deux fils, que voici, soient assis, dans ton royaume, l'un à ta droite et l'autre à ta gauche.

And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom.

22 J ésus répondit: Vous ne savez ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire la coupe que je dois boire? Nous le pouvons, dirent-ils.

But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? They say unto him, We are able.

23 E t il leur répondit: Il est vrai que vous boirez ma coupe; mais pour ce qui est d'être assis à ma droite et à ma gauche, cela ne dépend pas de moi, et ne sera donné qu'à ceux à qui mon Père l'a réservé.

He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father.

24 L es dix, ayant entendu cela, furent indignés contre les deux frères.

And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren.

25 J ésus les appela, et dit: Vous savez que les chefs des nations les tyrannisent, et que les grands les asservissent.

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

26 I l n'en sera pas de même au milieu de vous. Mais quiconque veut être grand parmi vous, qu'il soit votre serviteur;

Not so shall it be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister;

27 e t quiconque veut être le premier parmi vous, qu'il soit votre esclave.

and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant:

28 C 'est ainsi que le Fils de l'homme est venu, non pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner sa vie comme la rançon de plusieurs.

even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

29 L orsqu'ils sortirent de Jéricho, une grande foule suivit Jésus.

And as they went out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

30 E t voici, deux aveugles, assis au bord du chemin, entendirent que Jésus passait, et crièrent: Aie pitié de nous, Seigneur, Fils de David!

And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David.

31 L a foule les reprenait, pour les faire taire; mais ils crièrent plus fort: Aie pitié de nous, Seigneur, Fils de David!

And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David.

32 J ésus s'arrêta, les appela, et dit: Que voulez-vous que je vous fasse?

And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you?

33 I ls lui dirent: Seigneur, que nos yeux s'ouvrent.

They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

34 É mu de compassion, Jésus toucha leurs yeux; et aussitôt ils recouvrèrent la vue, et le suivirent.

And Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and straightway they received their sight, and followed him.
