1 P or que te conservas ao longe, Senhor? Por que te escondes em tempos de angústia?

Why standest thou afar off, O Lord ? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

2 O s ímpios, na sua arrogância, perseguem furiosamente o pobre; sejam eles apanhados nas ciladas que maquinaram.

The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

3 P ois o ímpio gloria-se do desejo do seu coração, e o que é dado ã rapina despreza e maldiz o Senhor.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the Lord abhorreth.

4 P or causa do seu orgulho, o ímpio não o busca; todos os seus pensamentos são: Não há Deus.

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

5 O s seus caminhos são sempre prósperos; os teus juízos estão acima dele, fora da sua vista; quanto a todos os seus adversários, ele os trata com desprezo.

His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

6 D iz em seu coração: Não serei abalado; nunca me verei na adversidade.

He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

7 A sua boca está cheia de imprecações, de enganos e de opressão; debaixo da sua língua há malícia e iniqüidade.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

8 P õe-se de emboscada nas aldeias; nos lugares ocultos mata o inocente; os seus olhos estão de espreita ao desamparado.

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

9 Q ual leão no seu covil, está ele de emboscada num lugar oculto; está de emboscada para apanhar o pobre; apanha-o, colhendo-o na sua rede.

He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

10 A baixa-se, curva-se; assim os desamparados lhe caem nas fortes garras.

He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

11 D iz ele em seu coração: Deus se esqueceu; cobriu o seu rosto; nunca verá isto.

He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

12 L evanta-te, Senhor; ó Deus, levanta a tua mão; não te esqueças dos necessitados.

Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

13 P or que blasfema de Deus o ímpio, dizendo no seu coração: Tu não inquirirás?

Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.

14 T u o viste, porque atentas para o trabalho e enfado, para o tomares na tua mão; a ti o desamparado se entrega; tu és o amparo do órfão.

Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

15 Q uebra tu o braço do ímpio e malvado; esquadrinha a sua maldade, até que a descubras de todo.

Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

16 O Senhor é Rei sempre e eternamente; da sua terra perecerão as nações.

The Lord is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

17 T u, Senhor, ouvirás os desejos dos mansos; confortarás o seu coração; inclinarás o teu ouvido,

Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

18 p ara fazeres justiça ao órfão e ao oprimido, a fim de que o homem, que é da terra, não mais inspire terror.

To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
