1 R ufe doch! was gilts, ob einer dir antworte? Und an welchen von den Heiligen willst du dich wenden?

Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

2 E inen Toren aber erwürgt wohl der Unmut, und den Unverständigen tötet der Eifer.

For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

3 I ch sah einen Toren eingewurzelt, und ich fluchte plötzlich seinem Hause.

I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

4 S eine Kinder werden fern sein vom Heil und werden zerschlagen werden im Tor, da kein Erretter sein wird.

His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

5 S eine Ernte wird essen der Hungrige und auch aus den Hecken sie holen, und sein Gut werden die Durstigen aussaufen.

Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

6 D enn Mühsal aus der Erde nicht geht und Unglück aus dem Acker nicht wächst;

Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

7 s ondern der Mensch wird zu Unglück geboren, wie die Vögel schweben, emporzufliegen.

yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

8 I ch aber würde zu Gott mich wenden und meine Sache vor ihn bringen,

I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

9 d er große Dinge tut, die nicht zu erforschen sind, und Wunder, die nicht zu zählen sind:

which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

10 d er den Regen aufs Land gibt und läßt Wasser kommen auf die Gefilde;

who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

11 d er die Niedrigen erhöht und den Betrübten emporhilft.

to set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

12 E r macht zunichte die Anschläge der Listigen, daß es ihre Hand nicht ausführen kann;

He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

13 e r fängt die Weisen in ihrer Listigkeit und stürzt der Verkehrten Rat,

He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

14 d aß sie des Tages in der Finsternis laufen und tappen am Mittag wie in der Nacht.

They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

15 E r hilft den Armen von dem Schwert, von ihrem Munde und von der Hand des Mächtigen,

But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

16 u nd ist des Armen Hoffnung, daß die Bosheit wird ihren Mund müssen zuhalten.

So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

17 S iehe, selig ist der Mensch, den Gott straft; darum weigere dich der Züchtigung des Allmächtigen nicht.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

18 D enn er verletzt und verbindet; er zerschlägt und seine Hand heilt.

for he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

19 A us sechs Trübsalen wird er dich erretten, und in der siebenten wird dich kein Übel rühren:

He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

20 i n der Teuerung wird er dich vom Tod erlösen und im Kriege von des Schwertes Hand;

In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

21 E r wird dich verbergen vor der Geißel Zunge, daß du dich nicht fürchtest vor dem Verderben, wenn es kommt;

Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22 i m Verderben und im Hunger wirst du lachen und dich vor den wilden Tieren im Lande nicht fürchten;

At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

23 s ondern sein Bund wird sein mit den Steinen auf dem Felde, und die wilden Tiere im Lande werden Frieden mit dir halten.

For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

24 U nd du wirst erfahren, daß deine Hütte Frieden hat, und wirst deine Behausung versorgen und nichts vermissen,

And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

25 u nd wirst erfahren, daß deines Samens wird viel werden und deine Nachkommen wie das Gras auf Erden,

Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 u nd wirst im Alter zum Grab kommen, wie Garben eingeführt werden zu seiner Zeit.

Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

27 S iehe, das haben wir erforscht und ist also; dem gehorche und merke du dir's.
