1 R uft nicht die Weisheit, und die Klugheit läßt sich hören?

Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

2 Ö ffentlich am Wege und an der Straße steht sie.

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

3 A n den Toren bei der Stadt, da man zur Tür eingeht, schreit sie:

She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

4 O ihr Männer, ich schreie zu euch und rufe den Leuten.

Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

5 M erkt, ihr Unverständigen, auf Klugheit und, ihr Toren, nehmt es zu Herzen!

O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

6 H öret, denn ich will reden, was fürstlich ist, und lehren, was recht ist.

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7 D enn mein Mund soll die Wahrheit reden, und meine Lippen sollen hassen, was gottlos ist.

For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 A lle Reden meines Mundes sind gerecht; es ist nichts Verkehrtes noch falsches darin.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9 S ie sind alle gerade denen, die sie verstehen, und richtig denen, die es annehmen wollen.

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 N ehmet an meine Zucht lieber denn Silber, und die Lehre achtet höher denn köstliches Gold.

Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 D enn Weisheit ist besser als Perlen; und alles, was man wünschen mag, kann ihr nicht gleichen.

For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 I ch, Weisheit, wohne bei der Klugheit und weiß guten Rat zu geben.

I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 D ie Furcht des HERRN haßt das Arge, die Hoffart, den Hochmut und bösen Weg; und ich bin feind dem verkehrten Mund.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 M ein ist beides, Rat und Tat; ich habe Verstand und Macht.

Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 D urch mich regieren die Könige und setzen die Ratsherren das Recht.

By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 D urch mich herrschen die Fürsten und alle Regenten auf Erden.

By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I ch liebe, die mich lieben; und die mich frühe suchen, finden mich.

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18 R eichtum und Ehre ist bei mir, währendes Gut und Gerechtigkeit.

Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19 M eine Frucht ist besser denn Gold und feines Gold und mein Ertrag besser denn auserlesenes Silber.

My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20 I ch wandle auf dem rechten Wege, auf der Straße des Rechts,

I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21 d aß ich wohl versorge, die mich lieben, und ihre Schätze vollmache.

that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22 D er HERR hat mich gehabt im Anfang seiner Wege; ehe er etwas schuf, war ich da.

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I ch bin eingesetzt von Ewigkeit, von Anfang, vor der Erde.

I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 D a die Tiefen noch nicht waren, da war ich schon geboren, da die Brunnen noch nicht mit Wasser quollen.

When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 E he denn die Berge eingesenkt waren, vor den Hügeln war ich geboren,

Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 d a er die Erde noch nicht gemacht hatte und was darauf ist, noch die Berge des Erdbodens.

while as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27 D a er die Himmel bereitete, war ich daselbst, da er die Tiefe mit seinem Ziel faßte.

When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 D a er die Wolken droben festete, da er festigte die Brunnen der Tiefe,

when he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 d a er dem Meer das Ziel setzte und den Wassern, daß sie nicht überschreiten seinen Befehl, da er den Grund der Erde legte:

when he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 d a war ich der Werkmeister bei ihm und hatte meine Lust täglich und spielte vor ihm allezeit

then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 u nd spielte auf seinem Erdboden, und meine Lust ist bei den Menschenkindern.

rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32 S o gehorchet mir nun, meine Kinder. Wohl denen, die meine Wege halten!

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 H öret die Zucht und werdet weise und lasset sie nicht fahren.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 W ohl dem Menschen, der mir gehorcht, daß er wache an meiner Tür täglich, daß er warte an den Pfosten meiner Tür.

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 W er mich findet, der findet das Leben und wird Wohlgefallen vom HERRN erlangen.

For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 W er aber an mir sündigt, der verletzt seine Seele. Alle, die mich hassen, lieben den Tod.

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
