1 ( Ein Lied im höhern Chor.) Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, HERR, zu dir.

Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.

2 H ERR, höre auf meine Stimme, laß deine Ohren merken auf die Stimme meines Flehens!

Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

3 S o du willst, HERR, Sünden zurechnen, HERR, wer wird bestehen?

If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

4 D enn bei dir ist die Vergebung, daß man dich fürchte.

But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

5 I ch harre des HERRN; meine Seele harret, und ich hoffe auf sein Wort.

I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

6 M eine Seele wartet auf den HERRN von einer Morgenwache bis zur andern.

My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

7 I srael, hoffe auf den HERRN! denn bei dem HERRN ist die Gnade und viel Erlösung bei ihm,

Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

8 u nd er wird Israel erlösen aus allen seinen Sünden.

And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
