1 Y ahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

وَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى:

2 “ Avenge the children of Israel for the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”

«انتَقِمْ لِبَنِي إسْرائِيلَ مِنَ المِديانِيِّينَ بِسَبَبِ ما عَمِلُوهُ بِبَني إسْرائِيلَ. وَبَعدَ ذَلِكَ تَمُوتُ وَتَنضَمُّ إلَى آبائِكَ.»

3 M oses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Yahweh’s vengeance on Midian.

فَقالَ مُوسَى لِلشَّعبِ: «اختارُوا بَعضاً مِنْ رِجالِكُمْ لِيُهاجِمُوا مِديانَ وَيُعاقِبُوهُمْ عَلَى ما عَمِلُوا ضِدَّ اللهِ.

4 O f every tribe one thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, you shall send to the war.”

فأرْسِلُوا فِي هَذِهِ الحَملَةِ ألفَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ مِنْ قَبائِلِ إسْرائِيلَ.»

5 S o there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

وَهَكَذا تَمَّ حَشدُ ألفِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ كُلِّ عَشِيرَةٍ مِنْ أُلُوفِ إسْرائِيلَ. تَمَّ اختِيارُ اثْنَي عَشَرَ ألفَ جُندِيٍّ لِهَذِهِ الحَملَةِ.

6 M oses sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.

فَأرسَلَ مُوسَى الألفَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ كُلِّ عَشِيرَةٍ لِهَذِهِ الحَملَةِ مَعَ فِينْحاسَ بْنِ ألِيعازارَ الكاهِنِ. وَأخَذَ فِينْحاسُ مَعَهُ آنِيَةَ المَكانِ المُقَدَّسِ وَالأبواقَ لإعطاءِ الإشاراتِ.

7 T hey fought against Midian, as Yahweh commanded Moses. They killed every male.

فَحارَبُوا مِديانَ كَما أمَرَ اللهُ مُوسَى، وَقَتَلُوا كُلَّ ذُكُورِهِمُ البالِغِينَ.

8 T hey killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

وَمِنْ ضِمْنِ مَنْ قَتَلُوهُمْ أوِيُ وَراقَمُ وَصُورُ وَحُورُ وَرابَعُ، مُلُوكُ مِديانَ الخَمسَةُ. كَما قَتَلُوا بَلْعامَ بْنَ بَعُورَ بِالسَّيفِ.

9 T he children of Israel took the women of Midian captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.

وَسَبَى بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ نِساءَ مِديانَ وَأطفالَهُمْ، كَما اغتَنَمُوا كُلَّ حَيواناتِهِمْ وَثَروَتِهِمْ.

10 A ll their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire.

وَأحرَقَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ كُلَّ مُدُنِ المِديانِيِّينَ حَيثُ كانُوا يَسكُنُونَ مَعَ كُلِّ مُخَيَّماتِهِمْ.

11 T hey took all the captives, and all the plunder, both of man and of animal.

وَجَمَعُوا كُلَّ ما أخَذُوهُ فِي الحَربِ، بِما فِي ذَلِكَ النّاسَ وَالحَيواناتِ.

12 T hey brought the captives, and the prey, and the plunder, to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the children of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.

ثُمَّ أحضَرُوا الأسْرَى وَالسَبْيَ وَالْغَنائِمَ إلَى مُوسَى وَألِيعازارَ الكاهِنِ وَإلَى كُلِّ بَني إسْرائِيلَ فِي المُخَيَّمِ فِي سُهُولِ مُوآبَ، بِجِوارِ نَهرِ الأُردُنِّ، مُقابِلَ أرِيحا.

13 M oses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.

فَخَرَجَ مُوسَى وَألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ وَكُلُّ رُؤَساءِ الشَّعبِ لِيَستَقبِلُوهُمْ خارِجَ المُخَيَّمِ.

14 M oses was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.

وَغَضِبَ مُوسَى جِدّاً عَلَى قادَةِ الجَيشِ، وَعَلَى قادَةِ الألفِ وَقادَةِ المِئَةِ، الَّذِينَ عادُوا مِنَ الحَملَةِ العَسكَرِيَّةِ.

15 M oses said to them, “Have you saved all the women alive?

وَقالَ مُوسَى لَهُمْ: «هَلْ تَرَكْتُمُ النِّساءَ حَيّاتٍ؟

16 B ehold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Yahweh.

هَؤُلاءِ هُنَّ اللَّواتِي اتَّبَعْنَ نَصِيحَةَ بَلْعامَ، وَجَعَلْنَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ يُخطِئُونَ إلَى اللهِ فِي فَغُورَ. فأدَّى ذَلِكَ إلَى وَباءٍ فَظِيعٍ عَلَى شَعبِ اللهِ.

17 N ow therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.

وَالآنَ، اقتُلُوا كُلَّ طِفلٍ ذَكَرٍ وَكُلَّ امْرأةٍ عاشَرَتْ رَجُلاً.

18 B ut all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

أمّا الفَتَياتُ اللَّواتِي لَمْ يُعاشِرْنَ أحَداً، فَأبقُوا عَلَى حَياتِهِنَّ لَكُمْ.

19 “ Encamp outside of the camp seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

امْكُثُوا خارِجَ المُخَيَّمِ لِسَبعَةِ أيّامٍ. وَكُلُّ واحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ، أوْ مِنَ المُسَبِّبِينَ، قَتلَ شَخْصاً أوْ لَمَسَ جُثَّةَ مَيِّتٍ، فَلْيَتَطَّهَرْ فِي اليَومَينِ الثّالِثِ وَالسّابِعِ.

20 A s to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood, you shall purify yourselves.”

طَهِّرُوا كُلَّ ثَوبٍ، وَكُلَّ شَيءٍ مَصنُوعٍ مِنَ الجِلدِ أوْ شَعرِ الماعِزِ أوْ مِنَ الخَشَبِ.»

21 E leazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the law which Yahweh has commanded Moses:

ثُمَّ قالَ ألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ لِلرِّجالِ الَّذِينَ ذَهَبُوا فِي الحَملَةِ: «هَذِهِ هِيَ قاعِدَةُ الشَّرِيعَةِ الَّتِي أعطاها اللهُ لِمُوسَى:

22 h owever the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

الذَّهَبُ وَالفِضَّةُ وَالبُرونْزُ وَالحَدِيدُ وَالقَصدِيرُ وَالرَّصاصُ،

23 e verything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity. All that doesn’t withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water.

وَكُلُّ شَيءٍ يَحتَمِلُ النّارَ ضَعُوهُ فِي النّارِ فَيَصِيرَ طاهِراً. لَكِنْ يَنْبَغِي تَطهِيرُهُ أيضاً بِماءِ التَّطهِيرِ. وَكُلُّ ما لا يُمكِنُ وَضعُهُ فِي النّارِ، يُوضَعُ فِي الماءِ.

24 Y ou shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. Afterward you shall come into the camp.”

وَفِي اليَومِ السّابِعِ، تَغسِلُونَ ثِيابَكُمْ فَتَكُونُونَ طاهِرِينَ. وَبَعدَ هَذا يُمكِنُكُمْ أنْ تَدخُلُوا المُخَيَّمَ.»

25 Y ahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

وَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى:

26 “ Count the plunder that was taken, both of man and of animal, you, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation;

«قُمْ أنتَ وَألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ وَرُؤَساءُ عَشائِرِ الشَّعبِ بِإحصاءِ ما تَمَّ سَبيُهُ مِنَ النّاسِ وَالحَيواناتِ.

27 a nd divide the plunder into two parts: between the men skilled in war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.

وَوَزِّعُوا غَنائِمَ الحَربِ بِالتَّساوِي: نِصْفاً للجُنُودِ الَّذِينَ شارَكُوا فِي الحَملَةِ العَسكَرِيَّةِ، وَنِصْفاً لِبَقِيَّةِ الشَّعبِ.

28 L evy a tribute to Yahweh of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.

وَخُذُوا ضَرِيبَةً للهِ. فَمِنَ الجُنُودِ الَّذِينَ اشتَرَكُوا فِي الحَملَةِ، خُذُوا واحِداً مِنْ كُلِّ خَمسِ مِئَةٍ: مِنَ النّاسِ وَالبَقَرِ وَالحَمِيرِ وَالغَنَمِ.

29 T ake it from their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest, for Yahweh’s wave offering.

تُؤخَذُ هَذِهِ الأشياءُ مِنْ نِصْفِ الغَنِيمَةِ، وَتُعطَى لإلِيعازارَ الكاهِنِ كَتَقدِمَةٍ للهِ.

30 O f the children of Israel’s half, you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the livestock, and give them to the Levites, who perform the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle.”

وَمِنَ النِّصفِ الخاصِّ بِبَني إسْرائِيلَ، خُذُوا واحِداً مِنْ كُلِّ خَمسِينَ: مِنَ النّاسِ وَالبَقَرِ وَالحَمِيرِ وَالغَنَمِ وَكُلِّ الحَيواناتِ، وَأعطُوها لِلّاوِيِّينَ المَسْؤولِينَ عَنْ مَسْكَنِ اللهِ المُقَدَّسِ.»

31 M oses and Eleazar the priest did as Yahweh commanded Moses.

فَفَعَلَ مُوسَى وَألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ حَسَبَ ما أمَرَ اللهُ بِهِ مُوسَى.

32 N ow the plunder, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,

وَغَنِمَ الجُنُودُ ما يَلِي مِنَ الحَربِ: سِتَّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمساً وَسَبعِينَ ألفاً مِنَ الغَنَمِ،

33 a nd seventy-two thousand head of cattle,

وَاثْنَينِ وَسَبعِينَ ألفاً مِنَ البَقَرِ،

34 a nd sixty-one thousand donkeys,

وَواحِداً وَسِتِّينَ ألفاً مِنَ الحَمِيرِ،

35 a nd thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him.

وَاثْنَينِ وَثَلاثِينَ ألفاً مِنَ النّاسِ، أي النِّساءِ اللَّواتِي لَمْ يُعاشِرْنَ رَجُلاً قَطُّ.

36 T he half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep:

وَكانَ النِّصفُ الخاصُّ بِالجُنُودِ ما يَلِي: عَدَدُ الغَنَمِ ثَلاثُ مِئَةٍ وَسَبعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ ألفاً وَخَمسَ مِئَةٍ،

37 a nd Yahweh’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five.

وَكانَتْ ضَرِيبَةُ اللهِ مِنَ الغَنَمِ سِتَّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمساً وَسَبعِينَ.

38 T he cattle were thirty-six thousand; of which Yahweh’s tribute was seventy-two.

وَكانَ عَدَدُ الأبقارِ سِتَّةً وَثَلاثِينَ ألفاً، وَكانَتْ ضَرِيبَةُ اللهِ مِنها اثْنَينِ وَسَبعِينَ.

39 T he donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred; of which Yahweh’s tribute was sixty-one.

وَكانَ عَدَدُ الحَمِيرِ ثَلاثِينَ ألفاً وَخَمسَ مِئَةٍ، وَكانَتْ ضَرِيبَةُ اللهِ مِنهُمْ واحِداً وَسِتِّينَ.

40 T he persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Yahweh’s tribute was thirty-two persons.

وَكانَ عَدَدُ النّاسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ ألفاً، وَكانَتْ ضَرِيبَةُ اللهِ مِنهُمُ اثْنَينِ وَثَلاثِينَ.

41 M oses gave the tribute, which was Yahweh’s wave offering, to Eleazar the priest, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

فَأعطَى مُوسَى الضَّرِيبَةَ، الَّتِي هِيَ حِصَّةُ اللهِ لألِيعازارَ الكاهِنِ، كَما أمَرَهُ اللهُ.

42 O f the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided off from the men who fought

وَكانَ النِّصفُ الخاصُّ بِبَني إسْرائِيلَ وَالَّذِي أُخِذَ مِنَ الجُنُودِ كَما يَلِي:

43 ( now the congregation’s half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,

كانَ عَدَدُ الغَنَمِ ثَلاثَ مِئَةٍ وَسَبعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ ألفاً وَخَمسَ مِئَةٍ،

44 a nd thirty-six thousand head of cattle,

وَكانَ عَدَدُ الأبقارِ سِتَّةً وَثَلاثِينَ ألفاً.

45 a nd thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,

وَعَدَدُ الحَمِيرِ ثَلاثِينَ ألفاً وَخَمسَ مِئَةٍ،

46 a nd sixteen thousand persons),

وَعَدَدُ النّاسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ ألفاً.

47 e ven of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites, who performed the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle; as Yahweh commanded Moses.

وَأخَذَ مُوسَى مِنَ النِّصفِ الخاصِّ بِبَني إسْرائِيلَ واحِداً مِنْ كُلِّ خَمسِينَ مِنَ الحَيواناتِ وَالنّاسِ وَأعطاها لِلّاوِيِّينَ المَسْؤولِينَ عَنْ مَسْكَنِ اللهِ المُقَدَّسِ، تَماماً كما أمَرَهُ اللهُ.

48 T he officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses.

ثُمَّ أتَى قادَةُ أقسامِ الجَيشِ إلَى مُوسَى – قادَةُ الألُوفِ وَقادَةُ المِئاتِ –

49 T hey said to Moses, “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our command, and there lacks not one man of us.

وَقالُوا لِمُوسَى: «نَحنُ خُدّامَكَ قَدْ أحصَينا الجُنُودَ الَّذِينَ كانُوا تَحتَ إمرَتِنا، فَوَجَدْنا أنَّهُ لَمْ يُفقَدْ وَلا رَجُلٌ واحِدٌ مِنّا.

50 W e have brought Yahweh’s offering, what every man has gotten, of jewels of gold, armlets, and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Yahweh.”

وَلِذا نَأتِي بِتَقدِمَةٍ للهِ مِنَ الأشياءِ المَصنُوعَةِ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ الَّتِي وَجَدَها كُلُّ واحِدٍ فِينا: أربِطَةً لِلسَّواعِدِ وَأساوِرَ وَخَواتِمَ وَأحلاقَ وَقَلائِدَ، تَقدِمَةً اختِيارِيَّةً فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ ، تَقدِيراً لإنقاذِهِ حَياتَنا.»

51 M oses and Eleazar the priest took their gold, even all worked jewels.

فَأخَذَ مُوسَى وَألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ الذَّهَبَ مِنهُمْ، كُلَّ الأشياءِ المَصنُوعَةِ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ.

52 A ll the gold of the wave offering that they offered up to Yahweh, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels.

فَكانَ وَزنُ الذَّهَبِ الَّذِي رَفَعَهُ قادَةُ الأُلوفِ وَقادَةُ المِئاتِ للهِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ ألْفاً وَسَبْعَ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ مِثْقالاً.

53 T he men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.

وَأخَذَ كُلُّ جُندِيٍّ نَصِيبَهُ مِنَ الغَنِيمَةِ.

54 M oses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh.

فَأخَذَ مُوسَى وَألِيعازارُ الكاهِنُ الذَّهَبَ مِنْ قادَةِ الأُلوفِ وَقادَةِ المِئاتِ، وَأتَيا بِهِ إلَى خَيمَةِ الاجْتِماعِ لِيَكُونَ تَذكاراً لِبَني إسْرائِيلَ فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ.
