1 A bram went up out of Egypt—he, his wife, all that he had, and Lot with him—into the South.

فَخَرَجَ أبْرامُ مِنْ مِصْرَ إلَى النَّقَبِ مَعَ زَوْجَتِهِ وَكُلِّ ما كانَ لَدَيهِ، وَمَعَ لُوطَ أيضاً.

2 A bram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

وَكانَ أبْرامُ غَنِيّاً جِدّاً بِالماشِيَةِ وَالفِضَّةِ وَالذَّهَبِ.

3 H e went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

وَارْتَحَلَ عَلَى مَراحِلَ مِنَ النَّقَبِ إلَى بَيتَ إيلَ. وَوَصَلَ إلَى المَكانِ الَّذِي كانَتْ فِيهِ خَيمَتُهُ فِي البِدايَةِ، أي بَينَ بَيتَ إيلَ وَعايَ.

4 t o the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on Yahweh’s name.

وَهُوَ المَكانُ الَّذِي كانَ قَدْ بَنَى فِيهِ المَذْبَحَ. وَدَعا أبْرامُ بِاسمِ اللهَ هُناكَ. انفصالُ أبْرامَ ولُوط

5 L ot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, herds, and tents.

وَكانَ لِلُوطَ الَّذِي يَصْحَبُ أبْرامَ فِي تَرْحالِهِ غَنَمٌ وَبَقَرٌ وَخِيامٌ كَأبْرامَ.

6 T he land was not able to bear them, that they might live together; for their substance was great, so that they could not live together.

فَلَمْ تَقْدِرِ الأرْضُ أنْ تَعُولَهُما وَهُما يَسْكُنانِ مَعاً، لأنَّ مُقْتَنَياتِهِما كانَتْ كَثِيرَةً جِدّاً. فَلَمْ يَعُودا قادِرَينَ عَلَى السَّكَنِ مَعاً.

7 T here was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites lived in the land at that time.

وَقامَتْ مُنازَعاتٌ بَينَ رُعاةِ أبْرامَ وَرُعاةِ لُوطَ. وَكانَ الكَنْعانِيُّونَ وَالفَرِزِّيُّونَ يَسْكُنُونَ فِي البِلادِ أيضاً.

8 A bram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are relatives.

فَقالَ أبْرامُ لِلُوطَ: «لا داعِيَ لأنْ تَقُومَ مُنازَعاتٌ بَينِي وَبَينَكَ، أوْ بَينَ رُعاتِي وَرُعاتِكَ، فَنَحْنُ قَرِيبانِ.

9 I sn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”

فَها هِيَ الأرْضُ كُلُّها أمامَكَ لِتَخْتارَ مِنْها. وَلْيَنفَصِلْ أحَدُنا عَنِ الآخَرِ. إنْ اتَّجَهْتَ شِمالاً، فَسَأتَّجِهُ يَمِيناً. وَإنْ اتَّجَهْتَ يَمِيناً، فَإنِّي سَأتَّجِهُ شِمالاً.»

10 L ot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

فَنَظَرَ لُوطُ حَولَهُ، وَرَأى أنَّ وادِيَ الأُرْدُنِّ كُلَّهُ حَتَّى صُوغَرَ حَسَنُ السِّقايَةِ كَحَدِيقَةِ اللهِ ، أوْ كَأرْضِ مِصْرَ – كانَ هَذا قَبلَ أنْ يُدَمِّرَ اللهُ مَدِينَتِي سَدُومَ وَعَمُورَةَ –

11 S o Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.

وَاختارَ لُوطُ لِنَفْسِهِ كُلَّ وادِي الأُرْدُنِّ. فارْتَحَلَ لُوطُ شَرْقاً، وَانفَصَلَ أحَدُهُما عَنِ الآخَرِ.

12 A bram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

وَسَكَنَ أبْرامُ فِي أرْضِ كَنْعانَ. وَأمّا لُوطُ فَسَكَنَ فِي مُدُنِ وادِي الأُرْدُنِّ، وَقَرَّبَ خَيمَتَهُ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ سَدُومَ.

13 N ow the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh.

وَكانَ أهلُ سَدُومَ أشْراراً وَخُطاةً جِدّاً أمامَ اللهِ.

14 Y ahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, “Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,

وَقالَ اللهُ لِأبْرامَ بَعْدَ أنِ انْفَصَلَ لُوطُ عَنْهُ: «انْظُرْ حَولَكَ، وَتَطَلَّعْ مِنَ المَكانِ الَّذِي أنْتَ فِيهِ شَمالاً وَجَنُوباً وَشَرْقاً وَغَرْباً.

15 f or all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

أتَرَى كُلَّ هَذِهِ الأرْضِ؟ سَأُعْطِيها لَكَ وَلِأحفادِكَ مُلْكاً إلَى الأبَدِ.

16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your offspring may also be numbered.

وَسَأجْعَلُ أحفادَكَ بِعَدَدِ حَبّاتِ تُرابِ الأرْضِ. فَإنِ استَطاعَ إنسانٌ أنْ يُحصِيَ حَبّاتِ تُرابِ الأرْضِ، يَستَطِيعُ عِندَ ذَلِكَ أنْ يُحصِيَ أفرادَ نَسلِكَ.

17 A rise, walk through the land in its length and in its width; for I will give it to you.”

اذْهَبْ وَتَجَوَّلْ فِي هَذِهِ الأرْضِ كُلِّها طُولاً وَعَرْضاً، لِأنِّي سَأُعطِيها لَكَ.»

18 A bram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.

فَحَلَّ أبْرامُ خِيامَهُ وَذَهَبَ لِيَسْتَقِرَّ عِنْدَ بَلُّوطاتِ مَمْرا فِي مَدِينَةِ حَبْرُونَ. وَهُناكَ بَنَى مَذْبَحاً للهِ.
