1 N ow these are the heads of their fathers’ households, and this is the genealogy of those who went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king:

هَذِهِ أسماءُ رُؤَساءِ العَشائِرِ الَّذِينَ أَتَوْا مَعِي مِنْ بابِلَ إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ، مَعَ نَسَبِهِمْ فِي فَتْرَةِ حُكْمِ أرْتَحْشَسْتا:

2 O f the sons of Phinehas, Gershom. Of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel. Of the sons of David, Hattush.

مِنْ بَنِي فِينَحاسَ جِرْشُومُ. وَمِن بَنِي إيثامارَ دانْيالُ. وَمِن بَنِي داوُدَ حَطُّوشُ مِنْ بَنِي شَكَنْيا.

3 O f the sons of Shecaniah, of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah; and with him were listed by genealogy of the males one hundred fifty.

وَمِن بَنِي فَرْعُوشَ زَكَرِيّا وَمَعَهُ مِئَةٌ وَخَمْسُونَ رَجُلاً مُسَجَّلاً.

4 O f the sons of Pahathmoab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah; and with him two hundred males.

وَمِن بَنِي فَحَثَ مُوآبُ ألِيهُوعَينايُ بْنُ زَرَحِيا وَمَعَهُ مِئَتا رَجُلٍ.

5 O f the sons of Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel; and with him three hundred males.

وَمِن بَنِي زَتَو شَكَنْيا بْنُ يَحْزِئِيلَ وَمَعَهُ ثَلاثُ مِئَةِ رَجُلٍ.

6 O f the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan; and with him fifty males.

وَمِن بَنِي عادِينَ عابِدُ بْنُ يُوناثانَ وَمَعَهُ خَمسُونَ رَجُلاً.

7 O f the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah; and with him seventy males.

وَمِن بَنِي عِيلامَ يَشْعِيا بْنُ عَثَلَيا وَمَعَهُ سَبعُونَ رَجُلاً.

8 O f the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael; and with him eighty males.

وَمِن بَنِي شَفَطْيا زَبَدْيا بْنُ مِيخائِيلَ وَمَعَهُ ثَمانُونَ رَجُلاً.

9 O f the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel; and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

وَمِن بَنِي يُوآبَ عُوبَدْيا بْنُ يَحِيئِيلَ وَمَعَهُ مِئَتانِ وَثَمانِيَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلاً.

10 O f the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah; and with him one hundred sixty males.

وَمِن بَنِي بانِيَ شَلُومِيثَ بْنُ يُشَفْيا وَمَعَهُ مِئَةٌ وَسِتُّونَ رَجُلاً.

11 O f the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai; and with him twenty-eight males.

وَمِن بَنِي بابايَ زَكَرِيّا بْنُ بابايَ وَمَعَهُ ثَمانِيَةٌ وَعِشرُونَ رَجُلاً.

12 O f the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan; and with him one hundred ten males.

وَمِن بَنِي عَزْجَدَ يُوحَنانُ بْنُ هِقّاطانَ وَمَعَهُ مِئَةٌ وَعَشْرَةُ رِجالٍ.

13 O f the sons of Adonikam, who were the last; and these are their names: Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them sixty males.

مِنْ بَنِي أدُونِيقامَ، وَهَذِهِ أسماءُ آخِرِهِمْ: ألِيفَلَطُ وَيَعِيئِيلُ وَشَمْعِيا وَمَعَهُمْ سِتُّونَ رَجُلاً.

14 O f the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and with them seventy males.

وَمِن بَنِي بَغْوايَ عُوتايُ وَزَبُّودُ وَمَعهُما سَبعُونَ رَجُلاً. العَودَةُ إلَى مَدِينَةِ القُدس

15 I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava; and there we encamped three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

فَجَمَعتُهُمْ عِندَ القَناةِ الَّتِي تَجْرِي باتِّجاهِ نَهْرِ أهْوا، وَخَيَّمنا هُناكَ ثَلاثَةَ أيّامٍ. وَبَحَثتُ بَينَ الشَّعبِ وَالكَهَنَةِ، فَلَمْ أجِدْ أحَداً مِنْ بَنِي لاوِي هُناكَ.

16 T hen sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, who were teachers.

وَاسْتَدعَيتُ ألِيعَزَرَ وَأرِيئِيلَ وَشَمْعِيا وَألْناثانَ وَيارِيبَ وَألْناثانَ وَناثانَ وَزَكَرِيّا وَمَشُلّامَ، وَهُمْ مِنَ القادَةِ. كَما اسْتَدعَيتُ يُويارِيبَ وَألناثانَ، وَهُما حَكِيمانِ.

17 I sent them out to Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should tell Iddo, and his brothers the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring to us ministers for the house of our God.

وَأرسَلتُهُمْ إلَى إدُّو، القائِدِ فِي المَكانِ المُسّمَّى كَسِفْيا، وَأعلَمتُهُمْ ماذا يَقُولُونَ لإدُّو وَإخوَتِهِ وَخُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ فِي كَسِفْيا، لِكَي يُرسِلُوا إلَينا مُساعِدِينَ لِهَيكَلِ إلَهِنا.

18 A ccording to the good hand of our God on us they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brothers, eighteen;

وَلأنَّ إلَهَنا الصّالِحَ ساعَدَنا، أرسَلُوا إلَينا رَجُلاً حَكِيماً مُقتَدِراً مِنْ بَنِي مَحلِي بْنِ لاوِي بْنِ إسْرائِيلَ، إذْ أرْسَلُوا شَرَبْيا وَأبناءَهُ وَإخوَتَهُ، وَكانُوا ثَمانِيَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلاً.

19 a nd Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brothers and their sons, twenty;

كَما أرسَلُوا إلَينا حَشَبْيا وَيَشَعْيا مِنْ بَنِي مَرارِي وَإخوَتَهُمْ وَبَنِيهُمْ، وَكانُوا عِشرِينَ رَجُلاً.

20 a nd of the Nethinim, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them were mentioned by name.

وَأرسَلُوا أيضاً خُدّامَ الهَيكَلِ الَّذِينَ عَيَّنَ داوُدُ وَالمَسؤُولُونَ آباءَهُمْ لِيُساعِدُوا اللّاوِيِّينَ. وَكانُو مِئَتَينِ وَعِشرِينَ خادِماً مِنْ خُدّامِ الهَيكَلِ. وَكانَتْ جَميعُ أسْمائِهِمْ مُدَوَّنَةً.

21 T hen I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

وَهُناكَ عِندَ نَهرِ أهْوا أعلَنتُ صَوماً لِكَي نَتَواضَعَ أمامَ إلَهِنا وَنَطلُبُ مِنهُ رِحلَةً آمِنَةً لَنا وَلِصِغارِنا وَلِكُلِّ مُقتَنَياتِنا،

22 F or I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is on all those who seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all those who forsake him.”

لأنِّي استَحَيتُ أنْ أطلُبَ مِنَ المَلِكِ جُنُوداً وَفُرساناً لِحِمايَتِنا مِنْ أعدائِنا فِي الطَّرِيقِ. فَقَد قُلنا لَهُ: «إلَهُنا يُعِينُ كُلَّ الَّذِينَ يَتَّكِلُونَ عَلَيهِ، وَيَغضَبُ عَلَى كُلِّ الَّذِينَ يَبتَعِدُونَ عَنهُ.»

23 S o we fasted and begged our God for this: and he was entreated of us.

وَهَكَذا صُمنا وَصَلَّينا لإلَهِنا مِنْ أجلِ رِحلَةٍ آمِنَةٍ، فَاسْتَجابَ لَنا.

24 T hen I set apart twelve of the chiefs of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brothers with them,

ثُمَّ اخْتَرتُ اثنَي عَشَرَ مِنْ قادَةِ الكَهَنَةِ مَعَ شَرَبْيا وَحَشَبْيا وَعَشْرَةً مِنْ أقارِبِهِمْ مَعَهُمْ.

25 a nd weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his princes, and all Israel there present, had offered:

وَبَعدَ ذَلِكَ وَزَنْتُ وَأعطَيتُهُمِ الفِضَّةَ وَالذَّهَبَ وَالآنِيَةَ، وَهِيَ تَقدِمَةٌ لِهَيكَلِ إلَهِنا مِنَ المَلِكِ وَمُستَشارِيهِ وَمَسؤولِيهِ وَكُلِّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ الَّذِينَ هُناكَ.

26 I weighed into their hand six hundred fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels one hundred talents; of gold one hundred talents;

وَقَد وَزَنْتُ وَأعطَيتُهُمْ سِتَّ مِئَةٍ وَخَمْسِينَ قِنْطاراً مِنَ الفِضَّةِ، وَمِئَةَ قِنْطارٍ مِنَ الآنِيَةِ الفِضِّيَّةِ، وَمِئَةَ قِنْطارٍ مِنَ الذَّهَبِ،

27 a nd twenty bowls of gold, of one thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold.

وَعِشرِينَ زِبدِيَّةً ذَهَبِيَّةً تُعادِلُ ألْفَ دِرْهَمٍ، وَإنائَينِ مِنَ البُرونْزِ المَصقُولِ ثَمِينَتَينِ كَالذَّهَبِ.

28 I said to them, “You are holy to Yahweh, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to Yahweh, the God of your fathers.

ثُمَّ قُلْتُ للكَهَنَةِ: «أنتُمْ مُكَرَّسُونَ للهِ ، وَهَذِهِ الآنِيَةُ مُكَرَّسَةٌ لَهُ أيضاً. وَالفِضَّةُ وَالذَّهَبُ هِيَ تَقْدِماتٌ لإلَهِ آبائِكُمْ.

29 W atch, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the princes of the fathers’ households of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the rooms of Yahweh’s house.”

فَاحرُسُوها بِعِنايَةٍ إلَى أن تَزِنُوها أمامَ قادَةِ الكَهَنَةِ وَاللّاوِيِّينَ وَقادَةِ عَشائِرِ شَعبِ اللهِ فِي مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ، فِي غُرَفِ بَيتِ اللهِ.»

30 S o the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

فَأخَذَ الكَهَنَةُ وَاللّاوِيِّونَ الفِضَّةَ وَالذَّهَبَ الَّتِي وُزِنَت لِكَي يُحضِرُوها إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ، إلَى هَيكَلِ إلَهِنا.

31 T hen we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the bandit by the way.

وَغادَرنا نَهرَ أهْوا فِي الثّانِي عَشَرَ مِنَ الشَّهرِ الأوَّلِ للِذَّهابِ إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ. وَكانَ إلَهُنا مَعَنا، فَحَمانا طَوالَ الرِّحلَةِ مِنْ قُوَّةِ أعدائِنا وَكَمائِنِ قُطّاعِ الطُّرُقِ.

32 W e came to Jerusalem, and stayed there three days.

وَوَصَلنا أخِيراً إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ، وَاستَرَحنا فِيها ثَلاثَةَ أيّامٍ.

33 O n the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite;

وَفِي اليَومِ الرّابِعِ وَزَنّا الفِضَّةَ وَالذَّهَبَ وَالآنِيَةَ فِي هَيكَلِ إلَهِنا، وَأعْطَيْناها لِمَرِمُوثَ بْنِ أُورِيّا الكاهِنِ، وَمَعَهُ ألِعازارُ بْنُ فِينَحاسَ، وَمَعَهُما اللّاوِيّانِ يُوزابادُ بْنُ يَشُوعَ وَنُوعَدْيا بْنُ بَنُّوِيَ.

34 t he whole by number and by weight: and all the weight was written at that time.

وَتَمَّ التَحَقُقُ مِنْ كُلِّ شَئٍ بِالعَدَدِ وَالوَزنِ، وَسُجِّلَ الوَزنُ الكُلِيُّ فِي ذَلِكَ الوَقتِ.

35 T he children of the captivity, who had come out of exile, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and twelve male goats for a sin offering: all this was a burnt offering to Yahweh.

ثُمَّ قَدَّمَ اليَهُودُ العائِدُونَ مِنَ السَّبيِ ذَبائِحَ صاعِدَةً لإلَهِ إسْرائِيلَ: اثنَي عَشَرَ ثَوراً عَن كُلِّ شَعبِ اللهِ، وَسِتَّةً وَتِسعِينَ كَبْشاً وَسَبعَةً وَسَبعِينَ حَمَلاً وَاثنَي عَشَرَ تَيساً ذَبائِحَ خَطِيَّةٍ. وَكانَ هَذا كُلُّهُ ذَبِيحَةً صاعِدَةً للهِ.

36 T hey delivered the king’s commissions to the king’s satraps, and to the governors beyond the River: and they furthered the people and God’s house.

وَسَلَّمُوا أوامِرَ المَلِكِ إلَى الحُكّامِ وَالوُلاةِ فِي إقلِيمِ غَرْبِ النَّهرِ، فَقَدَّمُوا العَونَ لِلشَّعبِ وَلِبَيتِ اللهِ.
