1 J oash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.

كانَ يُوآشُ فِي السّابِعَةِ مِنْ عُمْرِهِ عِندَما تَوَلَّى الحُكمَ، وَحَكَمَ أربَعِينَ سَنَةً في مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ. وَاسْمُ أُمِّهِ ظَبْيَةُ، وَهيَ مِنْ بِئْرِ السَّبعِ.

2 J oash did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

وَعَمِلَ يُوآشُ ما يُرضِي اللهَ طَوالَ حَياةِ الكاهن يَهُوياداعَ.

3 J ehoiada took for him two wives; and he became the father of sons and daughters.

وَاختارَ يَهُوياداعُ زَوجَتَينِ ليُوآشَ. فَأنجَبَ يُوآشُ أولاداً وَبَناتٍ.

4 A fter this, Joash intended to restore Yahweh’s house.

وَبَعدَ مُدَّةٍ قَرَّرَ يُوآشُ أنْ يُرَمِّمَ بَيتَ اللهِ.

5 H e gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.

فَدَعَى الكَهَنَةَ وَالَّلاوِيِّينَ مَعاً. وَقالَ لَهُمُ: «اذهَبُوا إلَى مُدُنِ يَهُوذا وَاجمَعُوا المالَ الَّذِي يَدفَعُهُ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ. أنفِقُوا ذَلِكَ المالَ فِي تَرْمِيمِ بَيتِ إلَهِكُمْ، وَعَجِّلُوا بِذَلِكَ.»

6 T he king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the tent of the testimony?”

فَاسْتَدْعَى المَلكُ يُوآشُ رَئيسَ الكَهَنَةِ يَهُوياداعَ، وَقالَ لَهُ: «لِماذا لَمْ تَطلُبْ منَ الَّلاوِيِّينَ أنْ يُحضِرُوا مَبلَغَ الضَّرِيبَةِ مِنْ يَهُوذا وَالقُدسِ؟ فَقَدْ سَبَقَ أنْ استَخدَمَ مُوسَى خادِمُ اللهِ وَبَنُو إسْرائِيلَ مَبلَغَ الضَّرِيبَةِ لِبِناءِ خَيمَةِ الاجْتِماعِ.»

7 F or the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of Yahweh’s house to the Baals.

وَكانَ أبناءُ عَثَلْيا الشِّرِّيرَةِ قَدْ سَطُوا عَلَى بِيتِ اللهِ. وَأخَذُوا الآنِيَةَ المُقَدَّسَةَ المُستَخدَمَةَ فِي عِبادَةِ اللهِ وَاستَخدَمُوها لِعبادَةِ آلِهَةِ البَعلِ.

8 S o the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of Yahweh’s house.

وَأصدَرَ المَلِكُ يُوآشُ أمْراً بِصُنْعِ صُندُوقٍ وَوَضْعِهِ خارِجَ البَوّابَةِ عِندَ بَيتِ اللهِ.

9 T hey made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

ثُمَّ أذاعَ الَّلاوِيُّونَ إعلاناً فِي يَهُوذا وَالقُدسِ. فَنادُوا أنَّ عَلَى الشَّعبِ أنْ يُحضِرُوا مَبلَغَ الضَّرِيبَةِ للهِ. وَهُوَ مَبلَغُ الضَّرِيبَةِ الَّتِي فَرَضَها مُوسَى عَبدُ اللهِ عَلَى بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ فِي البَرِّيَّةِ.

10 A ll the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

فَفَرِحَ كُلُّ القادَةِ وَالشَّعْبِ، وَصارُوا يَضَعُونَ مِنْ مالِهِم فِي الصُّنْدُوقِ حَتَّى يَمْتَلِئَ.

11 I t was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

وَكانَ الَّلاوِيُّونَ يَأخُذُونَ الصُّنْدُوقَ إلَى الوُكَلاءِ الَّذِينَ انتَدَبَهُمُ المَلِكُ. وَعندَما يَرَوْنَ أنَّ الصُّنْدُوقَ مُمتَلئٌ مالاً، كانَ كاتِبُ المَلِكِ وَالوَكِيلُ المُنتَدَبُ مِنْ رَئِيسِ الكَهَنَةِ يَأتِيانِ وَيَأخُذانِ المالَ مِنَ الصُّنْدُوقِ، ثُمَّ يُعِيدانِهِ إلَى مَكانِهِ. وَكَرَّرُوا هَذا الأمرَ مَرّاتٍ كَثِيرَةً، فَجَمَعُوا مالاً كَثِيراً.

12 T he king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of Yahweh’s house; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore Yahweh’s house, and also such as worked iron and brass to repair Yahweh’s house.

ثُمَّ كانَ المَلِكُ يُوآشُ وَيَهُوياداعُ يَدْفَعُونَ أُجُورَ العُمّالِ الَّذِينَ كانُوا يَشتَغِلُونَ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ. فَقَدِ اسْتَأْجَرَ العامِلُونَ عَلَى بَيتِ اللهِ نَحّاتِي خَشَبٍ وَنَجّارِينَ لِكَي يُعِيدُوا بِناءَ بَيتِ اللهِ. وَاستَأجَرُوا أيضاً عُمّالاً ماهِرينَ فِي استِخدامِ الحَدِيدِ وَالبُرونْزِ فِي الهَيكَلِ.

13 S o the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands, and they set up God’s house in its state, and strengthened it.

وَقامَ العامِلونَ بِعَمَلِهِمْ عَلَى أفْضَلِ وَجْهٍ. فَكانَ التَرْمِيمُ يَتَقَدَّمُ شَيئاً فَشَيئاً. فَقَدْ بَنَوْا بِيتَ اللهِ حَسَبَ تَصْمِيمِهِ السّابِقِ، وَقَوُّوهُ.

14 W hen they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for Yahweh’s house, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in Yahweh’s house continually all the days of Jehoiada.

وَلَمّا أكمَلَ العُمّالُ عَمَلَهُمْ، جَلَبُوا المالَ المُتَبَقِّيَ إلَى المَلِكِ وَيَهُوياداعَ. فَاسْتُخْدِمَ ذَلِكَ المالُ فِي عَمَلِ أغراضٍ وَأدَواتٍ لِبَيتِ اللهِ. فَاسْتُخْدِمَتْ تلكَ الأغراضُ وَالأدَواتُ فِي الخِدمَةِ فِي الهَيكَلِ وَفِي تَقدِيم الذَّبائِحِ الصّاعِدَةِ. وَصَنَعُوا طاساتٍ وَأدَواتٍ أُخْرَى مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالفِضَّةِ. وَكانَ الكَهَنَةُ يُقَدِّمُونَ الذَّبائِحَ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ طَوالَ حَياةِ يَهُوياداعَ.

15 B ut Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; one hundred thirty years old was he when he died.

وَشاخَ يَهُوياداعُ. وَماتَ بَعدَ أنْ شَبِعَ مِنَ الأيّامِ، إذْ بَلَغَ المِئَةِ وَالثَّلاثِينَ سَنَةً مِنَ العُمرِ.

16 T hey buried him in David’s city among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

وَدَفَنَ الشَّعبُ يَهُوياداعَ في مَدِينَةِ داوُدَ مَعَ المُلُوكِ. وَقَدْ دَفَنُوهُ هُناكَ إكراماً لَهُ، لِأنَّهُ فَعَلَ الكَثيرَ فِي حَياتهِ لِخَيرِ إسْرائِيلَ وَلِخَيرِ اللهِ وَبَيْتِهِ. يُوآشُ يَفعَلُ الشَّرّ

17 N ow after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them.

وَبَعدَ مَوتِ يَهُوياداعَ، جاءَ قادَةُ يَهُوذا وَانْحَنُوا احتِراماً لِلمَلِكِ يُوآشَ. فَاسْتَمَعَ المَلِكُ إلَى نَصِيحَةِ هَؤُلاءِ القادَةِ.

18 T hey abandoned the house of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and the idols; and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

فَتَرَكُوا بَيْتَ اللهِ ، إلَهِ آبائِهِمْ. وَراحُوا يَعبُدُونَ أعمِدَةَ عَشْتَرُوتَ وَأصناماً أُخْرَى. فَغَضِبَ اللهُ عَلَى أهلِ يَهُوذا وَالقُدسِ بِسَبَبِ الذَّنبِ العَظِيمِ الَّذِي ارْتَكَبَهُ المَلِكُ وَالقادَةُ.

19 Y et he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Yahweh; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

وَأرسَلَ أنبِياءً إلَى الشَّعبِ لِكَي يُعِيدَهُمْ إلَى اللهِ. وَقَدْ شَهِدَ الأنبِياءُ ضِدَّ أُولَئِكَ القادَةِ، فَلَمْ يُصغِ الشَّعبُ للأنبِياءِ.

20 T he Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you disobey Yahweh’s commandments, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you.’”

فَحَلَّ رُوحُ اللهِ عَلَى زَكَرِيّا بْنِ يَهُوياداعَ الكاهِنِ. فَوَقَفَ أمامَ الشَّعبِ وَقالَ: «هَذا هُوَ ما يَقُولُهُ اللهُ: ‹لِماذا تَتَجاهَلُونَ وَصايا اللهِ فَتَفْشَلُونَ؟ تَرَكْتُمْ اللهَ فَتَرَكَكُمْ!›»

21 T hey conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of Yahweh’s house.

لَكِنَّ الشَّعبُ تآمَرَ عَلَى زَكَرِيّا. وَبَأمْرٍ مِنَ المَلِكِ، رَجَمَ الشَّعبُ زَكَرِيّا بِالحِجارَةِ حَتَّى ماتَ فِي ساحَةِ بَيتِ اللهِ.

22 T hus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

وَلَمْ يَتَذَكَّرِ المَلِكُ يُوآشُ فَضلَ يَهُوياداعَ أبِي زَكَرِيّا عَلَيهِ. فَقَتَلَ زَكَرِيّا بْنَ يَهُوياداعَ. فَقالَ زَكَرِيّا وَهُوَ يَلفُظُ أنفاسَهُ الأخِيرَةَ ليُوآشَ: «تَيَقَّنْ مِنْ أنَّ اللهَ يَرَى ما تَفعَلُهُ وَأنَّهُ سَيُعاقِبُكَ!»

23 A t the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.

وَفِي نهايَةِ السَّنَةِ هَجَمَ الجَيشُ الأرامِيُّ عَلَى يُوآشَ. فَهاجَمُوا يَهُوذا وَالقُدسَ وَقَتَلُوا قادَةَ الشَّعبِ. وَنَهَبُوا كُلَّ كُنُوزِ المَلِكِ وَأخَذُوها إلَى مَلِكِ دِمَشقَ.

24 F or the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

لَمْ يَكُنِ الجَيْشُ الأرامِيُّ المُهاجمُ كَبِيراً، لَكِنَّ اللهَ نَصَرَهُ عَلَى جَيشِ يَهُوذا الكَبِيرِ. لِأنَّ شَعبَ يَهُوذا تَرَكُوا اللهَ ، إلَهَ آبائِهِمْ، فَعُوقِبَ يُوآشُ.

25 W hen they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in David’s city, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.

تَرَكَ الجَيشُ الأرامِيُّ يُوآشَ مُصاباً إصابَةً بَلِيغَةً. فَتَآمَرَ عَلَى يُوآشَ خُدّامُهُ أنفُسُهُمْ لِأنَّهُ قَتَلَ زَكَرِيّا بْنَ يَهُوياداعَ الكاهنِ. جاءُوا إلَيهِ فِي فِراشِهِ وَقَتَلُوهُ. وَبَعدَ أنْ ماتَ يُوآشُ، دَفَنَهُ الشَّعبُ فِي مَدِينَةِ داوُدَ. لَكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَدفِنُوهُ فِي القُبُور المَلَكِيَّةِ.

26 T hese are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

وَهَذانِ هُما الخادِمانِ الَّلذانِ تَآمَرا عَلَيهِ: زابادُ بْنُ شِمْعَةَ العَمُّونِيَّةِ، وَيَهُوزابادُ بْنُ شِمْرِيتَ المُوآبِيَّةِ.

27 N ow concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

أمّا قِصَصُ أبنائِه وَالنُبُوَّاتُ العَظيمَةُ ضِدَّهُ، وَبِناؤُهُ لِبِيتِ اللهِ، فَمَكتُوبَةٌ فِي كتاب تَفسيرِ المُلُوكِ. وَخَلَفَهُ ابنُهُ أمَصْيا عَلَى العَرْشِ.
