1 J ehoash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

وَتَوَلَّى يُوآشُ الحُكمَ فِي السَّنَةِ السّابِعَةِ مِنْ حُكمِ ياهُو لإسْرائِيلَ. وَحَكَمَ يُوآشُ أربَعِينَ سَنَةً فِي القُدْسِ. وَكانَ اسْمُ أُمِّهِ ظَبْيَةَ، وَهِيَ مِنْ بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ.

2 J ehoash did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

وَعَمِلَ يُوآشُ ما يُرْضِي اللهَ. وَأطاعَ اللهَ كُلَّ أيّامِ حَياتِهِ التي فِيها عَلَّمَهُ الكاهِنُ يَهُوياداعُ.

3 H owever the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

لَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَهدِمِ المُرتَفَعاتِ. فَكانَ هُناكَ مَنْ يُقَدِّمُونَ ذَبائِحَ وَيُحرِقُونَ بَخُوراً فِي تِلْكَ المُرتَفَعاتِ. يُوآشُ يَأْمُرُ بِإصلاحِ الهَيكَل

4 J ehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things that is brought into Yahweh’s house, in current money, the money of the people for whom each man is evaluated, and all the money that it comes into any man’s heart to bring into Yahweh’s house,

وَقالَ يُوآشُ لِلكَهَنَةِ: «يُوجَدُ الكَثِيرُ مِنَ المالِ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ. فَقَدْ قَدَّمَ النّاسُ أشْياءَ لِلهَيكَلِ وَدَفَعُوا ضَرِيبَةَ الهَيكَلِ عِندَما أُجْرِيَ الإحْصاءُ. وَهُناكَ مَنْ تَبَرَّعُوا ببَعْضِ المالِ طَوْعاً.

5 l et the priests take it to them, each man from his donor; and they shall repair the damage to the house, wherever any damage is found.”

فَلْيَأْخُذْ كُلُّ كاهِنٍ المالَ الَّذِي يَحصُلُ عَلَيهِ مِنَ النّاسِ الَّذِينَ يَخدِمُهُمْ، وَليُصلِحُوا بِهِ جَمِيعَ الأضْرارِ الَّتِي فِي الهَيكَلِ.»

6 B ut it was so, that in the twenty-third year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the damage to the house.

وَفِي السَّنَةِ الثّالِثَةِ وَالعَشْرِينَ مِنْ حُكْمِ المَلِكِ يُوآشَ، لَمْ يَكُنِ الكَهَنَةُ قَدْ أصلَحُوا الهَيكَلَ.

7 T hen king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, “Why don’t you repair the damage to the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for repair of the damage to the house.”

فَاسْتَدعَى المَلِكُ يُوآشُ الكاهِنَ يَهُوياداعَ وَالكَهَنَةَ الآخَرِينَ. وسألَهُمْ: «لِماذا لَمْ تُرَمِّمُوا الهَيكَلَ بَعْدُ؟ فَلا تَأْخُذُوا بَعْدُ مالاً لأنْفُسِكُمْ مِنَ النّاسِ، بَلْ قَدَّمُوا المالَ لِتَرْمِيِمِ الهَيكَلِ.»

8 T he priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, and not repair the damage to the house.

فَأقسَمَ الكَهَنَةُ بِأنْ لا يَأْخُذُوا مالاً مِنَ النّاسِ، إلّا لِتَرْمِيْمِ الهَيكَلِ.

9 B ut Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into Yahweh’s house; and the priests who kept the threshold put all the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house into it.

وَأخَذَ الكاهِنُ يَهُوياداعُ صُنْدُوقاً وَثَقَبَهُ مِنْ أعلاهُ، ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُ عَلَى الجانِبِ الجَنُوبِيِّ مِنَ المَذبَحِ عِندَ البابِ الَّذِي يَدخُلُ مِنْهُ النّاسُ إلَى بَيتِ اللهِ. وَكانَ بَعضُ الكَهَنَةِ يَحرُسُونَ مَدخَلَ الهَيكَلِ، وَيَأْخُذُونَ المالَ المُقَدَّمَ إلَى اللهِ وَيَضَعُونَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ الصُّنْدُوقِ.

10 W hen they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put it in bags and counted the money that was found in Yahweh’s house.

وَكُلَّما رَأى كاتِبُ المَلِكِ وَرَئِيسُ الكَهَنَةِ أنَّ الصُّنْدُوقَ امْتَلأَ بِالمالِ، كانا يَأْتِيانِ وَيَأْخُذانِ المالَ مِنْهُ. وَكانا يَعُدّانِ المالَ الَّذِي فِي بَيتِ اللهِ ، وَيَضَعانَهُ فِي أكياسٍ.

11 T hey gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders, who worked on Yahweh’s house,

ثُمَّ يَدفَعانِ أجرَ المُشرِفِينَ عَلَى العَمَلِ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ ، وَيَدفعانِ أجرَ النَّجّارِينَ وَالبَنّائِينَ العامِلِينَ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ.

12 a nd to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the damage to Yahweh’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

وَدَفَعُوا أيضاً لِلحَجّارِينَ وَنَحّاتِي الحِجارَةِ. وَاشْتَرُوا أيضاً أخشاباً وَحِجارَةً مَنحُوتَةً وَكُلَّ ما يَلزَمُ لإصلاحِ بَيتِ اللهِ.

13 B ut there were not made for Yahweh’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into Yahweh’s house;

إلّا أنَّ المالَ الدّاخِلَ لِبَيتِ اللهِ لَمْ يَكُنْ كافِياً لِصُنْعِ طُسُوسٍ فِضِّيَّةٍ أوْ مِقَصّاتٍ أوْ أحواضٍ أوْ أبواقٍ أوْ أيَّةَ أوانٍ ذَهَبِيَّةٍ وَفِضِّيَّةٍ.

14 f or they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired Yahweh’s house with it.

بَلْ ذَهَبَ المالُ كُلُّهُ لِدَفْعِ أُجُورِ العُمّالِ العامِلِينَ فِي بَيتِ اللهِ.

15 M oreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.

وَلَمْ يَعُدَّ أحَدٌ المالَ أوْ يُحاسِبِ الَّذِينَ يُسَلِّمُونَ المالَ لِلعُمّالِ. فَقَدْ كانَ الجَمِيعُ مَوْضِعَ ثِقَةٍ.

16 T he money for the trespass offerings, and the money for the sin offerings was not brought into Yahweh’s house. It was the priests’.

أمّا المالُ الَّذِي يأتِي مِنْ ذَبائِحِ الذَّنْبِ وَذَبائِحِ الخَطِيَّةِ. فَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَذهَبُ إلَى بَيتِ اللهِ ، بَلْ كانَ مِنْ نَصِيبِ الكَهَنَةِ. يُوآشُ يُنقِذُ القُدْسَ مِنْ حَزائيل

17 T hen Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

وَشَنَّ حَزائِيلُ هُجُوماً عَلَى مَدِينَةِ جَتَّ، وَاسْتَولَى عَلَيها. وَكانَ يَنوِي أيضاً أنْ يُهاجِمَ القُدْسَ.

18 J ehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and of the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria; and he went away from Jerusalem.

فَدَفَعَ يُوآشُ مالاً لِحَزائِيلَ مَلِكِ أرامَ مُقابِلَ رُجُوعِهِ عَنْ الهُجُومِ عَلَى القُدْسِ. فَأرْسَلَ إلَيهِ كُلَّ ما خَصَّصَهُ مُلُوكُ يَهُوذا، يَهُوشافاطُ وَيَهُورامُ وَأخَزْيا، لِبَيتِ اللهِ. كَما أرسَلَ إلَيهِ كُلَّ الذَّهَبِ الَّذِيِ فِي بَيتِ المَلِكِ نَفسِهِ. فَعَدَلَ حَزائِيلُ مَلِكُ أرامَ عَنْ مُهاجَمَةِ القُدْسِ. مَوتُ يُوآش

19 N ow the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

أمّا بَقِيَّةُ أعْمالِ يُوآشَ، فَهِيَ مُدَوَّنَةٌ فِي كِتابِ تارِيخِ مُلُوكِ يَهُوذا.

20 H is servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and struck Joash at the house of Millo, on the way that goes down to Silla.

وَتَآمَرَ قادَةُ يُوآشَ عَلَيهِ، وَقَتَلُوهُ فِي بَيْتِ مِلُّو عَلَى الطَّرِيْقِ النّازِلَةِ إلَى سَلَّى.

21 F or Jozacar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in David’s city; and Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

فَقَدْ قَتَلَهُ اثْنانِ مِنْ قادَتِهِ هُما: يُوزابادُ بْنُ شِمْعَةَ وَيَهُوزابادُ بْنُ شُومِيرَ. ثُمَّ دُفِنَ مَعَ آبائِهِ فِي مَدِينَةِ داوُدَ. وَخَلَفَهُ ابْنُهُ أمَصْيا مَلِكاً.
