1 You are the sons of the Lord your God. Do not cut yourselves or cut the hair from your foreheads because of the dead.

You are the children of Yahweh your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

2 F or you are a holy nation to the Lord your God. The Lord has chosen you to be His own nation out of all the nations on the earth.

For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

3 Do not eat any hated thing.

You shall not eat any abominable thing.

Every animal that parts the hoof, and has the hoof cloven in two and chews the cud, among the animals, that may you eat.

7 B ut you must not eat of those that chew their food again or have a divided foot: the camel, the rabbit and the rock badger. For though they eat their food again, they do not have a divided foot. They are unclean to you.

Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof cloven: the camel, the hare, and the rabbit. Because they chew the cud but don’t part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

8 A nd do not eat the pig, because it has a divided foot but does not chew its food again. It is unclean for you. Do not eat any of their flesh or touch their dead bodies.

The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses.

9 Of all that are in the water, you may eat anything that has fins and scales.

These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales may you eat.

10 B ut do not eat anything that does not have fins and scales. It is unclean for you.

You shall not eat whatever doesn’t have fins and scales. It is unclean to you.

11 You may eat any clean bird.

Of all clean birds you may eat.

12 B ut these are the ones you may not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,

But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey,

13 t he red kite, the falcon, every kind of kite,

the red kite, the falcon, the kite after its kind,

14 e very kind of raven,

every raven after its kind,

15 t he ostrich, the owl, the sea gull, every kind of hawk,

the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, the hawk after its kind,

16 t he little owl, the great owl, the white owl,

the little owl, the great owl, the horned owl,

17 t he pelican, the vulture that eats dead flesh, the cormorant,

All winged creeping things are unclean to you. They shall not be eaten.

20 B ut you may eat any clean bird.

Of all clean birds you may eat.

21 Do not eat anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the stranger in your town, so he may eat it. Or you may sell it to a person from another land. For you are a holy nation to the Lord your God. “Do not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk. The Law of the Tenth Part

You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

22 Be sure to give a tenth part to the Lord of all you plant that comes from your field every year.

You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed, that which comes out of the field year by year.

23 B efore the Lord your God, at the place He chooses to put His name, you may eat the tenth part of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the first-born of your cattle and your flock. Then you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

You shall eat before Yahweh your God, in the place which he chooses, to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock; that you may learn to fear Yahweh your God always.

24 I f the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far away for you to bring the tenth part of all the good things you have received,

If the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place is too far from you, which Yahweh your God shall choose, to set his name there, when Yahweh your God shall bless you;

25 y ou should trade it for money. Then tie the money in your hand and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose.

26 Y ou may spend the money for whatever your heart may desire, for bulls, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever you desire. And there you and those of your house may eat before the Lord and be full of joy.

You shall trade the money for whatever your soul desires, for cattle, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

27 D o not stop caring for the Levite who is in your town for he has no share of what is given to you.

You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

28 At the end of every third year you should bring the tenth part of that year’s grain into your towns.

At the end of every three years you shall bring all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall store it within your gates.

29 A nd the Levite who has no share of what is given to you, and the stranger, and the child without parents, and the woman whose husband has died, who are in your towns, may come and eat and be filled. Then the Lord your God will bring good to you in all the work done by your hands.

The Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
