1 S o the names of all Israel were written down by families. See, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And Judah was carried away to Babylon because they were not faithful. Those Who Returned to Their Land

So all Israel were listed by genealogies; and behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their disobedience.

2 T he first ones to live again in their land and in their cities were Israel, the religious leaders, the Levites and the servants of the Lord’s house.

Now the first inhabitants who lived in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

3 S ome of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem.

In Jerusalem lived of the children of Judah, of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh:

4 T hey were Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, from the sons of Perez the son of Judah.

Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah.

5 F rom the Shilonites were Asaiah the first-born and his sons.

Of the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.

6 F rom the sons of Zerah were Jeuel and their brothers, 690 of them.

Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their brothers, six hundred ninety.

7 F rom the sons of Benjamin were Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah.

Of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah,

8 A nd there were Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah.

and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;

9 A nd there were their brothers by their families, 956 of them. All these were heads of fathers’ houses by their fathers’ houses. The Religious Leaders for Jerusalem

and their brothers, according to their generations, nine hundred fifty-six. All these men were heads of fathers’ households by their fathers’ houses.

10 F rom the religious leaders were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin.

11 A nd there was Azariah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub. He was the head leader of the house of God.

12 A nd there was Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah. There was Maasai the son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.

13 A nd there were 1, 760 of their brothers, who were heads of their fathers’ houses. They were very able men for the work of the house of God. The Levites in Jerusalem

and their brothers, heads of their fathers’ houses, one thousand seven hundred sixty; very able men for the work of the service of God’s house.

14 F rom the Levites were Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari.

Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

15 T here were Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph.

16 T here was Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun. And there was Berechiah the son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the towns of the Netophathites. The Gate-Keepers in Jerusalem

17 T he gate-keepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their brothers. (Shallum was the leader

18 w ho was at the king’s gate on the east side.) These were the gate-keepers for the family group of the Levites.

who previously served in the king’s gate eastward. They were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi.

19 S hallum the son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers of his father’s house, were the Korahites. They led the work, and they watched the doors of the meeting tent. Their fathers had taken care of the tents of the Lord, and had watched the doors.

Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brothers, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent. Their fathers had been over the camp of Yahweh, keepers of the entry.

20 P hinehas the son of Eleazar had ruled over them before. And the Lord was with him.

Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and Yahweh was with him.

21 Z echariah the son of Meshelemiah watched the gate of the meeting tent.

Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the Tent of Meeting.

22 T here were 212 of those who were chosen to watch the gates. Their names were written down by families in their towns. David and Samuel the man of God chose them for places of trust.

All these who were chosen to be porters in the thresholds were two hundred twelve. These were listed by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer ordained in their office of trust.

23 S o they and their sons were gate-keepers of the Lord’s house, the holy tent.

So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of Yahweh’s house, even the house of the tent, by wards.

24 T he gate-keepers were on the four sides, to the east, west, north and south.

On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.

25 T hose of their family in other towns were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them.

Their brothers, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them:

26 F or the four head men who were gate-keepers were Levites and were in a place of trust. They watched over the rooms and the riches in the house of God.

for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the rooms and over the treasuries in God’s house.

27 T hey stayed during the night around the house of God. For their duty was to watch. And they were to open the house every morning. The Other Levites

They stayed around God’s house, because that duty was on them; and to their duty was its opening morning by morning.

28 S ome of them took care of the things used for worship. They numbered them when they were brought in and taken out.

Certain of them were in charge of the vessels of service; for these were brought in by count, and these were taken out by count.

29 S ome of them were chosen to take care of the objects of the holy place, the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the special perfume, and the spices.

Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, over the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.

30 A nd some of the sons of the religious leaders did the work of mixing the spices.

Some of the sons of the priests prepared the mixing of the spices.

31 M attithiah was one of the Levites, the first-born of Shallum the Korahite. He took care of the making of bread.

Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans.

32 A nd some of their brothers of the Kohathites took care of the making of the holy bread every Day of Rest.

Some of their brothers, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the show bread, to prepare it every Sabbath.

33 T hese are the singers. They were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lived in the rooms of the Lord’s house. They were free from other kinds of worship, for they were on duty day and night.

These are the singers, heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, who lived in the rooms and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night.

34 T hese were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites by their families. They were leaders who lived in Jerusalem. The Family of King Saul

These were heads of fathers’ households of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men. These lived at Jerusalem.

35 G ibeon’s father Jeiel lived in Gibeon. The name of Jeiel’s wife was Maacah.

Jeiel the father of Gibeon, whose wife’s name was Maacah, lived in Gibeon with

36 H is sons were Abdon the first-born, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,

38 M ikloth was the father of Shimeam. They lived with their brothers in Jerusalem beside their other brothers.

39 N er was the father of Kish. Kish was the father of Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab and Eshbaal.

40 T he son of Jonathan was Merib-baal. Merib-baal was the father of Micah.

The son of Jonathan was Merib Baal. Merib Baal became the father of Micah.

41 T he sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea and Ahaz.

The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

42 A haz was the father of Jarah. Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza.

Ahaz became the father of Jarah. Jarah became the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri became the father of Moza.

43 M oza was the father of Binea and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

Moza became the father of Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

44 A zel had six sons whose names were Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
