1 P raise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God. For it is pleasing and praise is right.

Praise Yah, for it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.

2 T he Lord builds up Jerusalem. He gathers those of Israel who had been taken away.

Yahweh builds up Jerusalem. He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

3 H e heals those who have a broken heart. He heals their sorrows.

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

4 H e knows the number of the stars. He gives names to all of them.

He counts the number of the stars. He calls them all by their names.

5 G reat is our Lord, and great in power. His understanding has no end.

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

6 T he Lord lifts up those who are suffering, and He brings the sinful down to the ground.

Yahweh upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground.

7 S ing to the Lord with thanks. Sing praises to our God on the harp.

Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving. Sing praises on the harp to our God,

8 H e covers the heavens with clouds. He gives rain for the earth. He makes grass grow on the mountains.

who covers the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass grow on the mountains.

9 H e gives food to the animals, and to the young ravens that cry.

He provides food for the livestock, and for the young ravens when they call.

10 H is joy is not in the strength of a horse. He does not find joy in the legs of a man.

He doesn’t delight in the strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 B ut the Lord favors those who fear Him and those who wait for His loving-kindness.

Yahweh takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness.

12 P raise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!

Praise Yahweh, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion!

13 F or He has made your gates strong. He has made good come to your children within you.

For he has strengthened the bars of your gates. He has blessed your children within you.

14 H e makes peace within your walls. He fills you with the best grain.

He makes peace in your borders. He fills you with the finest of the wheat.

15 H e sends His Word to the earth. And His Word runs fast.

He sends out his commandment to the earth. His word runs very swiftly.

16 H e gives snow like wool. He spreads ice like ashes.

He gives snow like wool, and scatters frost like ashes.

17 H e throws down His ice as hail stones. Who can stand before His cold?

He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can stand before his cold?

18 H e sends out His Word and melts them. He makes His wind blow and the waters flow.

He sends out his word, and melts them. He causes his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

19 H e speaks His Word to Jacob, and His Law to Israel.

He shows his word to Jacob; his statutes and his ordinances to Israel.

20 H e has not done this with any other nation. They do not know His Law. Praise the Lord!

He has not done this for just any nation. They don’t know his ordinances. Praise Yah!
