1 W hen men became many in number on the earth, and daughters were born to them,
When men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and daughters were born to them,
2 t he sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful. And they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
God’s sons saw that men’s daughters were beautiful, and they took any that they wanted for themselves as wives.
3 T hen the Lord said, “My Spirit will not stay in man forever, for he is flesh. But yet he will live for 120 years.”
Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; so his days will be one hundred twenty years.”
4 V ery large men were on the earth in those days, and later also, when the sons of God lived with the daughters of men, who gave birth to their children. These were the powerful men of long ago, men of much strength.
The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God’s sons came in to men’s daughters and had children with them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 T hen the Lord saw that man was very sinful on the earth. Every plan and thought of the heart of man was sinful always.
Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil.
6 T he Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth. He had sorrow in His heart.
Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.
7 S o the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have made from the land, man and animals, things that move upon the earth and birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.”
Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them.”
8 B ut Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
But Noah found favor in Yahweh’s eyes.
9 T his is the story of Noah and his family. Noah was right with God. He was without blame in his time. Noah walked with God.
This is the history of the generations of Noah: Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.
10 A nd Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 N ow the earth was sinful in the eyes of God. The earth was filled with people hurting each other.
The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12 G od looked at the earth and saw how sinful it was. For all who lived on the earth had become sinful in their ways.
God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13 T hen God said to Noah, “I have decided to make an end to all the people on the earth. They are the cause of very much trouble. See, I will destroy them as I destroy the earth.
God said to Noah, “I will bring an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them and the earth.
14 M ake a large boat of gopher wood for yourself. Build rooms in the boat. And cover it inside and out with tar.
Make a ship of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ship, and shall seal it inside and outside with pitch.
15 T his is how you are to make it: The boat is to be as long as 150 long steps, as wide as twenty-five long steps, and eight times taller than a man.
This is how you shall make it. The length of the ship shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
16 M ake a window for the boat, that goes down a cubit from the roof. Put a door in the side of the boat. And make it with first, second, and third floors.
You shall make a roof in the ship, and you shall finish it to a cubit upward. You shall set the door of the ship in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels.
17 S ee, I will bring a flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh under heaven that has the breath of life. Everything on earth will be destroyed.
I, even I, do bring the flood of waters on this earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is in the earth will die.
18 B ut I will make My agreement with you. You will go into the large boat, you and your sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
19 Y ou are to bring into the large boat two of every kind of living thing of all flesh, to keep them alive with you. They will be male and female.
Of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
20 T wo of all the kinds of birds, and animals, and every thing that moves on the ground are to be with you to keep them alive.
Of the birds after their kind, of the livestock after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort will come to you, to keep them alive.
21 A nd take with you every kind of food that is eaten, and store it. It will be food for you and for them.”
Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be for food for you, and for them.”
22 N oah did just what God told him to do.
Thus Noah did. He did all that God commanded him.
